Just pulling at straws... maybe, but I'll give it a try anyhow. I had an appointment at the hospital this morning and as things work out, a nice young lady stopped by hoping to see my Pranee and myself. Spoke with the next door security guard, said she hadn't been here for a long time and wanted to check in with us. Said her name was Gayle, maybe Gail. For the life of me, I can't recall any Gayle from past years, and that bugs me to no end. I would ask (as she mentioned Thai Visa) Gayle if you should read this, please give us another try. Put an old mans mind to rest. please.
In times like the present, every customer is very important, but moreso my mind is working overtime trying to put a face to your name. Thanks for stopping by and I'll try and do better.
Please stop back and all the best,
John & Pranee

My best wishes to you Gonzo.
You joined this forum a little before me, so I have seen most of your posts.
I am sad if your business closes, but I am happy if your health sustains.
Thank you for the kind thoughts

Glad to hear you are back and well. Still haven't eaten the chicken fried steak. Do I need an appointment?
Oh my goodness ..... No the Pun Pun is a real down to earth home type place to eat. Appointments are not necessary. But having said that and an earlier comment about about closing for Dr and Hosp appointments, which are 2 -3 times a week. it may not be a bad idea to give me a call if you would like to come by, and not be put off because it happened to be a go to Dr. time .
08 0491 8484. Thanks for that good thought . Hopefully the hosp/Dr/ visits won't be be so often in the near future.

Just by way of update....... after totaling a few days less than 3 months in the hospital, I am back in operation and the Pun Pun has reopened (with the exception of periodic visits to the Dr. at the hospital)
Again I would like to offer a great big thank you to all of you that took the time to stop by , phone, or just contacting to see how things were going. THANK YOU.
Now I would like to take a moment to invite all friends out there to stop by and give us all the opportunity of catching up on all the recent BS. I didn't realixe how much I missed that part of guests who would better be called friends, visiting. Gang should you get the chance please stop by and maybe we can catch up on all the gossip while maybe chomping on one of Pranee's special chicken wings . Stop by when you get the chance..... Seriously gang......I really do miss you all as well as those yaking sessions. Many thanks again.

I am in Chiang Mai. I use a Omron Blood Pressure machine daily. A problem has come up with the machine, It appears to be a problem with where the plug is inserted not some internal problem. Do we have any members using such a product here in CM and happen to know where locally it can be repaired?
Thanks

My little furry 4 legged security system and office buddy seems to have picked up some annoying fleas. I have tried two different Flea and Tick Sprays to no avail. If you have your own Furry Buddy and are able to give a favorable recommendation for such a really working flea and tick spray, please give me a name. Thank You.

Was surprised to be offered a flu shot at Lanna Hosp yesterday. I do go to Lanna on a pretty regular basis. After seeing my appointed doctor, the nurse took me to the side and gave me the shot. Bigger surprise..... it was FREE ! ! ! So the biggest surprise..... no pain.

Hi to all TV'ers.
I would like to take a few minutes to offer my sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of you that have called, emailed or stopped by to offer your concern re my absence and the fact that The Pun Pun has been closed for a while now.
I just recently returned from about a 6 week hospital stay for some health issues that I have been experiencing over the past couple months. To all of you who did take the time to reach out I do sincerely, sincerely thank you from the deepest part of my heart. I do want you to know that I consider you not just customers and guests, but more strongly, special, very special friends, You did and do make this old heart feel a huge bunch warmer with your concern and kindness.
I have missed you and the times and talks we have now had for going on 25 years at the Pun Pun. I would like to say that given a little more time we should have the Pun Pun up and running again and do look forward to again seeing each and every one of you for the chit-chats again.
While the gate may be partially closed, please if you are in the neighborhood, please do stop in so we can get caught up on all the latest gossip and happenings. I do look forward to seeing and talking with each of you soon.
Thank you, thank you for making this old man have a very warm spot in his chest. Thank you, Gonzo

I've read news articles about the hotel license being enforced, but a law fim should probably be able to do that job for you. I can see on Google-search that some Thai lawyers offers that service.
The Covid-19 crisis have hit many hard, but it could (just) be a case of surviving till beginning of next year, then things might begin slowly to normalize. Meanwhile it could be the right time to get legally organized and ready for a come back...????With regard to the above.... thats partially correct. Its like a car and a truck. they will both transport you from one place to another, but the rules to put each on the road are vastly different.
Other than that, I have read all thru the responses and posts, and do greatly appreciate all those who took the time to offer their thoughts and opinions. Thank You

Ditched the dictionary a long time ago, but I still occasionally browse my very tatty, very old copy of Roget's Thesaurus. I find it very relaxing (and it smells like a book. I miss that. Love the kindle but I miss the smell).
Maybe some time soon someone will invent something called "Smellory" . You put it onto your computer and a blank screen comes up. You push go and a smell comes out, then you have maybe a minute ( time will be adjustable to allow for older slower memories) to come up with the answer to what the smell is. ...... got to go now, as I am working on something I think I will call Smellory

