I don’t think DHL is the problem here. I’ve used both DHL and FedEx over the past several months. DHL customs in three days. FedEx shipmenttook seven, yes.... seven weeks to clear customs. All for a tube of ointment that was included in the shipment (from USA) that was ultimately deemed to be medicine and forbidden from entering. The bulk of that time was spent waiting for the actual inspection of goods by the food and drug division.
Pre-covid I shipped these types of items regularly with no problem clearing customs......done in a day. I think the volume is now so low that the inspectors have more time to gin up the customs fees to keep their agency afloat.

I think your friend is mixing up requirements.
Since you obtained it in Bangkok I expect you have an Extension based on retirement.
The insurance requirement is only based on a Non-Imm-OA original entry into the country and retirement extensions thereof. (As you say) The requirement came into effect around October 2019. If it was not required for your Extension just 6 months ago, no reason to suspect it will be required in 6 months time, and likely it is based on a Non-Imm-O not O-A.
The insurance requirement is actually 400,000 baht outpatient/ 40,000 baht in-patient, and does not tie into the 100,000 baht you mention.
You may have your limits reversed in your reply. I believe it’s 40,000 outpatient and 400,000 inpatient.

Consider going into the bank and trying a withdrawal over the counter with a teller.

Has you actual KWh usage increased a lot.....or has just the Baht amount increased? The jump may be due to the discontinued deep discounts they were giving. Also, look back on your bills to the same month last year and compare usage by looking at the Kwh usage....not the baht cost. If the kWh usage has increased dramatically, go to PEA asap and have your wife do the talking. Maybe you’re meter got fried a bit or has otherwise gone haywire. It happens!

Would someone be kind enough to advise me how to block members? I’m tired of the whining and complaining, bickering and fighting perpetuated by some.

I opened a Capital One Bank checking and savings account online from my home here in Thailand. I obtained a Capital One debit card, too. Regarding the mailing of the debit card....it had to be sent to my address in the USA from where someone forwarded it to me here.

While considering relocation keep this in mind: if your clothes sizes are anything above “average” in America you may have difficulty finding your size here. Examples include size 13 shoes or larger, xl size shirts, over 38 inch waist slacks and shorts, anything “tall”. Bring extras with you if you’re in these categories!
on another note, if this is going to be a “permanent” move, consider keeping a mailing address in the states and also....keep your bank account open there!

I’ve had a FedEx pkg stuck in customs now for a month. Working with FedEx to file all necessary forms and pay FedEx for this Extra service And the pkg is still in customs. They tell me maybe one more week before the food and drug authority removes the one item amongst many in the pkg that is medicine. All other items are ok to import including correspondence. So, lesson learned. Don’t try to import medicine via FedEx...or dhl for that matter. Live and learn.

After spending millions on my home here I’m not about to (voluntarily) leave the country then stand on my head and jump through hoops while coughing up more dough to sit in a dump hotel with crappy food for two weeks in order to get back home. I’ll stay right where I am...for now!

One does not need a copy of a lease to do a 90 day report.
you would like to report to Thai Immigration via registered mail, you will need to send the following required documents:
Copy of all passport pages (up to the latest arrival stamp in the Kingdom or latest visa stamp)
Copy of arrival/departure card TM. 6 (front and back)
Previous notifications of staying over 90 days (if any)
Completely filled in and signed notification form TM. 47
Envelope with 5 Baht stamp affixed and return address of foreigner for the officer in charge to send back the lower part of form TM. 47 after having received the notification. This part must be kept for reference and for future notifications of staying over 90 days.
You must then send these documents to this address, keeping in mind that they should arrive 7 days before your 90-day period expires:
90 DAYS REGISTRATION,
IMMIGRATION DIVISION 1
Government Complex Building B
120 MOO 3, CHAENGWATTANA ROAD,SOI 7,
LAKSI, BANGKOK. 10210Please note that you have to keep the receipt of the registration for verification purposes when sending registered mail.
If you would like to do the 90-day reporting online, please check this link:
https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do?cmd=acceptTermif CW is not your attendant IO office, search for the mailing address for 90 day reports in your jurisdiction.

Reporting now about my visit to Chiang Mai DLT office yesterday, July 15, to renew my five year car driving license.
I have a non-IMM 0-A Visa and extension of stay valid thru October.
I had a Thai friend call ahead and ask what was needed. I was asked to bring the following:
My actual passport
An actual, not photocopied, residence certificate recently issued from our “friendly” IO in Chiang Mai.
My actual license (which expired at the end of June)Photocopy of my license front and back
The following photocopies of my passport info:
Front Info page of passport
Original VisaMost recent extension of stay (That showed October expiry)
Latest entry stamp.
All photocopy pages signed in blue ink.
They had no interest in and didn’t ask me for a health certificate.
I brought all to the new building ( directions to which are provided in an earlier post in this thread). The signage, which is hard to mess, directs one to the DRIVERS LICENSE QUEUE NUMBER area.
I entered the little building, presented all of my photocopies, my passport and my license. The very pleasant woman took everything, checked them over, and scanned my actual passport to find the latest extension stamp and entry stamp. She put all the photocopies in the order she wanted, stapled them together with a blank DLT form on top where I need to add my name and phone number. She filled out an appointment/queue slip and stapled it to the front of the stapled stack of papers, and told me to come back on a specific date in mid August to view a one hour video.
She asked me to wear long pants and reminded me not to be late!
I then signed my name on a log sheet that she retained and she smiled and handed back to me all of the docs with the appointment slip attached, told me to bring everything them all with me on the appointed day and hour, and sent me on my way!
All in all, a rather pleasant experience.
Her comment about wearing long pants also reminded me about the need to dress appropriately when visiting a government office!
Easy breezy.-

I hope they hurry up and legalize same sex marriage. Will save a lot of grief for many expats at the local IO, e.g.; insurance, funds in the bank, etc.

Hi all,
Has anyone renewed their 5 yr driving license in Chiang Mai in the past few weeks? I heard that the DLT is open and issuing licenses again. If you've been to do it, please let me know if they req'd a "Health Certificate" for the renewal of the 5 yr. license and also how the process worked when you went in.
TIA!

Is this a frequent occurrence? One might be thankful the neighbor Is careful about maintaining their property. One might consider this a better result than living next to a rundown house. If no damage is done one should chill. One might offer them a cold drink the next time they appear. That would be more in line with “Thainess.”

If you’re in Chiang Mai and can use the drive-thru, do it now! I did mine there last week and it took 1min and 30 seconds!
Early Withdrawal of Funds seasoned in Thai Bank for Retirement Non O-A Visa Extension
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

"The best laid plans of mice and men..." One might consider, if at ALL feasible, leaving the 800K for three months after your extension and then reducing to 400K in the account. (UbonJoe describes the requirements above)
If your plans do NOT change and you do indeed leave early, go ahead and take your money out of the account once that final decision is made and before you leave.. If you follow the prescribed timetable for funds deposited in your account, and for some unforeseen reason your plans change and you decide to stay here, you'll be well positioned to adjust your deposit amount within the subsequent timeframe as required and re-apply for your next extension. Just a thought from someone who likes to prepare for contingencies. Best wishes.
