  2. Hi!

I am sure that some questions I pose have been answered already over and over and over! :D I tried to avoid double questions by studying a lot of oldies but at the end one is getting lost or I am not clever enough. :o

At the moment I have at least 8 Cambodian tourist visa in my passport covering a 4-months stay and, upto now, a 6 months stay continuing. In between the 2 stays a lap of 2 months (out of the Kingdom).

I have been self-employed in Europe and now “free-lance”, so without monthly proves of income (50+).

I am legally married with a Thai woman.

As I am tired of the lasting visa-runs I will transfer shortly around Baht 400.000 to be able to generate the necessary guarantee as demanded by Immigration.

So, I think, I have to go for a 12 month, multi entry NI visa to be obtained at any Thai Embassy/Consulate in the world because of I am married to a Thai citizen (I am not stuck to the country I live).

    * Now, some rules concerning the monthly income are not 100% clear to me: being married and showing Baht 400.000 (which have to stay at the bank-account for 40 days?) is sufficient or can it be that some Embassies are insisting to see prove of monthly income?

    * As I don’t want to go back to Europe to visit the Embassy in the country I “live”

Which Asian country can be recommended to go to? Once I have heard that Sri Lanka has an “easy-going” Embassy but I don’t want to go on holidays.

    * Immigration mentioned somewhere in the rules that it is necessary to show a non criminal record, which I only can obtain in the country where I lived I think. If so that means that I have to go back to Europe to obtain. I almost cannot believe that they are asking such a document when I read your news clips! :D

*As I am selling my property in Europe isn’t it better to wait until I have sold and to enter with millions in stead of 400.000 before doing unnecessary things?

Worrying is the statement: “And, the final decision on visa application/issue or entry into the Kingdom will always be at the discretion of the immigration officer”. :D

That means, that when you encounter an officer in a bad mood :D (like we experienced already in a District office to marry) you stay with empty hands in another country! :D

    Thanks in advance :D

  3. Quote: The real danger is for people who handle it. It is relatively safe when it is installed, but while being handled (during construction or demolition) it will release a lot more fibers into the air [to be inhaled by construction workers and whoever happens to live, work, go to school etc nearby] Unquote

Exactly: asbestos is that dangerous that various countries has specialized companies to demolish buildings, roofs etc. with this material. They are specially equipped, even with special over-pressurised suits and oxygen masks. In an event of a fire the fire brigade uses special protection and washes the road and tries to keep the air humid to prevent particles from flying around.

    Who are the idiots??

Cuote Professor David Bernstein, a Swiss consultant on toxicology, said here last week that it was a common misconception that asbestos was generally dangerous and should be banned.

"We can use chrysotile safely if it is cleverly used," he said. Unquote

One see this happen in Thailand??

Quote "A substitute for chrysotile would be costly, and I see no reason to pay more for one. Safety and environmental protection are important, but economics is more so," Unquote

    Speechless!

Srichant said, adding that Malaysia, the Philippines and China also still used chrysotile. Unqote

These countries are really good examples to create an excuse to start opening the door widely for manufacturers banned or working with high overheads caused by the special treatment and procedures. They are ready to move to a country offering cheap labour and the three famous monkeys:

    post-22212-1147594636_thumb.jpg

Cuote According to health and environmental experts, the potential risk of asbestos is due to its cumulative effects, but there still has been no sufficient study covering this issue.

    Unquote

Those “sufficient studies” are always the excuse to delay and delay rules and regulations!

Cuote "It is a challenge to our country, as well as other countries, on how practically to balance economic gain and environmental and health losses of our people," she said. Uncuote

    Speechless again…..

Furthermore, in Holland for example, the asbestos manufacturers are paying hugh amounts of money to (ex)-labourers suffering of asbestoses or to widows of such persons who died. Are they doing charity or…….. Seems that there are enough evidences.

disclaimer: thanks to the, for me anonymus, maker of his partly published picture!

  4. I have been told to be carefull with mosquitos biting dogs causing blindness. I know that sandflies can infect dogs in quite big parts of the world (Leishmaniosis) but I have never heard something concerning mosquitos. Somebody knows more?? Thanks

thanks!! I'll go to the vet asap! :o

  5. I don't know about gerbils, but I do know that guinea pigs are present aplenty, at least in Bangkok. Are you sure they would survive the trip, though?

I'm not sure, and i don't want to them die on the trip, sure.. :o Maybe i just have to give them away..

you have 2 questions, 1 concerning the survival during the journey and 2 if the climate in Thailand is Gerbil friendly.

