This has to be one of the most pathetic 'issues' I've read of... In the photo there is another person 'lying down (sleeping?) on the beach... .... so what is the issue here ??... wearing orange... Its odd that the guy 'couldn't' answer questions, but why on earth question him in the first place... This is truly pathetic - especially considering within 100m there are MC or TukTuk guys about to kick the shyte out of some foriegner who doesn't like that he was overcharged !!.. ( I know, I know... I've no proof of that etc etc yadda yadda yadda... before you pipe up LL !!).

Driving License 5 year renewal Prakanong Bangkok.
richard_smith237 replied to FRM-BKK's topic in Bangkok
Q1 - I'm not sure as I renewed both my car and MC licence before the E-DLT video was a thing, but given the following answers, I think its safe to assume that one QR code is sufficient. Q2 - 'Test' ?? what do you mean by Test ?... If you mean the 'in class checks' - such as colour blindness, reaction, proximity test etc... then you only need to do these once if getting both car and MC license at the same time. The last time I obtained my License in Jan 2020 (renewal of 5 year license) - at DLT Area 3 BangChang (Sukhumvit 99/1) in-class tests etc were good for both MC and Car licenses. Q3 - Unknown (a complete guess - 3 months seems reasonable for renewal) -
I initially thought the same thing.. then after another poster responded to my question I realised the Op may not be a native English speaker (see quote below) - thus, the assumption is that this is a one off event, otherwise he'd already have removed a lock on a previous 'encounter' and now knows how to. Accusing the Op of fabricating a thread is somewhat cynical don't you think ?... you may want to consider stepping back from being yourself sometimes LL... there's no need to start accusing the Op of telling lies - Op has no reason to make this up.

Chinese man robbed of 3 million baht by thieves in Chon Buri

UK Passport Renewal Time
richard_smith237 replied to stubuzz's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
they have moved , new address is in an earlier post I didn't see this response until now... Good info - thanks for the update.... (I'll need to renew my passport next year, I'd have probably rocked up at the trendy building without double checking).. -
I was going to suggest this... The Op wrote that someone is locking his motorcycle - which implies a repeated event. If this is a one off it could be a mistake - however, if this is a repeated event, then there is another facet at play here... someone is targeting him and he needs to know who it is and why. Also, as suggest, report it to the Condo committee, they 'should' have some tools at hand to release the lock.

Some posters clearly make stuff up… others have a more reliable posting history. You are barking up the trouser legs of the wrong poster - OMF is not known for posting BS… I think it’s fair enough to take his comments at face value. -

I have formed my opinion through exposure - spending a long time here we build friendships and acquaintances, we are told things, we become aware of things that do not reach the 'English media sources' etc.. Thus, its perfectly understandable to me that others have 'scratched the surface' and are also aware of the realities of life here. There is no way to 'back up' or 'provide you with proof'.. no links, no reports etc... its up to you if you want to take my word for it or not... For posters such as OMF - there is no reason for him to exaggerate his claims, he seems like a guy who says it the way he see's it - I see no reason to question his comments. I don't see a reason why mine would be questioned - there is a lot that happens in Thailand that we never get to read or hear about and some of us may have more exposure to some pieces of information than others. -
I think you are on a massive over reach here... Particularly having mentioned that you don't think seat-belts should be compulsory... In the example you provided you have committed to a major logical fallacy... If a an impact is sever enough to drive the steering column into a passenger chest, then the impact would surely be severe enough to end in a fatality for anyone not wearing a seatbelt... additionally, the idea that someone could 'duck out of the way' if the steering column was about to impact them is quite preposterous. I'm surprised anyone could sensibly form this logic.

I’ve not carried this out as when we ve moved address I’ve simply kept the same license & the address only changed when I renewed at the 5 year mark. From that perspective I’d suggest not to bother changing the address on the Thai Driving License. That said: if you this is something you consider you should do - I’d guess that a Letter of Address from immigration (or yellow house book is all that’s needed)

I asked the same question earlier on in the thread.. - are you 100% sure you passport is in perfect condition ?… - or, would you have to go & double check it ? (Which is something just don’t do). - I travel & lot & I’ve never checked my passport specifically for damage. - I did have a tiny tear in the ID page a few years back, it was never an issue in any of the countries I’d been in. Let’s not be so easy to judge someone with such slight damage to their passport, it easily goes unnoticed. The people at the airport who made an issue of this on the other hand made a mountain out of a molehill.

