The comments section of this article is particularly enlightening. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/live/stock-market-today-dow-sp-500-nasdaq-slide-as-inflation-tariff-fears-push-stocks-to-another-losing-week-210048275.html
  2. Big tech crash yesterday with China potetnially having a better AI chip than Nvidia. Yeah I got about 90% out of the market after the Nov election except for some oil stuff, commodities like copper, uranium and lithium (if it ever comes back). Trying to insulate myself as much as possible from the economic chas that seems inevitable. That includes moving more money to Thai banks just in case the dollar devalues. A lot of uncertainties with an off-the-cuff shooter like Trump and the market doesn't like uncertainty. Well, at my age I probably shouldn't be in the market anyway but it's always been an entertaining game (better than the casino anyway 🙂 ) to dabble in but now not so much.
  3. FYI about Thailand's CFS ports, AI says: When shipping household goods to Thailand, the most likely CFS (Container Freight Station) port used would be Laem Chabang Port as it is the largest deep-sea port in the country and primarily handles containerized cargo, including personal effects and household goods;. Key points about Laem Chabang Port for household goods: Major port for container shipping: This port is well-equipped to handle large volumes of containerized shipments, making it suitable for moving household items. Customs clearance facilities: Laem Chabang has the necessary customs infrastructure to process personal effects and household goods efficiently. Accessibility to Bangkok: While not directly in Bangkok, Laem Chabang is easily accessible via transportation networks, allowing for convenient delivery of your household items to your final destination.
  4. Hello All, I have a small shipment (20 boxes 24"x18x18") of household goods to ship to Thailand. I want to go to the terminal myself to pickup the goods if that's possible?? I'm still exploring what shipping company to use. This one (screenshot below) asks to select Bangkok, Laem Chabang and Latkrabang. Does anyone have experience receivng HHG at them? Is any less hassle to pick them up yourself? Do they all take about the same time or is one slower than the other? Thanks all! 😃
  5. Normally not unless you did a credit card authorization form or the hotels just had a lax policy. It is a thing nowdays with many hotels. In any event better to have a card with your name than take chances. They want a name on the card to specifically hold the guest accountable and nameless cards do not cut it for them in that rerspect. ...guests checking-in must provide a valid driver's license or passport and a valid credit card. The name on the credit card must match the name on the reservation. If the name on the card does not match, a credit card authorization form must be completed and signed by the cardholder.
  6. Thanks all for the great information! I have Bangkok Bank and KBank so I am going to ask them about it.
  7. Yeah you can probably get away with it at hostels. But not likely at 4 or 5 star hotels.
  8. I have debit cards from Bangkok Bank and KBank and neither has my name imprinted. Are there any Thai banks that imprint your name on the debit card? It becomes important if a hotel asks you for it when you check in because generally they will be rejected . AI says this "𝑵𝒐, 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒂 𝒅𝒆𝒃𝒊𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒂 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒕, 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒆, 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒂 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒅 𝑰𝑫 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏." So it's kind of a second calss product without the name. I wonder if it's that way for everybody foreigners and Thai citizens no name on debit card?

I wonder if this is just a thing they do to foreigners? The other question is why don't they do it?
  10. But how will the minister feel when Trump's tariffs are imposed? American Expats might not be too popular. There's going to be a lot of buyers remorse for electing Trump. NYT "Trump’s Vast Tariffs Would Rock Global Businesses and Shake Alliances" https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/28/us/politics/trumps-tariffs-global-trade.html
  11. ...It is hard to imagine a candidate more unworthy to serve as president of the United States than Donald Trump. He has proved himself morally unfit for an office that asks its occupant to put the good of the nation above self-interest. He has proved himself temperamentally unfit for a role that requires the very qualities — wisdom, honesty, empathy, courage, restraint, humility, discipline — that he most lacks. ... ...Mr. Trump’s economic priorities are more tax cuts, which would benefit mostly the wealthy, and more tariffs, which will make prices even more unmanageable for the poor and middle class... It should be pointed out that not only are Trump's tariffs inflationary for the US but they will also drive down the value of the dollar. If you think the dollar to baht is low now you'll think these are good times if there is a Trump 2.0. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/30/opinion/editorials/kamala-harris-2024.html?unlocked_article_code=1.QU4.R-YS.JxxY4uN6FNxb&smid=url-share
  12. And here she is the great Betty Bowers on Who Is Really Trying to Steal This Election (LOL she's great!) :
  13. I love Ginger Snaps but they're hard to come by in Bangkok so I made my own from scratch and they turned out great! But don't use blackstrap molasses the best bet is using Grandmas Original Molasses (I got from Villa Market). Make them thinner if you want more crunchy. Here's the recipe: https://preppykitchen.com/gingersnap-cookies/
  14. Your too funny! Right everything is a rigged witch hunt when Trumpers don't get their way. Well I got news for ya in about a month your heads will be exploding. Can't wait.😁
  15. LOL That is really oh so rich! The only guy in US history who tried to overthrow a US election is now calling election interference. The problem is that a lot of gullible MAGAs will bite. Well Don-The-Con sorry to tell you this but US voters have a right to know everything about the candidates they are voting for. Reminds me of the Hillary and Comey revelations back in 2016. Yup what goes around comes around.
