So in those thirty years how many to limes have you had to pick up and run?
Many....... Thailand has only ever been another port to me....... Eggs and baskets come to mind..... Because at the end of the day, you're just another foreigner......... Don't forget it.......

That's definitely where I get my financial advice...from old dudes nursing drinks in bars on Sukhumvit. The heck with certified financial planners, stock brokers, accountants, and lawyers.
Ha ha....... and how many of the individuals you've mentioned have totally been wrong and ran off with the loot....... Brokers.....? I'll start with Nick Leeson...... Financial specialist...... Hey sometimes good advice comes cheap....... You'll learn.......

So much wisdom from most of these posts...Ha Ha! Clearly you have more data than the DDC.
Not one solution mentioned...I wonder why?
How about you complain about Brazil, India, Europe , UK, USA....such an effective job they did....should keep you busy moaning for years.
Well, if we're to believe that the vaccine is the cure for all, then the UK must be right up top with one of the most vaccinated populations in the world .......... How's Thailand stand in that department...... ?

Very strange they don't blame the Burmese or other foreigners any longer, this must be a first for Thailand.
Maybe that's because there's none left or if there is they're hiding ....... Mmmm, who do we blame next ?

All getting a bit predictable now....... What next, bunkers at every street corner and if anything moves, two in the chest and one in the head ?
I've been flying quite a lot internationally this year and i can tell you that you can't get onto an aircraft without a test sheet, which makes perfect sense, but of course there'll always be the "What if" brigade that are so scared that they would have every man and his dog cling filmed under his bed for the next ten years, ...... Just in case......... Absolute madness...... If governments don't start getting their act together soon and restoring normality to the people, then the people will start removing governments...... It's all getting a bit us and them at the moment and haul up the ladder Jack......I'm alright.........

Yeah well its not just about dying is it? Everybody who gets it spreads it to other people who can potentially die. When someone dies in an accident thats the end of it. When you get the virus, no matter how serious, you just keep passing it on. Until everybody is vaccinated their as to be restrictions. This ongoing analogy with accidents is stupid.
You mean just like a cold or flu ? Infected and deaths are starkly different......

To be frankly honest, i don't know of anybody who has died from C19. I've been traveling all over the world for the last ten months from Europe to SE Asia and i'm currently in Turkey......... As i say, i know of no one who has died of C19....... I met six blokes on a ship that tested positive for it, none of them even had a cold....... And that is Gods honest truth........ Being a realist, life brings death, and along that way there will be many instances that you may lose your life, but as far as i can see i've been in more danger crossing Sukhumvit on a Friday night three sheets to the wind.......... Just my opinion and observations.......

I'll repeat it again....... I was given some advice nearly thirty years ago now by an old soak in a bar on Sukhumvit. The old fellah leaned over in his drunken haze and said, " Listen sunny, don't have anything in Thailand that you can't pick up and run with, because one day you'll have to".........
Wise words.......... Goal posts and widening come to mind......

It's sad but it seems as though those in power are hell bent on turning Thailand into a second Cambodia, and if you just look at the videos on Youtube how that's all panned out, then the future of Thailand is not one that i will be a part of.....
I've had quite a few months away now to re-assess my reasons for living in Thailand and i must admit the powers that be are going to have to make it a lot easier to enter Thailand and spend my money there, and not just throw a few crumbs and think that people are going to flock back.......
We've all realized that the change of management has not been beneficial for the tourist industry in Thailand, and it's become sorely apparent regardless of all the nationalistic isolationism that Thailand cannot live without tourists......... It's become a very miserable place in my opinion and if the plans for a mass Chinese influx take place, then Thailand's done....... Cambodia 2........

So as the number of infected people grow the greater chance of dying if your in a vulnerable group. The virus also tends to cause a cluster in a particular area so causing bed shortages for other illness in local hospitals. Road accidents tend to be spread out more nationally .
Yeah right, 1300 caught cold but how many of those 1300 died ? Considering the normal death toll from Monday to Thursday on the roads at 60 per day, and that's only those that die at the scene, don't you think that 97 over sixteen months for something that's causing so much fear is somewhat hysterically irrational ? Imagine if this virus was something in the league of Ebola, then there would be good reason for all this fear and scaremongering........ Utter madness.....

I think its great news if it happens, should generate some good income.
Try having a moan at that!
Confusious say........ Show wealth and success in Thailand as a foreigner and your days are numbered..... Why do you think the old Chinese shop keepers used to dress in the same shirt and trousers for years, finish work, go out the back and get into the Merc and go home ....... Never show success or wealth in Thailand, it'll go quick...... Too many people in Thailand are applying western logic to a situation where it's alien....... East is east......... Environment....... Not allowing foreigners ownership, especially of land, is a source of national pride.
Lyrics to the Thai National Anthem (note the second line):
Thailand unites the flesh and blood of Thais.
The land of Thailand belongs to the Thais.
Long has been our independence,
Because Thais have been united forever.
The Thais are peaceful and loving, but are not cowards in war.
Our sovereignty will never be threatened,
We will sacrifice every drop of our blood for our nation.
We are ready to die for freedom, security, and prosperity!Wow, what can you say ? I can now see why history is not a strong point in Thai schools.....