He has been on this forum for about a month now... I believe he's trying to set a world record for sheer stupidity. Of all the bumbling, brainless idiots I've had the misfortune to read on this forum, this particular poster (we are discussing) take's the biscuit. His sheer ineptitude is becoming legendary. Every comment appears to be a new low for human intelligence. As a clear monument to stupidity, the forum would be infinitely better off if he just crawled back under whatever rock he slithered out from.

Yup... the saying... "he had it coming"... is often used... again, not condoning violence - but some people behave so poorly, they just have it coming... -

What sort of proof are you looking for, police reports, news reports ??... for some issues proof is difficult to find - that does not mean the experience of someone who has been here a long time is fabricated, it just means that you have not been exposed to such issues and have not scratched the surface of what happens in Thailand to the same degree as someone such as OMF. While I have no exposure to the examples provided by OMF, I don't disagree with his comments - having been here a long time I'm aware that many issues occur and most of them fly below our radar. -

Tell one of them to 'get f$%ked' and you'll find their hair trigger... So yes, IMO, especially in area's such as Pattaya and Patong where an element of contempt for foreigners may have crept in, I'd argue that yes, many, even most, have a hair-trigger and will respond aggressively and escalate a situation should the consider that you have insulted them. The reason you have never been attacked by them is because you are not a fool who uses colourful language and argues with them... And the two reasons you don't are a; you are not a disrespectful idiot, and b; you know such behavior will be met with an extreme response. -

I'll clarify - we've seen 'it' too many times... by 'it' I mean foreigners being attacked my moto-taxi riders, Taxi drivers & TukTuk drivers... We've seen 'it' on the reports on this forum... ... I also followed up with a severe example where a taxi driver attacked a foreigner with a Machete during an argument over 50 baht... the point there being how escalation occurs over the smallest of issues. (and no, I don't have links or stats to back up my 'assertion' - just the experience of being here and noting that I read about these issues more often than would be normal in our home countries) -

Yep.. I agree - The moto-taxis / Taxi's / TukTuk drivers in Phuket seems particularly notorious for their behavior and ease with which they turn to violence at the slightest issue... It could be the un-initiated and or drunk tourists who react negatively to attempted price gouging and that leads to the escalation... when visiting other nations, when I don't know the 'area and risks' one thing I am very careful of is not to verbalise or speak any negative response, knowing how things can quickly grow arms and legs and turn nasty. -
Neither would a 'motorised push-bike' weigh 100kgs and have the inertia to kill someone if hit... Its astonishing to read the logic of some on this forum... they are oblivious to their own stupidity.

No, thats not what he's suggesting - that's you bringing in a logical fallacy - the comparison of those from a completely different socio-econimic demographic is flawed... ... If you were having a conversation with poorly educated lower class 'thug' in your own country, you'd take great care to moderate your tone due to the potential for them to 'take umbrage'... The same applies here... this does not justify a violent response in any form, however, we should still be applying common sense... -

In that case... 'Unprovoked' attacks... I completely agree with you... Extremely rare... Perhaps just a couple in recent memory... (the tourist couple caught up in an unprovoked attacked in Hua Hin a few years back - but that wasn't moto-taxi guys). -

So I don't understand your point. This is a tourist on Phuket, rather than "someone who has been there any length of time". Should he know that they are on a hair trigger? "should a tourist know that they [moto-taxi's guys] have a hair trigger' - Yes, they should know from the perspective of it would be better for them to know etc... Is it their fault if they don't know, it cetainly suggests a lack of common sense & street smarts... ... Should a tourist react to provocation ?... A sensible tourist would avoid such provocation and prevent a situation escalating into an argument... This would be true of any nation, particularly nations which have weaker legal systems. Before you nit-pick... I'm not condoning violence of the taxi-guys at all... But I am suggesting Tourists should know better than to 'react' with poor language or in a manner that leads to escalation. (I'm not suggesting in this case (reported Op) that the tourist used bad language etc- but, I would suggest that the tourists reaction / behavior led to an escalation).
