Pointe du Hoc, American Rangers scaled the cliffs after being around 3 miles of course in landing crafts, the area was heavily bombed by the RAF, and heavy guns from the sea. The first place to be liberated was Bénouville in France, well it was the cafe Gandree at the Pegasus Bridge, I've been there and spoken to Madam Gondree, she was 4yrs old when she was woken up to the sound of gunfire. Major John Howard led the force, 6 gliders, his glider landed only metres from the bridge, pitch dark, incredible pilots.
