She won big? how big is big in Thailand? Where I live people win

millions of dollars every week without dreaming

12 million according to the OP

Small compared to some western lotto prizes, but absolutely life

changing for a 49 year old lady from NE Thailand who probably earns

    2000 a month, if that.

Some Thais are fairly superstitious, especially when it comes to buying

a lotto ticket, so the dream aspect will be lapped up by the hopeful.

if you can't work that out mate, I can't help you. A little google research on macro economics in a  modern changing world order would be interesting for you. Movement of money from Sovereign Funds to buy assets in some else's country is classic strategic thinking.  The paper below is a good read.

How can they be assets if there is the reported over stock of empty condos, hotels and

    malls?

Back on topic, I stayed there (Sabai lodge) on my first visit to Pattaya. Nice big pool

and gardens as reported, Central marina up the soi. Getting a bit shabby now and a huge

footprint, so not surprised at its demise, but a little sad/nostalgic.....

How does one explain why, all of these Thai nationals seeking to escape the UK, were there in the first place. Are they all 'trapped tourists unable to return normally or disenchanted business owners?

Maybe they are married to UK nationals, maybe some working, there are all kinds of people from all over the world living and working in the UK. There are limited amounts of repatriation flights, even for Thai nationals, so there is bound to be a backlog, especially with an apparent 2nd wave on the way.

I rarely do this, but no other way, I have to says your post is complete BS.

In Germany everybody uses masks where he told to do, and will be fined if he doesn't, because it makes sense where the rules apply. This is inside of buildings with other people, like supermarkets and shops, inside of public transport. People have to pay a fine if they don't follow.

To claim strong boycotting there only shows that you don't know what you are talking about.

Discotheques are still closed due to Covid in Germany. How about Thailand? As well as every big commercial event inside. I heard that boxing events are opened now in Thailand, and cock fighting is allowed now. But you claim Thai authorities and communities have done a lot, while rarely testing and allowing this?

And now, if you are in Thailand, go outside, and count how many Thais don't wear masks. And have a look on the photo in post #27 of poster Meechai in this thread.

There is little point in wearing a mask outside, in shops and on public transport

    and enclosed spaces, definitely.

So the Criminal Court, obviously, has atrocious anti-Covid measures ?

    Double standards yet again.

It seems that their anti covid measures were adequate, as all but 3 of the tests

carried out were negative. I don't see how that can be classed as atrocious.

It seems like a sensible, cautious approach was taken to rule out infection by

anyone who may have come into contact with this guy.

What is the EU doing about the illegal immigrants, who, after all entered the EU mostly from the Mediteranean, traveled across safe haven countries including France, and then are helped to cross the English Channel.

Just helping them on their way to their preferred destination.

That's not even 2 years of foreign aid...why not stop that nonsense....add on the 4 billion just spent on contracts for housing asylum seekers, not to mention the 10s of billions keeping them....could easily get through this mess if got priorities right....I don't see what help yoga classes in Nepal are to the economy.

Do you have any credible links to those asylum figures?

I had a quick look around the interweb and saw a couple of outraged

articles in the express stating that the bill to look after the asylum seekers

in the UK was around £365 million per annum, and that apparently came out

of the foreign aid kitty, as I said it was the express so accuracy and credibility

    would be lacking.

The 30 billion for foreign aid sounds about right as we are committed to 0.7%

of the economy or GDP which was around £13.5 billion a couple of years back,

but given the current state of the economy will be rather less.

Couldn't see any links to how much a Nepalese yoga teacher is getting paid.

There is no point in coming back! I need to go to Oz for business and medical but if I go there is no guarantee that I'll be able to get back in even if I can arrange insurance (I'm 75)!  There is nothing to do and no-one to do it with, everyone is paranoid to the point if you go to any major shop or shopping centre without a mask and temperature check....forget it! There hasn't been a local covid 19 case for over 100 days, I can't even guess why the checks are still happening?

