  1. I'm contemplating a move to Thailand. I've been there on holiday four times over the last 16 months, including a two-month one last winter.

Since I don't have the financial freedom to just live the good life in Thailand without working, finding a job should be my first priority.

I am 35 y.o., not a native English speaker, though my command of the language is quite good and studied maths in college. I finished with a BSc degree in the subject. Though I don't have teaching experience in front of a class, I've been a private tutor for years.

How are my chances on the Thai job market, where in the country should I think about looking and how to approach this undertaking?

  2. I finally took a tuktuk. It was waiting near the bus terminal. Upon his asking where I went, I said "sanambin" and "neung rawy baht". He immediately agreed. After arriving at UTH I realised that this should never cost one more than 100฿.

Maybe the last poster is right in stating that you always overpay in tuktuks, esp. as farang, but there was really no way I was going there cheaper. And I did try in the aforementioned hotels, most of which charge you around 200฿ for their 'service'. Even for their guests.

By the way, it was my first tuktuk ride ever and I'm still behind my standpoint of avoiding them in general.

  3. I stay very close to Udon Bus Terminal 1. Tomorrow I have to catch a plane to DMK. Departure time is 11:35 AM.

Any way to get to the airport by not taking a taxi or tuktuk? I don't feel like paying 200 baht for such a short ride. It seems there's no direct bus or songthaew service from the bus terminal though.

  4. I am looking for the artist and title of a certain song. It is played in Thai discos and bars a lot. I don't know its lyrics because it's in Spanish but the chorus sounds like "loca loca loca loca loca loca looooca".

  5. Is there an overnight bus from Phuket to Hat Yai?

My flight from Hat Yai to Udon departs at 1300 hours on Monday so I want to save some hotel money by spending the night before in a bus.

I am in Patong and I know that Phuket has two bus terminals. Bus terminal 2 should be the one for me. What do you recommend?

  6. In less than three weeks time I will visit the deep south region. At Hat Yai Airport I plan on renting a car and driving to Pattani where my girlfriend lives. Like last time I want to stay at the best hotel in the deep south, the CS Pattani.

I am however a bit concerned about the security situation in the region.

Last time, two months ago, I only stayed in Mueang Pattani for four days, where I arrived and left by shared mini-van. My GF drove me around town on her motosai. This time, since I should have private transportation, I plan on exploring the province of Pattani plus its neigbouring provinces on my own, when the GF is working. Looking for nice scenery, beaches, mosques etc. I will probably stay at the hotel for a week.

As I understand, some districts (in Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala) are safer than others. Since the safety seems to vary even on a village level, with villages being colour-coded as red, yellow or green, I was wondering how to acquire detailed information on these designations.

Is there a map available somewhere where I can find these colour codings? During my trips through the area I wouldn't want to accidentally enter a "red" village that is a hotbed of insurgents.

  7. Just bumped into this thread. I actually have a GF from (Mueang) Pattani. I visited her four days in August and will visit her again less than three weeks from now. I'll probably rent a car in Hat Yai for a week and stay at the CS Pattani Hotel for the whole period, using my car to explore the province as there is NO car or motor bike rental in Pattani and the local buses suck, though being very cheap.

My GF is NOT a punk or social reject, unless you consider an elementary school teacher in the deep south to be the latter.wink.png She has got no kids either and is very modest and shy. I, however, have no intention of making a living in Thailand, let alone in Pattani. (with 100K baht? LOL) or two weeks holiday is fine, but then it's highway time. Thank God she intends on moving to Bangkok next year.

  8. If you show up at immigration at 23:50 you will have one day overstay and will not be fined.

Excellent! So an overstay it will be. No needing to worry about visa extensions or visa runs. I don't think I'm gonna cross a border anyway. In my current planning I will be in Dannok for about a week, either late November or early December, but I will treat it as a destination in itself, basically just like last time. smile.png

  9. I am now thinking seriously about overstaying my visa. My homeward flight departs on the second day after my 60-day visa expires, but at 1.45 AM. What kind of fine can I expect at the airport? I've read that the first day of overstaying generally doesn't get charged and since my flight departs after less than 2 hours on the second day, is there a chance they'll me let go for free??

  10. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

I am confused, why not just go to immigration office and get a stamp. Ubonjoe is he thinking to much ?

Because I don't want to pay a &lt;deleted&gt;' 1900 baht for two days? I will be in the south of Thailand (travelling from Hat Yai to Narathiwat) anyway, with a probable overnight visit to Dannok or Sungai Kolok.

I wonder why you just do not leave on the 60th day. Big pain in the ass for just one more day. You are already parinoid just from thinking about it.

Stupid remark. I booked my ticket long ago and cannot just leave two days earlier. Not for a premium price at least.rolleyes.gif

  11. Greetings.

November 16 I will set foot on Thai ground and 61 days later, on January 16, I will fly home. Like previous times I'll be a tourist.

Now what kind of visa do you suggest I get? A single- or double-entry tourist visa (60 days per entry) or something entirely different?

Last month I crossed the Dannok border to Malaysia for some cross-border shopping and I was almost refused re-entry. I actually had to have my passport stamps voided to get back into Thailand.
