  1. Can't wait to see the figures at the end of 2015,especially if there is going to be another coup. The land of smiles has had its day. Corruption, scams, shake downs, and greed are the order of the day for the Thai people.Still there is hope if the Chinese tour groups can get their act together and stop carrying their shopping bags into the hotel breakfast buffets and learn a few diplomatic niceties .............and pigs will fly.

  2. "Driving her (Yingluck) out of politics could instigate resentment among her political supporters," said Thai academic Pavin Chachavalpongpun, of Kyoto University.
"Thailand is Thailand and the rule of law can be bent to serve the power interests of the elites."

Is this academic suggesting that the rule of law should be bent to serve the purposes of the elite Shinawatra clan ?

If it is decided that Yingluck has broken the law whether it be by dereliction of duty, negligence or corruption she must be answerable to the law.

Not holding her to account will for sure instigate resentment in those who have been hurt by any illegal actions of hers.

An example needs to be set and a benchmark laid down for future politicians, engage in anything unlawful and you will be held accountable.

This is an opportunity to do just that and it must be taken.

No I don't think the academic is suggesting any thing like that. What I think he is suggesting is that the laws of any county should be applied equally and fairly. The laws in Thailand are not applied fairly and equally and that is the problem. Regrettably that will never change. If an example is to be set it must apply to all those who have used their positions to benefit themselves. Using people as scapegoats will only cause more insurrection. The NLA has an ideal opportunity on Friday to show ALL the Thai people that there is fairness and that their sole aim is to bring unity to the Thai People. Any thing else will be a disaster for the junta and Thailand's people.

  3. I wish, i had as much optimism as the Bank of Thailand. Regardless, it's her job to give a positive prognosis, as we do to our bosses.

Perhaps, she should see this article and video first, before making any remarks:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2874372/Angry-monk-slaps-expat-face-train-Thailand-victim-offered-double-seat-two-women.html

How many more tourists would love to get slapped by a monk? Unless, they are masochistic.

    Blocked.

  4. Its clear and simple. Thailand has had its day.People used to come here for the cheapness and the fun.Sorry to say all this has gone. Thailand and its people have forgotten that tourist have choices, which false smiles and obligatory wha's can not change. The Thai middle class now dominate and are hungry for cash at any cost.Scams and even more scams have been the Thai's downfall. Greed has overtaken common sense, and trying to blame World events only makes Thai's look more stupid than they really are.Corruption is endemic and never ending.Free speech, forget it.When opening your mouth to a so called friend or neighbour can land you to the place of attitude adjustment,or even prison, who would want to even talk to anyone. The thought police are around every corner waiting to search your bags or take a urine sample.Trying to sell the so called Thainess is a lost cause,no one believes it any more.

  5. The Americans are now producing the best quality rubber from dandelion weeds, and they don't have to wait seven years. Looks like the very people who wanted change are not getting what they wanted.Very quiet in the North East. Rice farmers have accepted their lot and are selling their rice without a subsidy quit happily. Perhaps the southern lot should take a leaf out of the Norths book and get on with it and stop moaning.

  6. What is truly amazing about the cases of foreigners who are killed in Thailand is the total lack of involvement by their Embassies. 84 days to bring a charge is beyond comprehension when it took only hours in the Koh Tao case. Of course we must remember that where Thai's are the prime suspects and foreigners are the victims there is little chance of conviction against Thai's. I always used to believe that Embassies where there to protect their citizens rights. It seems that is now not the case and issuing warnings is now the order of the day. The "Thai Smile" is,by most people, seen as a friendly gesture and welcoming.Regrettably in many situations this is not the case and can lead to unwanted attention.Tourist and expats living here should bear in mind that Thailand is still an undeveloped country where the rule of law,if there is one, depends on who is administering it and can differ greatly from the way laws are perceived in their own countries. Another point to bear in mind is the fact that Thai's in the South of Thailand, including the Islands, are completely different to those in the middle and North. Southerners like to give you the impression that they like foreigners, when in truth they only want their money. I speak from experience, having lived on Koh Samui for four years. The best move I made was kissing the place good bye.smile.png
