Where they belong or not is none of your business. Our emergency lanes are meant only for emergencies for example, but that is not the way things work here. Operative word being "here"... you're not back in Kansas yet Todo. Law enforcement takes care of this kind of thing the way they see fit.

People seriously need to learn just because you are inconvenienced does not make you right (not to mention it biases you). This is not your country. So TM30 complaints or motorbikes, complain all you want, but you do not get to say how anything goes, or certainly where anything belongs.

Wrong is wrong and has <deleted> to do w/where anyone here comes from.  But hey it's OK, go ahead and ride there.  My wife loves taking pix of ya'll and getting the reward after you pay your fine. ????

I run a small solar powered fan on the back of my freezer which has the exposed cooling tubes.

Have never been to the trouble of trying to measure effect but I like to believe it must help.

Not so easy to achieve with my refrigerator which has hot spots in the walls and the top and back.

That's a cool (no pun intended) idea.  Do those fans need light to run or do they store enough to run for hours?

If it is in an enclosure you might consider un-enclosing it.  My "old" fridge would get really warm and I found pulling it away from the wall a bit seemed to help although I doubt it did much for saving energy.  FYI:  my "new" (almost 4 years) "inverter" fridge never gets warm on the sides.  The box on the top gets a little bit warm but not much more than tepid water.

One of ours is somewhat built into the cabinetry so pulling it out from the wall isn't an option.  The top is open so nothing enclosing it there, just on the sides.

The rest, 2 fridges, a freezer, and a wine cooler are freestanding.

  4. Given the amount of heat coming off fridges and freezers, I wondered if using a small external fan blowing on the outside of fridges and freezers would aid in the efficiency of said units?  This is assuming all the units' own fans and coils are clean.

Seems to me that the heat is somewhat trapped behind the units unless they are freestanding and even if freestanding, would this aid in the units' efficiency?

  5. Your best bet is to find a good film scanner.  Prints can be scanned on most any flatbed.  Be prepared to organize and spend a lot of time on this project as good scanners are slow and then cleaning up the scans, color balancing etc all take time.  Creating a way to organize these will be another project best done as you go, and I'd suggest googling that to see what would work best for you.  FYI, Digital Ice and other scanning softwares made for cleaning up images don't work on B&W films.  Also they are not perfect even for color.

The APC that is a similar price also has AVR

so is there a benefit other than the SW?

Frankly didn't know there was any software Mac or otherwise needed for any UPS.  You may be absolutely right about the redundancy but as a non-electrical person, I usually go by the advice of a  group's "expert" till I learn or know otherwise.  This is what I have done with the original quote.  Beyond that it would be up to your own research and experts.

  7. Personally, I will have my UPS (when I get one) plugged into my surge protector.  I've heard of them getting fried without here.  The AVR feature seems to be something that would help extend the life of what's plugged into it to keep the voltage steady.  Battery backup is to give enough time to save and shutdown or if away, possibly give enough time for the power to come back up.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯   Had my power go off enough times during projects that I should have gotten one long ago.

  8. Here is a snip from a forum post for Mac RE: UPS.  I have been saving this for this eventual purchase that I have put off for too long. It seems to be good advice and mentions needed components.

"I don't recommend APC brand UPS's. I used to recommend them exclusively (they are sort of like the General Motors of the UPS world), but then they started to leave out the all-important AVR feature from all of their consumer class UPS's. You need AVR. They also become over-priced compared to the competition.

I highly recommend CyberPower UPS's, but only those with AVR.

Here is the CyberPower model selection tool:
    <http://cyberpower.advizia.com/CyberPower/?v41=CyberPower_UPS>

This one should be sufficient for any Macintosh you might have:

    CyberPower 1000AVR ($105)
    <http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP1000AVRLCD-9-Outlet-Intelligent-1000VA/dp/B000QZ3UG0>
    or
    http://is.gd/iaxI4
(Note that this UPS's battery is user replaceable. A big plus.)