The first question can be answered by yor local vet and a lot of airliners are very specialised in transporting animals (The Dutch Royal Airlines KLM for example). Try these two options. When you are able to get them in the cabine lugage you can observe them yourselve and your local vet can recommend you for sure any tranquilizer like they prescribe for animals in these circumstances!

  6. Maybe someone came along and took the money and phone and threw the bag away, she found it and is returning the bag.

Usually the theft would just take the money and toss the bag away.

Shouldnt always expect the worse in people

Later that day the village headman of that village, 2 down from us, appeared with the aforementioned bag, minus the mobile phone and 400 baht in cash. He said a woman in his village had found it and was returning the documents, ie ID card and AIA insurance card but was keeping the phone and money!

  7. Hi

Am I the only one who is woken up at all hours whilst in the UK because Thai's have no concept of global time?

Because its 10.00 in the morning in Thailand then it must be 10.00 in the morning every where in the world. They seem most confused when I explain it's 3.00 am in the UK and they have just woken me up and that is why I am not happy :o

Anyone else suffering sleepless nights? :D

    TBWG :D

As anoying as the British who cannot adapt to the standard European summer- and wintertimes which causes a lot of times also inconviniences in business. :D OK, no sleepless nights, that's true: the differences are not exceeding (only) one hour. :D

  10. No need for apology on posting. Before this forum was started that would have been the best place but now we have the photography section the people here are more likely to be able to help you; as Astral proved. Good luck with the repairs; you may get a new camera out of it.

thanks, but I am not very enthousiastic about Asian representatives and that about a new camera: :o

  11. Don't say you cooked it.

    Just say it stopped working..........

No! :o But I think the by the manufacturer advised top value of 40 degr. C. has come down by some failure: I can make some photo's and than a warning. Putting the camera a little while in the fridge :D helps for a while but I don't have a portable fridge. I think that the electronics are getting overheated by some failure.

  12. Will they ever learn :D

  13. What camera? What site?

If camera is out of guarantee period and not of professional level it may not be worthwhile trying to get it repaired.

sorry for posting wrong and sorry for forgetting to supply the most important data! :o Can it be the age? :D

Minolta, and there official site is mentioning Thailand to click on and.... nothing, but this appears more with the hugh multinationals represented in Thailand, or.......everything in Thai.

No, just saw that I have 10 days remaining! Am I lucky, but I am not very sure that they will honour the period and before I get it at the right place..... No, I like to show professional but it is only a DIMAGE A200, but somewhere I have heard that it is the one behind the camera who is making the pictures.

    Thanks for your response!

  14. 1. Does somebody has experience and can give me an address where my camera can be serviced? Bangkok area. I cannot find any Thai address in their site.

    2. Did somebody experienced problems with a digital camera concerning exceeding of temperature? Although the manufacturer gave limits up to 40 degr.C. and I staid under this limit I think the problem can be caused by temperature.

    Thanks on forehand

  17. IATA: Not enough gates for future growth

    BOONSONG KOSITCHOTETHANA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) urged immediate improvements to ensure a smooth launch for the new Suvarnabhumi airport.

David Inglis, an airport development expert at the airline industry group, identified shortcomings of Suvarnabhumi on the eve of the first technical flight today at the 155-billion-baht airport, to be presided over by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Reflecting the airlines’ perspective, he singled out an insufficient number of gates and constraints on baggage handling capabilities as the most critical areas.

He said the present number of gates, 51, was decided at a time when authorities projected 30 million annual passengers. Passenger numbers were later revised upward to 45 million. Given passenger growth projections, Suvarnabhumi would begin to feel as shortage of gates as soon as 2007 and would need 90 gates in 2010 and 113 in 2015, Mr. Inglis said.

He also advised Airports of Thailand (AoT), the operator of the new airport, to centralise passenger security screening to reduce inconvenience.

As well, he said AoT should expand the retail concession area, now at 18.000 square metres and granted to the King Power group, to enable it to generate more income and meet passenger demand.

The Suvarnabhumi passenger terminal is larger than that one at Hong Kong International Airport, but has only half the retail space of the latter.

The expanded retail space would help AoT improve cash flow and avoid imposing higher service fees for airlines, such as for landing charges, Mr. Inglis said.

About 60% of Hong Kong airport’s income comes from non-aeronautical sources while AoT is counting on retail rentals for only 20% of its income.

As there will be a lot of Airbus 380 super-jumbo jets flying in the second hlafof this decade, IATA also recommended that Suvarnabhumi dedicate more gates than the present five to the 555-seat aircraft.

IATA emphasised the airport should begin operation only when it is definitely ready, to avoid a repeat of the Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur experiences.
