  1. Welcome to the land of smiles. send your sons and daughters on vacations to beautiful Thailand and get murdered. I believe I read it right, a foreigner dies somewhere in Thailand every day.

Nice place to come on vacation.

Don't come then, as for a foreigner dying in Thailand everyday then no doubt it's a fact if you are talking about natural death or accidents and a blatantly false fact if you are talking about victims of crime.

Advising people not to go is helpful ..good.

However, pretending there is no problem is foolish.

    It ain't old folks dying

Only a twit or some junta groupie would buy that, or worse try and pedal it as truth.

It's largely about misadventure avoidable accidents ( on the Thais part too) and poor regulations etc.

Murder is a fraction of it.

But Thailand is high in the world wide listings of tourists deaths for good reason.

Ie it's a third world country and is dangerous in many respects

The illusion it isn't flies against stats

  2. However, drunken attacks and muggings are not the only concerns in Thailand. Lack of security, oversight and safety measures have resulted in multiple tragic deaths.

While some might argue that accidents happen everywhere, it seems there are multiple stories about muggings, attacks, murders, and tragic, avoidable accidents coming out of the country each week.

But the reality is Thailand is loosing tourists .

A sensible course of action is needed not the same old it ""ain't happening lame stuff""

  3. I believe the authorities will do their best to track down and arrest someone over this .

What's chilling is this that more Brits died there last year than there are days in a year .( more than 365)

And you have a one in 2400 chance of death there.

Death not injury or theft or assault and robbery , rape and /or poisoning ...But curtains .

People forget that's just one nationality and indeed many visitors to this third world country meet grizzly deaths .

Many are thought or at least to be said ""suicide ""

The attacks seldom make press .

The hospitalisation of thousands never known.

Sure many are self inflicted and caused by carelessness.

Motorbikes and excessive drinking , fights etc.

    But many are not.

Potholes , electrical wiring , theft and robbery, serious assault , sub standard maritime laws, poor driving on roads , and really third world standards and investigation .

I know police will catch and prosecute someone perhaps not the real killer.

And tourism resume with assurances to the westerners it seeks to boast coffers.

However , it's very very clear Thailand is not Kansas and coming to grief here is really not an uncommon occurrence .

Just hopefully it's not death, like the poor girl experiencing rape then her own demise.

Good luck with Tourism in the future .....

"What's chilling is this that more Brits died there last year than there are days in a year .( more than 365)"

What must be even more chilling to you is the fact that alot more brits than that died in Britain last year. 643,500, or 1763 per day!!!

This is very poor logic ....

Britain has millions upon millions of British so the death rate there reflects this

    68 odd million or more

Then the death rate is many times higher.

But what you did point out by your maths is its less likely to die there than Thailand

    http://www.livingthai.org/thailand-now-rated-2nd-most-likely-country-for-tourists-to-die.html

I hope you understand one in 2400 of Brits don't make it home from Thailand .

    This is significant .

And for Australians and Americans the place represents a spike in death rates .

Three years ago Thailand was rated second most dangerous in world .( for holidaying)

    Nothing much has changed

Considering how many retirees are here,i guess some would die of natural causes.

    Yes , true.

However, what's being said is the tourists. Visiting who die ( including those retired there) only20% of deaths are explained away as natural causes.

Eg stroke , heart attack , etc

What's not being said is its all to do with murder .

    It's not.

Many die from food poisoning , accidents and drownings and pre existing conditions prior to arrival.

But again many die of things that are not accidents that were understandable .

Crime is common place more so .

    But death unusual.

But for this girl it was very real.

Why this case will attract media world wide is the setting.

""Death in Paradise "" the romantic setting ..and youth and environment .

Sadly, a pair of young lovers brutally killed and presumed the woman raped ...will injure Thailand greatly.

Thousands of young woman and lovers in travel shops and online bookings will skip the word Thailand and replace it with another country like Vietnam ....just because of this.

  5. 389 dead Brits in 12 months is quite a lot btw. How many deads from oher nationalities? Perhaps TAT could publish the expected fall of numbers of murdered tourists along side with their optimistic expected rise of numbers of tourists.

Sounds high until you consider the number of elderly retired here. A breakdown would be a lot more meaningful than citing a total and then noting that it 'includes natural causes'.Makes it sound like a natural death is the exception...

    .

Unfortunately , it is high .

On average natural causes only account for around 20% of deaths , and some of those in Thailand are dubious at best ..."" He had bad heart ..take pill "" etc

Really Thailand recorded more deaths than other countries visited by tourists .

Australians just for instance recorded in 2012/13 most deaths in Thailand .

Other nationalities have similar findings .

So even taking off a full 20% for natural deaths ( which as mentioned attracts doubts to causes)

A figure of 389 still had over 300 to account for .

It's preferred we sweep this under the table but that's just British nationals .

Add another hundred nationalities to the mix we have a very dark picture.

Clearly , Thailand is popular which to some extent explains why more people might die there .

But preventable deaths is another issue

  7. As a marine person , I don't have issues with this.

    The more regulation the better.

If they can make basic fundamental outlawing of operators ,who ply their trade largely illegally fleecing westerners with deception and criminal activity eg uninsured Jet ski hire etc ...this law would seem to be more in line with reality.

