Ao Nang is far, far busier than when you last visited, as it has expanded greatly.

Do you want to spend three whole days on noisy long-tail boats and fighting with the masses on Railay and Hong Island?

Huay Toh waterfall, Klong Son Nam, Bor Tor caves, Krabi river tour are just a few of the things you can do without fighting in the Mainland Chinese scrum that has become the norm in Thailand's tourist areas.

If you are going afloat - go early (it takes them hours to get the tourists collected and sorted for these trips) and go private (2,200THB boat rental for a private longtail 4 island trip) - don't forget that the exorbitant 400 THB/per head National Park fee has to be added on top.

Krabi/Ao Nang is still a good area to visit as there are many attractions inland away from the masses who mostly don't leave the beach area. There are also far nicer beaches North of Ao Nang but you need transport (Moto will cost 250THB per day) Taxis are still very expensive and not very reliable in this region.

The sea being part of a National Park still means that (thank goodness) we are free of deck-chairs, hawkers, jet-skis and banana boats on beaches here but it is  getting very busy (and noisy) in Ao Nang town. Food is better and cheaper in Krabi Town.

Send me a pm if you need more info.

Glad I saw your post as I too am driving down from Korat on Monday stopping one night en route. I booked two nights in Au nang some weeks ago but had been loathe to book more due to the continuing bad weather and now just realised it's Chinese New Year! I did want to do some snorkelling and swimming via a long tail boat as I did ten years ago,but note the big hike in price you mentioned. Sounds like two nights might be enough? having my own transport I wanted to explore more of the Andaman area ,maybe revisiting Karon in Phuket after six years (hope for the best fear for the worse!) but also maybe Ko lanta where I've never been . Any expanded information and tips you have ,especially seeing as I have stumbled on Chinese New Year ,would be much appreciated . Swimming and snorkelling / outdoor sights etc are my particular interest, certainly not temples. Hope it stops raining!

I think it is put about to test the waters as they say. Like the uk government do before offical. Why not after 5 one year renewals then you can get a 10 year visa for 10000 baht. Thats ok i would do that. But this flaming 90 day reporting is crazy. My thai wife does not have to do that in uk or usa where she has 10 visas

After 5 years my wife got uk citizenship as did her daughter. The 90 day reporting defies any rationale but probably rarely fatal unlike the equally unnecessary visa runs some are obliged to do.

  3. After two extensions based on marriage I'm going to change to retirement as I have sufficient income,it's easier and immigration prefer it as less work for them. My current extension expires 24 January and have always got the full year based on the anniversary of extensions probably because the 30 day under consideration takes it beyond that. As the retirement extension is granted on the spot will they post date it to 24 January if I do it a week or two before or will I effectively lose that time on my new extension? Korat office is usually very helpful and trouble free and we have a good relationship  with them.

But doesn't that cost much more in data?

Yes it does, much more if like me you don't have internet through hard wire/cable and rely on a mobile package. Last month my internet bill cost 2666 baht plus 450 for the flakey and for ever freezing/ buffering ilikehd. Just had True platinum installed with 50% discount so just over 1000 baht for next four months on a six month contract. The relief of not having to continually tinker with ilikehd settings ,interruptions, and having a decent programme guide ,search facility and reminders is a blessing, and much better picture quality too. After four months I can reduce the package anyway to a much cheaper package and just pay 299 baht for football. The demise of satellite is greatly exaggerated!

    Thanks for the replies guys.

There isn't actually any tax due on the rental income as it doesn't even show a profiit against allowable expenses, I just didn't realise I still had to declare it until now.

Just a question,if your expenses exceed income, technically it isn't an income as such, certainly as far as taxable income is concerned . Presumably you only have to show your tenancy agreement and bank statements showing gross rent to immigration so as far as they are concerned it is. Nice one.

It will work on other browsers if an extension or add on is installed to emulate IE.

On Safari a user agent for IE is available on it.

Can you give me the procedure for adding this extension on chrome or safari please?  I've tried but can't seem to figure it out. I know you can do online report up to 15 days before due date. Is that the same for physical reporting if you need to?