You only need to plug things into your UPS that you need to have time to save your work and properly shut down in the advent of a brownout or a blackout. That means your computer, monitor, any external hard drives, and that's about it. *NEVER* attach a printer or scanner to a UPS, that will usually be far too much of a draw. Any other peripherals can be attached to a surge-only outlet on your UPS, or to a separate surge suppressor.

Make sure that you get a UPS with AVR (automatic voltage regulation). Cheap and poorly made UPS' don't have this feature, and trust me, you really want it."

    Form immigration website. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/sv_90day

    1. Photocopy of passport pages with following pages
      - front page showing name / surname / Passport No., ect.
      - current visa
      - last entry stamp of immigration
      - last extension of visa
    2. Photocopy of departure card TM.6

That's interesting @ubonjoe.  A year or 2-3 or 4 ago I remember a star member like yourself saying they had to give them copies of every page even if it was blank because that was how that member's loco immigration office operated.  Back then CW never asked me for that so I only sent in my stamped pages and all was well.

Perhaps they are getting buried under all the paper of their own silly requirements?  ?

Anyway, here's hoping that the web check-in works in 90 days lol. ?  I gave up on their site, my first time as well, this cycle as I'd rather have the semi-security of having mailed it in on time rather than doing battle and failing with their web submission form.

  10. I had been told to get with it and do the online method, it can be done on iphone, etc,  but Friday's experience is what I had in some ways expected.  Not working on comp or iPad.

I'll try again in 90 days as my form needed to be mailed Friday and there was no more to time to muck about with a non-working site.

I know someone who actually, somehow, enjoys making the trip to CW to do his 90 day.  I need to get out more too, but not there!  ?

Make sure when using Safari to enable the IE tool (under I think Tools-->Develop Agent) and do that before filling the form.

that said, still nto working for me.

Question:  arrival 18 March, assuming day of arrival is included then 90th day and date report due is 15 June. If depart the country on 15 June (90th day) is there then no report needed? I would think no since it is a report for staying over 90 days, but want to be sure. Thanks.

OK I will try that again....in 90 days lol.  Just got back from PK PO so this report is done and dusted.  That is assuming they can mail it back in the provided envelope lol.  ?  I do see the User Agent choices which include IE in the develop pull down.

That said, I do hope today is just an off day, or couple of days.  I've kinda put off doing this online thing as via mail hasn't been too much of a problem until they closed my local PO.

  12. Same here ?  My gd post office is now closed so I have to take motocy to the nearest one instead of walking.

So I thought, after seeing my closed PO, 'hey today is a good day to try that online reporting that some people have said they have completed on their iphone!'  I tried with latest Firefox and now with ipad w/safari.  Both failed. Now I have to go to another PO.  No time to waste waiting for technology from 10 yrs ago to catch up.

I'm in BKK also w/CW as the office I would report to.

Very interesting report!!....didn't have to look far for evidence!!!  At top of article, has ad for Visa service, offering Retirement Visa " No funds needed. No Visa No fee".  Hmmm,  maybe Thai Visa should review some it's advertisers!!

Immigration works hand in hand with these companies.  I’ve been told 10k would get my extension of stay paperwork pushed thru that day by an IM officer. I declined as I’d rather have my 10k. Spend 20k on a lawyer and yes you can have your retirement etc taken care of.  Its part of the system and it works for those who can afford the yearly expense.  I for one support having options.

  14. Sent in my 90 report nonsense on March 19 by EMS and it was received at Laksi on 21st, and yet still haven't gotten my stupid 90 Day receipt yet.
Any hints on where I can call to chase it down?   Or do I just need to go to CW and do it in person?

Hoping for an expert opinion. ;)

I returned to TH on Jan 2 so at this point these <deleted> are putting me at risk.

The cost for a single reentry permit is 1000 baht.

Turn up with a completed form with your pic and give it to the girls (who are not immigration officers) at that counter and you will only be charged 1000 baht.

You are being charged 200 baht to be provided with the form and take a picture.

That is exactly correct.  BYO form and fotos and you pay the same as at immigration office.  It IS one more thing to worry about/remember to do before your trip so if you forget, it only costs you 200 extra.
