You are totally wrong there. First of all you have to compare it to costs and secondly you can't even find people working for less than 15-20K baht a month, which is nearly the same as Spanish and Portugese get with all their costs in EURO. Never heard them complain or use that as excuse to not offer service.
Last but not least, Cambodians working for way less but being very very service minded too. Vietnamese too.
Not to mention we nowadays also pay nearly the same (or more with for example wine and beer) than it costs in all those countries. And I hope you understand we are not talking about the service at a 50 baht pad thai street food place here.
Are you sure about the 15-20k baht monthly wage?
Most of the people I know work 6 day weeks in factories for around 8-10k 10 if they work 12
Hour shifts.

Blimey, there is a whole world of difference between someone caught up in an emotional
access situation, and some fella (possibly troll) thinking about impregnating a bar girl and
popping round to play dad a few days a month.
Both situations are messed up, but the one you describe is sadly occasionally unavoidable, the
one the OP describes is one entered into deliberately and for purely selfish reasons.

Girls looking for work in Pattaya, I assume you mean in the entertainment industry, would not
fly anywhere, they could barely afford the bus fare.
And what basis do you have to state that men wouldn't go to Pattaya for fear of
seeing their ex wife dancing? You are so sure you posted it twice.
My in laws love visiting Pattaya, there is so much for them to see and do, they go
nowhere near the girly bars which is a tiny percentage of the greater Pattaya area.
When they drive in they visit the water parks, big Buddha ,Nong Nooch, Koh Larn etc.
Where they live in rural eastern ubon, there is not the incredible diversity with foreigners
from so many different countries, the bright neon lights and yes the beach.
They are fairly regular visitors as my sister in law lives in Chon buri where she works
in one of the big car plants, the Thais really don't fret about the "sordid reputation" of
Pattaya, it does seem to be a western obsession.

These are foreigners who did everything to follow the Thai visa rules. These people contacted a well established and reputable school to obtain an ED visa. If anything, this group tried to follow the rules more than just about all other stranded foreigners. They didn't opt for a fake volunteer or ED visa or make up a bogus reason for why they can't leave Thailand. สมน้ำหน้า doesn't apply here at all. What's wrong with you?
If they were a reputable and we'll established school, why did they not provide the visa
or give a refund?
It seems a little odd that so many applied for this visa in a relatively short period of time
although I don't know how many schools offer courses compatible with visa requirements
on the Island.

this is Thailand, come healthy and leave in a coffin...
Who has died and left in a coffin?
3 people have been reported to have positive tests in this article, I'm guessing that they
will spend 2 more weeks in a more strictly monitored quarantine and released when clear.
Hopefully, like the majority of people who contract this virus, they make a full recovery.

My worry was always what would happen if I unwittingly got in to a dispute with a Thai would not back down. Let's say something simple like they backed their car in to yours, and then tried to say it was your fault and went all out to "get you". Thais know foreigners living in the country are vulnerable in this respect and given that the justice system does not work as one might expect, the risk is real. Sure, it's not likely to happen, but there IS a risk.
I lived in Thailand for some years before returning home. The problem I had is that I never felt entirely secure when I was living there. There was always that small voice in the back of my head telling me that if I had bad luck and someone decided they didn't like me then I could be shown the door. I just can't live that way. I know some people dismiss the idea but I prefer to be a realist. It is one of the main reasons I prefer to live in my own country and return to Thailand for a holiday every so often.
So you left Thailand because a voice inside your head told you something bad might happen......

millions of dollars every week without dreaming
12 million according to the OP
Small compared to some western lotto prizes, but absolutely life
changing for a 49 year old lady from NE Thailand who probably earns
2000 a month, if that.
Some Thais are fairly superstitious, especially when it comes to buying
a lotto ticket, so the dream aspect will be lapped up by the hopeful.

if you can't work that out mate, I can't help you. A little google research on macro economics in a modern changing world order would be interesting for you. Movement of money from Sovereign Funds to buy assets in some else's country is classic strategic thinking. The paper below is a good read.
How can they be assets if there is the reported over stock of empty condos, hotels and
malls?
Back on topic, I stayed there (Sabai lodge) on my first visit to Pattaya. Nice big pool
and gardens as reported, Central marina up the soi. Getting a bit shabby now and a huge
footprint, so not surprised at its demise, but a little sad/nostalgic.....