  7. I live 70 kilometres from Korat and agree with everything you say about the place and region. I too have travelled around in search of better and it's proved frustrating. Khanom referred to here is pretty with lovely beaches but you'd go stir crazy after a while. A week or two is about enough. Samui which I recently went to again is a cesspool with poor examples of humanity with mainly awful beaches although the climate would certainly be better. I used to love Phuket many ,many years ago ,Karon, but not been for several years and hear depressing things about what it's become which has put me off returning, but guess I'll go later this year post monsoon season and hope for the best but prepare for the worst . I'm really struggling to think of anywhere in Thailand that has nice beaches and lifestyle that isn't too isolated. Is there anywhere now approaching what Phuket used to be ?

  8. I'm on a marriage non immigrant O visa with always the same address. I recently went on a trip in thailand where a couple of hotels took my passport details but I didn't report to Korat immigration when I got back and nothing was said on my following 90 day report,so assume it doesn't tie up? However I'm going on a trip to uk in August when clearly that will be clear on my passport so will I have to do the report within 24 hours of my return even though I'm going back to my same Thai address?

  9. You can have the passport number changed on your drivers license.

I don't recommend traveling to anywhere without having your passport with you,. In the area where you live is not a problem. If you ever had a situation where they wanted to see your passport they could detain you until it could be shown. A drivers license and/or a copy of your passport would not be enough.

    j

I am not saying that I travel without my passport. I simply refuse to use it to check into a hotel - never a problem, my DL is accepted, or often nothing at all!

Why do you refuse to use your passport?
Possibly because like me it then necessitates an inconvenient visit to immigration with TM 30 after getting home. All the hotels I've recently used check my wife and I in using just her ID card, thus no record of me having been away
  10. i noticed a lot of ops question if you have to do tm30 or tm28 every time you leave home for a few days. my criteria is: has anyone filed a new tm30 about you while you where away? i.e., if you stayed in a hotel, they would have filed, so you have to notify immigration once you are back home. if you go and visit friends and they do not bother filing than it would be futile to lodge another tm30 seeing immigration beliefs you have never left home.

In none of the several hotels I've stayed in have they asked for my details as my wife signs in,so as you say, immigration cannot know you've been away,so no need to file really. My Korat office never raised the issue of the time I was away in Singapore in August, which would have been apparent, when I did my marriage extension three weeks ago. My local friend who renews at exactly the same time as me ,and had also left the country returning after me has not had a problem either. Because our respective addresses here haven't changed, could this be the criteria?
  11. To get the income letter from the British embassy they only required 3 months UK bank statements showing my rental income. Korat immigration wanted nothing else. Although they charge 2600 baht for the letter at least I didn't have to go to Bangkok to get it(just EMS it) . I got my original letter quoting my passport number but then had to renew my passport. The embassy which were very helpful reissued the letter with my new passport number for no charge simply by emailing them a scan of my new passport.

  12. You could do your extension now. You loose nothing by doing it early.

You can get the stamps transferred and apply for your extension of stay during the same trip to immigration.

Date of entry is you last entry. For visa put non immigrant O.

At most offices you will need a copy of every page of your old passport that has a stamp or visa for here. Just the photo page of your new passport,

    You should have new photos.

You will need to do a 90 day report. The extension does not count as doing a report.

For you extension applications first attach only the photo page of your new passport and then get copies of the stamps they put in your new passport.to attach.

You will only need your income letter.

All done; I thought I'd just add that I was charged 200 baht for the transfers, but as the whole process was conducted smoothly and by the friendly avuncular officer who remembered us from last year I don't mind. We bought them all some coffees and snacks as they are all quite friendly and helpful in Korat office and no harm in keeping them sweet .

I didn't think it worth raising as a separate post ,but Joe,you might like to know that I had an income letter from the embassy that I got in November for practical reasons as you told me it was valid for six months. I noticed it quoted my old passport number that was appropriate at the time. I contacted the embassy as I was worried about that and they said they would send me a new one if I just scanned and emailed a copy when I got the new one. I did this on Monday 11th when it arrived and sure enough it arrived on Saturday by EMS with no extra charge from embassy. They were very helpful and thought this information might be valuable for you and others.

