Surprised in a large international airport to never see any armed police patrolling to counter terrorism. See one occasionally whizzing somewhere on a Segway, but nothing similar to the armed patrols in Europe or the US.

Police may have slightly better training than a 300 baht/day security guard, although violence seems the first tactic for both security and police here.

And Chinese. Dont forget Tiananmen square.

    Hi everybody,

i have a question about rabbies.

Can somebody tell me if you can get a vaccin in Thailand for rabbies? Can you get it in the drug store or need to go to the hospital too?

I can get it in my country but that will cost me around 8000 bht. My friend want it too but with 4 peoples in his family it will get expensive.

    Thanks for the info.

Yes you can get it here. Many pharmacy and clinics offer the service as do hospitals. It might take two shots a month apart.  However, even if you have the shots and you get bitten you still need to get treament. The shots do not give you full immunity just an extra 24 hours to get treatment. AFAIK.

Well, i meant that is what your government likes to do. Go into other countries and enforce your perception of how people should live, your language, laws and religion, while exploiting them for financial gain. The Russians also have been guilty of this over the years.

My home country was overran by the English, with a high percentage of them being criminals, who laid down their law, only giving the locals the right to vote in the 1960,s.

They probably dragged your contry kicking and screaming into modernity, gave it an infrastructure,  gave it a common language, gave it a voting sytem then left it better than it was.  Since their departure your country has probably gone into decline whilst its people are fighting to get into the UK.

And let's not forget that dating sites can be very dangerous, from the text and the photos it's impossible to judge whether the photos are genuine and if the intent is genuine, or if there is any criminal / poor behavior or drugs past record, or any penchant towards dishonesty or violence etc.

Many folks in many countries can share stories of family or friends, work colleagues etc., being fooled, theft of funds and property, attempted rape/rape, etc. And it works in both directions, beware.

I agree. Its much safer to trawl bars in red light areas!

me thinks that is the farang expat / old fart perception

It is correct. The insight is based on knowledge and experience of Thai Culture. Furthermore Thai girls rarely get involved with Farangs unless they are bar girls etc. Many younger, naive farang have the false perception that their free sex Thai lover is the equivalent of a farang girl but this is not the case. They are likely to be bar girl or whore type. Or congenitaly promiscuous. Or slightly unhinged leading to trouble.

used to read occasionally until he started condoning and promoting the sex industry full time. i'm sure there's an audience for this lowest common denominator content but not being a sex-pat or sex tourist or remotely interested in the bar scene there's nothing there for me.

it is a pity because there is so much more to thailand than the sex industry and the sad folks partaking.

Yes there is plenty more to Thailand..and it is covered in regular guide books. Adult night life is not sufficiently covered.  Stickman originally filled the vacum left by Bernard Trink 'The Nite Owl' in The Bangkok World , a column that specifically dealt with night life and girls.

    i never bothered with stickman,

but there was a talented writer who started a site called "mangosauce",

    frickin awesome

Stick went off the boil decades ago. The best site was The Big Mango linked to a bar of the same name. Sadly no more but exists as Mango Unchained.

But thats coming from someone with a view that some being are inferior to others? and should be exterminated, yet i am the one who needs help?

Someone who claims animals do not communicate only shows your total ignorance yet i am the one who needs help?

Once again, will take it as a compliment

They communicate in set ways that are prescribed, limited and repetitive. They do not communicate abstract concepts such as art, cultre, altruism  or justice. They do not plan for a long term future as their life cycle like their thoughts and communicative abilities are limited to set patterns. They are animals not human beings. Your ultra extreme, radical view is a twisted mixture of sentiment and extreme politics.  Its not just dogs that are 'barking' in your condo.

If that is where your moral compass is, a good-for-nothing wife who cheats would be a good match.

There is no moral virtue in being abused. Better for his kids that he is an absent father who they never knew than for them to wittness the abuse and exploitation of this pitiful guy.  It takes a special kind of moral courage to do the right thing.

Curious to hear from the OP.

Sure sounds to me like he's asking about setting up a small business.    " small repair workshop on our farm"

I hope he's able to accomplish it and become an asset for the community where he chooses to live.

Asset to the community? People set up a business to make money.

  11. Do not take the kids! Not only is it kidnapping and thus illegal..they are of no value. Just mere sentimental attachments.  Your weakness.  Your Achilles heel. Forget about them. You can always make more. Think like a Jamaican ..or an African American...The kids will be alright...Look after yourself

Thanks for an honest and good reply, appreciated.
Just been reading lots of comments now, and I appreciate all of them. Since I am apparently in love with her it is difficult to see it from another perspective.

Love. A combination of societal construct, dependence  and chemicals. SHE is not in love with you.  You are therefore a victim. How old are you? 17? Love at a 10000 baht a month! You have no friends to talk to? I feel you are wasting your time here looking for love.  There is no such thing. What we get here is better. May I ask: how did you end up here?

On a holiday for two weeks in Vietnam, I was impressed by how business-like the Vietnamese are. The travel agent that organized the holiday for us from Hanoi was brilliant. The contradiction for me was most apparent in the differences in police and army presence. In Vietnam, supposedly a Communist dictatorship, the police and army were nearly invisible. In Thailand, supposedly a democracy, the police and army - well, say no more.

Thailand is not a democracy but I know what you mean. I was in Saigon..no police presence..people hanging out, smoking dope, taking NO2, music , food, freedom...like Thailand used to be but Hanoi was wrapped up tight...all bars closed by 11pm..

Beach Road just gets worse and worse all the time. I wouldn't rent a chair from those soi dogs. They litter, smoke, and when they do clean their area, rake trash into the gulf. Awful, awful people. Just look at them.

I dont have a problem with them. Most people dont.  Its their country not yours. They are working hard to make a living.  Without them and the hawkers and vendors it would just be another boring beach.

For all we know you might not be here legally either....:o

You will never know more about her unless you talk to her.

Burmese, Bagladeshi, Bahraini, British ... who cares ?

It's 2007 and worse thing can happen than dating her, assuming that happens.

Why are you bothering to date a girl in Thailand? Is it just for cheap Charlie sex? Burmese girls whether muslim or Buddhist are notoriously puritanical and conservative. She's here to work and probably has known a life of terrible suffering and the last thing she needs is foolish westerners like you bothering her. This is Thailand. You pay for female company unless marriage is your intention.

I don't really think you are using the correct term when you say "lack of insight". Personally I am fully aware of what the inside of a shopping mall is like, I find one to be pretty much the same as another, and regardless of what you say, what tour operators do, and what other people think, I still hate the places and avoid them like the plague. Nothing to do with insight, that is my opinion. If you like it feel free to go, But I do not like it and will not be going without good reason.

Yes as you suggest when in Thailand I do not reside in the city, I am on the dark side around 10km inland, and on the occasions we go to eat out, a shopping mall food court would not enter our thoughts. Then as for Mc Donalds and the like I would not eat there if it were free, and that is said without qualification and without ever having tried their food.

    My view entirely. Well said.
