Thailand is already "involved" - in any trade war or conflict Thailand will be used by one side or the other as a base - this has been thecae for the past 100 years or even more.

Thailand currently is having a dalliance with China and getting new railways and roads from the deal....perhaps not so good when it comes to paying off loans etc which will put them in debt to china.

Essentially China's extension is trade-based but it seems the Xi is getting more and more dictatorial in his dotage and this could lead to serious problems for Thailand

They have USE, European and JAnaese industries here in big numbers - they also have Taiwanese factories - if China polarises the situation, Thailand could have serious economic repercussions.

    USE?

    You mean the Eurozone?

    Lol ????

    That sounds strange to me.

Would such a "good man" stay with a much younger girl at all if he cares so much about her future?

In my limited experience from relative rich guys and their younger girlfriends there is just one thing what those girls do after he died. They look for another rich guy.

If I die, my wife will get my pensions that I worked for. And I certainly don't care what will happen after I die. I got my will to get cremated in a Buddhist ceremony, and my ashes will be thrown into the gulf of Siam. Period.

My friend John "relocated" back to the UK. Free housing and medical care over there. He "lost" all his money here with not so wise "investments".

Did he want to move? No. But at least over there he could survive for free.

If I would "relocate" to GerMoney, there would be nothing for free to me in this nanny state that I never wanted. And I doubt there's anything really for free in the UK.

With Cha Cha moving the nation backwards, we seem to be moving in the opposite direction of progressive and innovative. Regressive, is more like it. As much as the  sabateurs talk about wanting the tourists back, they are not offering much in the way of concessions or sacrifices to get them.

Tourism will never be the same again here. My heart goes out to those dependent on the industry.

Maybe tourism will not be the same, but it will still be there. If no Westerners come then tourists will come from Asian countries (eg India)

Probably more to do with the public being mostly poor and being refused visas on the basis of not enough income or reason to return !

They can get an invitation from someone who guarantees they will not be a burden to Europe. Especially if they have a family here in Thailand they have a reason to return.  That should be enough to grant them a Schengen tourist visa. It's a shame for European countries that they check this while I was never checked when I came as a tourist to Thailand - without a visa.

about 14 years ago I applied to open an account with SCB. They said no problem but you will need to take our insurance first, so I said ok and supplied my passport details, Some time later the manager appeared and said sorry their computer said I was too old, I still got my account, 4 accounts in fact.

    Too old for an insurance?

Not sure about the, “many Americans”. May well be true  since the U.S. sadly has no national healthcare program so it is a hodgepodge of private insurance or not. What I would love to see is a wrap around Thai healthcare program bringing retirees into the Thai national system for a substantially higher accident policy for 300 baht. If it works to cover the tourist motorbike accident then that would address one major issue.

That would be an additional accident insurance where you can put someone (your Thai spouse) as a beneciary in case you die. Or put in a will.