  13. Just got my new uk passport needing visas transferred, and the second renewal of my marriage visa extension is due 24 January. Will immigration do all this at the same time ? I have a number of detail questions relating to this as follows:

24 th is a Sunday so do I have to go by Friday 22nd?

There is a proforma form signed by embassy requesting immigration transfer visa to new passport which I have to fill in myself. Mostly self explanatory but where it says "date entered thailand " is that the original date I came in on the visa or the date I returned from trip abroad in August?

On type of visa do I put non immigrant O or should I add "marriage" as well?

Will I need to have copy of my old passport as well as the new one ( which being new will just be one page)?

Can I use the 3 photos of wife and I in the house from last year or will I need new ones?

My last 90 day report was 9 November with the next report date shown as matching date of visa extension expiry which is less than an additional 90 days . I presume it resets itself from date of new visa ?

I'm familiar with the other usual documentation needed ( marriage certificate, wife's I'D card, house book ,income letter etc) but would be grateful for guidance on the points I mentioned that I'm unfamiliar with. I'm changing from money in bank option to income letter this time so do they still need my bank book?

Korat is my office ,so if any additional specific points I haven't asked comes from anyone with recent experience there I am also grateful.

  14. My annual marriage visa extension is due on 23 January and I got my income verification letter from uk embassy dated 11 November. I did it then because it is valid for 6 months and because my income is based on rental of my uk home, but from the end of October the tenants moved out and don't expect to find new ones until sometime next year. However I subsequently found out that as my passport expired in August 2016 any visa extension would only apply up to its expiry date giving me only 7 months. So last week I submitted an application at Trendy for a new passport. I've just noticed that the letter quotes what will become my old passport number when new one arrives. Is this likely to cause any problems at immigration ? If so can I get the embassy to reissue the letter with my new passport number? Will it have to be an entirely new application requiring up to date bank statements ( they asked for last three months previously) because that will be a problem as no rental will have been paid in since end September (rent is paid one month in advance) . However as the net rental income was £3000 (150,000 baht month) per month since October 2014 it only takes just over 3 months rent to reach the required annual income. Periods of unoccupancy are normal,it's just that it falls in this instance at an inconvenient time if a snapshot of 3 months is used to determine annual income. Grateful for advice from the knowledgeable members like Ubonjoe.

  15. My 2nd extension of my marriage visa is due 23 January and my UK passport expires 16 August 2016. I've read about transferring stamps to new passport in other posts from which I assumed you don't need a full year left on your passport to get the years extension. I met someone who said he had an issue with retirement extension (although he had less than six months) at Korat immigration telling him he needed the full year left. This is my office so would be grateful of clarification. Any other points I should note re this gratefully welcomed. I understand that I need letter from embassy requesting stamps transfer to a new passport of my original assumption is correct ?

Can I use same old photos of us in/out house as last time?

  16. I'm trying to do my online report again having successfully done my first one last time. I'm putting the extranet.immigration.go.th/pibics/online/tm47/TM47Action.do into the address bar (it was saved in history) but I keep getting webpage not available, timed out message. I've tried manually retyping it into the address bar on both Chrome and Safari on my iMac computer as well as on the iPad with the same result. Tried last two days. Any suggestions?

    https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do

This is working for me, I just tried it. It is slightly different from the one you posted here. You might try it.

Yes,that worked so obviously they've changed it as pointed out below. However entering details on the form is very slow but eventually got My details on in first page including captcha password but nothing happens when I hit the submit button (several times) either when the cursor is a hand or arrow. I did scroll down to see a repeat of the early accept/decline button but that is inactive (possibly because I'd ticked accept on the opening page) . I've tried redoing the process but eventually it just goes to an empty white screen?

Did you remember to turn off your pop-up blocker?

I'm not getting any notifications of the pop up blocker stopping anything and my settings haven't changed since last time . I'm just trying on the iPad now but after first couple of boxes I can't even get it to enter my Christian name,it's just slowed to the point of stopping .