I don't see wearing a mask or having your temperature taken as a big deal, and at 75 years old

it would be beneficial for you if there are measures taken to lessen the chance and control

a potential outbreak. Not sure where in Oz you are from, but I understand that in Victoria

there are quite strict rules about masks and social distancing.

Your wife, being a Thai citizen, is entitled to free healthcare at a government hospital in the province she is registered as living. That's why she does not need health insurance as there is no risk of her doing a runner on the bill.

Also I don't think many Thais, especially in the the poorer sections of society have

any health insurance, many live day to day. My GF does have an insurance policy that

if she dies her parents get around 250000 baht, but that's obviously not the same thing?

He seems to be very optimistic in his approach toward a recovery.  So .... no problem then   !

It would be foolish for any finance minister stating that his country is in it

The British one was almost ecstatic that the recession is not going to be quite as

devastating as forecast, still horrendous and the worst since WW2 but not as bad

as the one during the Napoleonic wars!!

They see a persecuted minority and completely flood the platform with representatives

of that niche in society. I roll my eyes at their clumsy attempts at doing the right thing,

whilst the farage fanboys go absolutely bonkers in a predictable and ridiculous way!

I always believed Budhism to be a compassionate religion, see how they care for the diseased and often dangerous soi dogs for example. Is this now the new face of the religion?

Christianity is a compassionate religion as well, yet the same thoughts and

words are expressed towards the homeless beggars elsewhere.

I'm sure a true Buddhist wouldn't be saying such things, same as a true Christian.

Sadly people who claim to be one religion or another only do so when it suits them.

Back on point, I didn't see one mention of Buddhism in the quoted article.

The only mention of Thailand and its people being caring was a footnote added

by Thai visa, no doubt to generate mass debate among the nay sayers!

    Incorrect,

below is the quote from the OP, stating they have to stay in their hotel for 14 days.

"Once at the island of their choice they must stay in their quarantine hotel for 14 days, stay on the island and be subjected to further Covid-19 tests".

Seems a bit ambiguous, surely if you stay in your quarantine hotel, you would be

    staying on the island.

The way the quoted directive sounds is that you can leave the hotel as long as you

stay on the island, but perhaps I'm reading it wrong or something is lost in translation!

Would these be Burmese cruising the Gulf of Thailand on ships? All you can catch seafood buffets.

I mean honestly, how are these 2 million people going to get here? Walk, swim, sail?

Airlines just can't whipsaw capacity on a moment's notice? Airlines can't even sell tickets for ravel to Thailand now. THAI Airways won't be flying much before Q3 2021.

    Who wants to come here?

Vacations are planned long in advance.

And why is it always a "scheme", trying to "lure" tourists?

Are these Thai words which have a different meaning but this is how they translate them?

I guess you could scheme to lure two million Chinese tourists, assuming they want to come here. Everybody holler, Zero Baht.

I don't think it would take that long to arrange the recommissioning of the thousands

of planes sitting idle around the world and the operators would be happy to use their

assets. However, as stated earlier, there would be a limited amount of people who could

take a 5 week holiday, including the 4 weeks of quarantine either end.

I would consider it as I have a few quid sloshing around after 4 months of furlough, I

was even accruing holiday days during the lockdown so wouldn't be a huge issue for me.

I guess it all depends on how to obtain a fit to fly certificate, how much the official

hotel costs and other hoops I may have to jump through before I would commit to

such a plan, I've been away far too long and see this as the only viable proposal

at the moment for a return.

I knew who she was because I had the misfortune to watch a movie with her in it. Her character was an awful woman.

You do realise that a character isn't real and is being portrayed by an actor, do you

think Jonny Depp is actually a pirate from the 17th century?

Alan Rickman was a lovely generous loving family man, but some of his

    Characters were really unpleasant.

Anyway if you want to criticise her movies or comedic qualities, go ahead

not everyone shares the same opinions, I'm not a fan of hers myself, but

to call her a pig dog is not the way to do it.