Thailand is not so safe anymore ...this law is in my view a smart move.

And I am a critic of Junta where they seem unjust.

  8. Comedy right?

    Plotting against coup?

More feeble minded westerners in agreement?

Strangely , it's insidious and audacious to witness westerners , even Americans side with the ironically called democrats and/ or the righteous Junta one dare not disagree with.

All the hall marks of feeble elitist rhetoric are their along with trademark twists to truths.

It's rather disgusting to see these people delude not just themselves but try pathetically to deceive others

Reforms ( read rigging elections so no reds run)

    Fair and balanced Thailand?

    Returning happiness ?

    Tourists rejoicing ?

Anti corruption ? ....like I said comedy

  9. Sydney for example is very expensive .

Consider say a Friday and Saturday outing to watch sport eat a meal and take a taxi a few kilometres home.

Or attending a dinner engagement or movie ?

Cost of food , transport .

    Hobby .

    Retirement is not cheap .

Thailand is a few things .

But one thing is sure .

It's very much cheaper than Sydney or for that Matter Australia in general.

I believe the cost of living were you to strip away at things in say Pattaya , is a fraction of the cost.

A condo at say 8-10 thousand baht .

    Food and clothing 6 thousand

And social interaction and even more 10 thousand

It translates into less than a thousand dollars a month.

Though I would recommend $1500 a month at least for a comfortable existence.

Point is what would be a struggle in Australia to make ends meet for elderly people , suddenly becomes an easy alternative that includes social contact .

For that reason only Thailand has to be seen in a better light to those with limited means

  12. Perhaps tourists are scared of the recent implementation of draconian laws and ever changing rules and regulations. Tourists from so called 'free' countries don't like being told when to be in bed (curfew), having to carry their passports with them at all times, report to immigration everytime they change accomodation and being subject to random piss testing be it walking down the street at night or laying on the beach during the day.

I think the above is perhaps very true, when considering reasons.

However the simple fact the military took over scared of people also.

The recent appointment of the latest PM just reaffirms many fears.

Press in many countries does not exactly encourage people to travel there.

I recently even heard a travel agent point out to potential Asia holiday makers the cold facts.

    They opted for Bali instead.

I personally would not be bothered by rules and restrictions and/or a Junta running things.

They might even do some good in the short term with attacking organised crime.

But it's not really practical to expect tourist to be in favour of a country ruled by the gun.

  13. I think Barbaric medieval murderous lunatics like these only understand one action against them.

Overwhelming decisive air power that obliterates them.

I think the time has come to use Bunker bombs and massive carpet bombings day and night , drones to the hilt and send in hell fire helicopters as a side liner to mop up those hanging around.

If needs be kill the lot .

  14. Times are changing , clearly many people feel sex work isn't a wrong doing , or buying sex is bad.

However societies still determine laws and/ or norms and religious doctrine often govern the over all perception .

Pattaya has many thousands of people engaged in this activity daily.

We're that activity restricted or outlawed , the social desires to improve perceived moral righteousness might be achieved.

But what of the economic need of the girl?

    Would theft increase ?

    Suicide ?

Drug use ? ( related to depression)

Economic freedom to a minimum level might be preferred to no self determination.?

Many hookers lack skills and education .

Again whilst western men of low morals find themselves happy to pay for sex , who are we to judge them if the worker willingly wishes to advance her lot in life.

There are favourable outcomes in this trade.

Many woman end up with a bank roll enough to start a small business or partner who buys a home for example.

Some woman and men experience less happy outcomes.

    But it's an adult trade.

And I suppose the bottom line is the Thais need to weigh up their social values in a way of their choosing.

Just as not all men who visit Thailand seek out sex , not all Thai girls want to open their life up to overseas visitors in that respect.

I think the sex tourists themselves might do some good.

But it's a fine line here.

And ultimately the final say might need to come from the people.

    And their representatives .

  15. The concept of ""Eradicating sin"" is interesting .

It sounds very noble and ambitious , depending on what Sin is defined as I suppose ?

Certainly , shutting down the sinful practices of paying for sex and watching young woman strip ( might reasonably be assumed ) as aspects of this target.

    But is it?

Lets consider Pattaya .....the place is largely structured on girls who do this .

Not just Ladyboys and street walkers .

The Go Go bars and bars have woman who are happy to sin for reward.

Are these places not considered sinful ?

And if they are will they be targets too?

If not is the statement just an exercise of something other than ""eradication""

And what will happen to the shops and businesses and food outlets , bars and restaurants , and all associated with the flesh trade?

Will the city be able to withstand the changes?

Many people seem to enjoy sinning .

Will stopping them help Thailand or Pattaya in general?

And the families who get sent money upcountry will they be as easily appeased come election time?

Obviously the notion to do good is in itself a well meaning one.

But ramifications may not have been completely for seen ?

Pattaya isn't a very nice sea side place on its own.

But add a spicy night life it's a very competitive place.

I have an idea that sinning is the primary reason the economy there exists .

But take away the red light establishments and close bars that have girls doing tricks and really it will be a very big call.

Massive loss of tourists and economy.

I think it will be very brave to continue the ""eradication "" program indeed.

    Time will tell.

Sadly, the greatest sin might be inflicting poverty on already struggling woman ....and their families who gain from their sinful ways.