Seems I am finding myself in a position I have never been in or felt before.. I can frankly say its a position I don't feel good about.
I have had The Pun Pun Guesthouse and Restaurant now for close to 25 years, Longer now than any other place I have ever lived in my entire life. Its home for me in my heart. But for the past couple years, with government input and now the virus difficulties, its not fun any longer. Guesthouses in Chiang Mai have been renting rooms to tourists and trekkers for how many years 75?, 100?, but then the government says guesthouses can no longer do nightly rentals, and stopped me from doing so. ..... Then you cannot sell beer and alcohol any longer.... Then the virus thing puts like the icing on the cake. Being unable to have a beer or glass of wine with ones meal also hurts the food business. We used to have a number of church groups come by for breakfast and have a spot for their weekly discussions and meetings. Most of those guys have gone home and have not been replaced, due to the virus and lockdown conditions. Virus conditions have also impacted visits from loyal local customers, some of whom have been coming for weekly or monthly meals for over 20 years now. Looking back thru past years records yesterday, I see that there were bygone days wherin we had daily sales greater than some monthly sales now, I had hopes that this place was where I would finally give up being a workaholic. It appears as that may be fate speaking, but for the wrong reason.. Now daily, I think, is it time to pull the plug and stop spending my wife's inheritance. Literally my heart is heavy with just thinking about what to do. I know a lot of places have closed down. The Bangkok Post had an article talking about 30% of tourist related business' have shut down operations. In my heart , I don't want to close and I will find it very difficult to overcome the heaviness inside from not seeing my years long term customers who are not only customers but more importantly, my dear friends now.
If you have read this far, I thank you for reading the ramblings of an old man. THANK YOU! The times have changed, the city has changed but to me, Pun Pun is still my home.
The question must be decided by me..... To pull the plug or not to pull the plug, that is the question.....It may be inevitable, and I hope some of my friends do come by even if only to say good-bye.- 25

Had a very similar experience last week.... Visa renewal and 90 day report. Knew there was an amnesty til the 31st. Didn't want to wait til the last minute to avoid the then I'm sure huge crowd.
When I got there expecting maybe the Immigration Office closed or maybe one or two people there, was shocked to see a couple hundred people all over under and around the office.
Got inside, got a number, and not 30 minutes later was with an officer who did the visa work, and 90 day report all at one sitting. Hour to hour and a half and out the door. Great job immigration staff ! ! !

Using these websites I see that in Feb 2000 (if that is the year in question) a liter of gasoline in Thailand costs about $0.39 USD....and with the USD-THB exchange during that period ($1 USD = 37.65 THB) so a liter would be around 14.68 THB.....
What prize do I win?

I know all too well people who are often lonely and depressed will posts something just because they have too much free time on their hands. Perhaps someone should check on the OP to make sure he is alright.

First of all let me say that it has been said that I am a hoarder and saver. Having said that, I will tell you that we all should straighten out and organize a bit our possessions and personal treasurers as the time gets closer to each of us going to meet the saints. Which is exactly what I have been doing the last day or two. Now this brings me to ask this most earth shaking question. In cleaning my not too often cleaned off desk ( i don't like handling my treasures too often) I really found some things I haven't seen or even thought of for years, thus I must ask a question that memory seems to have left me. I came across a somewhat older receipt. It was for a gasoline purchase some years ago. Can someone tell me with any certainty if a litre of gasoline sold for 14.52 baht in the month of February 2043? If someone can truthfully answer that , i promise to quickly alert the gang on any other ancient treasures I may find on my desk.

Interesting question was asked the other day in a phone conversation with a party in the USA. Has the suicide rate gone up in Chiang Mai. I had no idea for an answer, but given some of the dire circumstances with the variables and with the virus situation, has anyone seen or heard anything like a report on this?

I have three little "poms", one may be over weight, but they stay only in the house. On two occasions one of the dogs picked up ticks which most times were from the doggie salon. Bravecto, expensive, but very effective and the treatment is long term against ticks and fleas.
The Bravecto products manufacturer sez its safe, but there is a lot of reporting of it causing death to the animals.

My 4 legged baby apparently brought home some fleas/tics and I don't want them to spread all over the place.

Historical Question ..... I have now lived in Thailand for around 30 years. Before finding myself here, I had a home in Florida, USA, for years. Back then, back there, it being tropical like here, you would have your home bug sprayed every so often . Back then we also had the ability to buy what we, on the street, called a "Bug Bomb". This was a little can/canister that enabled you to close off a room or rooms and put this canister in and set it off. It was an aerosol canister that would spew out a fog that would kill all bugs and insects. You left the room closed for a couple hours then came back and opened it up and aired it out for a bit. But all bugs and insects were gone. Does anyone know where here locally a "Bug Bomb" or something similar can be purchased?? I have looked with no success. Any serious reply will be appreciated.

Thanks for all the replies gang. I have taken care of the problem and have turned off all electric. Have installed a gizmo running off 4- AAAA batteries that is a concentrated amplified solar regenerator. ... and it works great, all for 4 little batteries.
Thanks again gang.
Thank You to All My Friends

Thanks again to all who took the time to read and respond. I would like to respond here in explanation to queries I get about have we closed, as friends would drive by and see our gate closed at hours that we are usually open. As I mentioned earlier, we are open with the exception to the times when I have to go to the doctor or hospital. Unfortunately that has come about quite a few times recently. As example this week I have gone to the hospital 3 times with the shortest time being closed about 2 hour and yesterday being about 8.5 hours. Again unfortunately tomorrow I need to go hospital for what looks to be 2 weeks. I would again ask my customers and guests better known by Pranee and myself as our friends, to please bear with us. Each and every one of you is important and special to us and we hope to continue providing better service in the very near future, with better open hours. It may be good in the near future, if you would like to stop by, why not just give us a call. It may save a unwanted trip. Again thank you to all our friends. THANK YOU.
John & Pranee