"Come into the parlour said the spider to the fly, prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy".......... Strange isn't it that the policies over the last few years have been to drive foreigners out of the country, and all of a sudden they've just realized that it's foreigners that's propping the place up.......... I'd like to say it was short sightedness, but i'm afraid it's something else......... genetic..... It would be a good idea if the powers that be stopped pretending they're running an army camp and realize that everyone's not a squaddie and shouldn't be treated as such, then maybe the normal people and beauty of Thailand will attract the masses of tourists back that it used to thrive on........ I'm happy to see it happening all over the world now that militarys are not flavour of the month anymore and never should be in charge........ I think any rational soul looking at the lunatics murdering the Burmese at the moment should give a lot of thought to empowering armed gangsters in uniform....... Open the doors boys and let's get back to normal, everyone's praying for it.........

The trouble is that when covid finally recedes I think it will be years before people have the money to visit Thailand. I dont think that the economic problems caused by covid have fully played out yet.
I was one of the lucky ones that came to Thailand thirty years ago, it was a dream just to walk over a border without any hassle from Immigration. The whole country was full of tourists and back packers who of course were all spending money in varying amounts.
People tend to forget that Thailand used to be a very basic country back then, and those back packers and travelers back then opened the place up to mass tourism, which in the end improved the country three fold.
They have to drop all the pie in the sky dreams and get back to that very quickly before Thailand turns into a Burma situation........ Something which sadly is not that far off the books........ Historically Thailand's due a major bust up shortly.......... Usually every five years........ well overdue.....
Open the place up now and it will be saved.......... Don't, and it will turn into mayhem.........

Tell you what, this one's for free........ Wind the clock back six years, dump all the immigration garbage that's made coming to Thailand a nightmare, and just welcome people across the borders as it was for the last thirty years that i've been crossing them. Then you'll have such an influx of people with money to spend that the individuals in gov/Imm won't have to come up with get rich quick schemes everyday that have as much chance of working as opening a bacon sandwich stall outside a mosque........
My suggestion to Imm/Gov/Plod, is to go back to quietly creaming off a living from bars and houses of pleasure as they did for years........ Remember what used to feed you boys.. ? Go back to it and leave foreigners alone.......... Goose= Golden eggs....... Worked for years and built the country.......
-
Hilarious....... A bigger death toll than Thailands losses in both world wars just on the roads in a couple of days and the whole country's shut down and wallowing towards the rocks for 80 odd C19 deaths over a year.......
Is it only me, because i can smell a big smelly rat......... ( Rodent that is )

The more people call this the UK variant, the more I will start calling it the Chinese Flu virus or Asian flu virus.
The stupidity of some people who believe because it was first identified in the UK believe it originated in the UK, it didn't. It all originated in China. Mare and more virologists are coming forward now and saying that lax protocols at the Wuhan virus centre, which they say, they have been warned about for years, is the probable epicenter of the start of the virus.
We don't see the Thais walking around calling it the Chinese Flu, no that would upset the leaders of this called democratically elected government.
Where did the UK variant enter the UK? Well, we can make an educated guess!
The UK has had thousands of trucks coming with produce daily and only recently has it been brought into question about testing the drivers from Continental Europe. We have those undocumented migrants full of all kinds of diseases smuggled through in those lorries, we have all those found to be Covid positive boat migrants landing daily.
How the variant first discovered in the UK got into Thailand is anybody's guess but of course, it won't be through the porous borders of Myanmar and Laos or Cambodia nor the immigration officers taking back handers as the hordes stream in.
No let's blame the UK, which suits a backward uneducated public and government, who believe anything they see on TV in the middle of the soaps and cartoons, all nicely wrapped up in their xenophobic, jingoistic blanket.
Couldn't of said it better myself....... Certain people in Thailand don't need an excuse to blame westerners for their troubles and basic inadequacy....... It came from China, amazingly it's lasted longer than a week before falling to bits......... UK variant of the Chinese virus........ That's my description of it........

this is a rubbish time to travel, why even bother?
especially over the songrakn period it will just be loads of loud locals getting drunk with their families till 4am.
I'd rather stay at home.
I never normally stay in Thailand over Songkran, usually i would go down to Penang then come back after the carnage is over...... But as of late you can't just cross over borders in Thailand that easily, even before C19 turned up it was a nationalistic gestapo grilling nightmare.....

Is anybody surprised by this latest move....... ? Face and pride mixed in with an obsession for wealth will produce many ways to skin the cat..... Get ready cat........

In my years in SE Asia i've met some very interesting old soaks in bars all over the place. I was once sat next to a bloke in a bar that was hanging onto it like a raft in the ocean, when he came round and we exchanged pleasantries it turned out that this individual was the pilot that flew the last dudes off the CIA building in Saigon in 75........ There was a reporter at the end of the bar that just laughed and said, do you know who that is ? Yes i do....... Just another man with a story...... How's your story ?