If you vote other than a nationalist you are branded scum or a traitor, that is not the way a modern fully functional society should work.
That's pretty rich coming from a brexiteer, perhaps the Scots want to take back

Maybe an independent utopia will be every bit as good as post Brexit england.

How does one explain why, all of these Thai nationals seeking to escape the UK, were there in the first place. Are they all 'trapped tourists unable to return normally or disenchanted business owners?
Maybe they are married to UK nationals, maybe some working, there are all kinds of people from all over the world living and working in the UK. There are limited amounts of repatriation flights, even for Thai nationals, so there is bound to be a backlog, especially with an apparent 2nd wave on the way.

I rarely do this, but no other way, I have to says your post is complete BS.
In Germany everybody uses masks where he told to do, and will be fined if he doesn't, because it makes sense where the rules apply. This is inside of buildings with other people, like supermarkets and shops, inside of public transport. People have to pay a fine if they don't follow.
To claim strong boycotting there only shows that you don't know what you are talking about.
Discotheques are still closed due to Covid in Germany. How about Thailand? As well as every big commercial event inside. I heard that boxing events are opened now in Thailand, and cock fighting is allowed now. But you claim Thai authorities and communities have done a lot, while rarely testing and allowing this?
And now, if you are in Thailand, go outside, and count how many Thais don't wear masks. And have a look on the photo in post #27 of poster Meechai in this thread.
There is little point in wearing a mask outside, in shops and on public transport
and enclosed spaces, definitely.

So the Criminal Court, obviously, has atrocious anti-Covid measures ?
Double standards yet again.
It seems that their anti covid measures were adequate, as all but 3 of the tests
carried out were negative. I don't see how that can be classed as atrocious.
It seems like a sensible, cautious approach was taken to rule out infection by
anyone who may have come into contact with this guy.

Have you not heard about the trail of bankruptcies that have followed trump

He has incredible lawyers and accountants who have managed to look after
his personal wealth, whilst a string of companies including airlines, ca and soft
drinks companies have failed owing billions of dollars.
I have no idea what Joe Biden has achieved in his business life, but to claim
that trump is some kind of entrepreneurial genius is ridiculous.

That's not even 2 years of foreign aid...why not stop that nonsense....add on the 4 billion just spent on contracts for housing asylum seekers, not to mention the 10s of billions keeping them....could easily get through this mess if got priorities right....I don't see what help yoga classes in Nepal are to the economy.
Do you have any credible links to those asylum figures?
I had a quick look around the interweb and saw a couple of outraged
articles in the express stating that the bill to look after the asylum seekers
in the UK was around £365 million per annum, and that apparently came out
of the foreign aid kitty, as I said it was the express so accuracy and credibility
would be lacking.
The 30 billion for foreign aid sounds about right as we are committed to 0.7%
of the economy or GDP which was around £13.5 billion a couple of years back,
but given the current state of the economy will be rather less.
Couldn't see any links to how much a Nepalese yoga teacher is getting paid.

There is no point in coming back! I need to go to Oz for business and medical but if I go there is no guarantee that I'll be able to get back in even if I can arrange insurance (I'm 75)! There is nothing to do and no-one to do it with, everyone is paranoid to the point if you go to any major shop or shopping centre without a mask and temperature check....forget it! There hasn't been a local covid 19 case for over 100 days, I can't even guess why the checks are still happening?
I don't see wearing a mask or having your temperature taken as a big deal, and at 75 years old
it would be beneficial for you if there are measures taken to lessen the chance and control
a potential outbreak. Not sure where in Oz you are from, but I understand that in Victoria
there are quite strict rules about masks and social distancing.

Your wife, being a Thai citizen, is entitled to free healthcare at a government hospital in the province she is registered as living. That's why she does not need health insurance as there is no risk of her doing a runner on the bill.
Also I don't think many Thais, especially in the the poorer sections of society have
any health insurance, many live day to day. My GF does have an insurance policy that
if she dies her parents get around 250000 baht, but that's obviously not the same thing?

this is why a lot of Thais are useless riders they are not taught any of this,,same goes for westerners that have never had training in Europe,,,,,,you can spot them a mile.
I was given bit of advice when learning to drive....
Assume that no other driver is aware of your presence and assume they are going to
do something unexpected, who knows what distractions are going on with them.
