  1. It seems it’s only you manufacturing the racial element here …to suit a prejudiced narrative?
  2. I’m after a decent pair of binoculars. Last time I found some on eBay in U.K. and got them brought over, but are there any options for buying better here?
  3. Test your theory: run as fast as you can (which will still be much slower than around town)face first into a brick wall ,note the impact.. in fact it’s worse than that in a car because just as you’re pivoting into the steering wheel the airbag explodes into your face potentially breaking your neck. The myth about crashing into a river and escaping drowning is just that (a myth) in virtually all cases. Research indicates that the injuries/being incapacitated inside the car as you’re thrown by about not wearing a seat belt is far more common than a seat belt being released by the occupant and being in a better state to then egress the vehicle .
  4. Sounds like the court has found a way around fundamental simple arithmetic. Perhaps they had a consultation with U.K.'s Diane Abbott!
  5. Do you mean because this type of drunken dangerous driving is not associated with the local population? If so I’ve got news for you, look at the road death statistics (25,000 deaths per year). This is not to excuse his behavior,I hope he suffers horribly for it ,but so I do for the similar Thai drivers, something which doesn’t seem to happen. Furthermore I would suggest that any statistical analysis would likely show that proportionately ,resident farang drivers here are less likely to be involved in serious traffic accidents than the norm.
  6. Why are you suggesting a sentence more in line with premeditated murder for a road accident that was related to inattention (careless ) rather than dangerous. A momentary misjudgment with catastrophic consequences that can happen to anyone but no question of malice .
  7. There are much more sophisticated ways to use credit cards to your advantage these days as cheap loans (U.K.) interest free balance transfers . You can do an almost eternal loop with them . I’ve had well over a decade of practically free money which is invested in my SIPP /ISA which have given much greater returns than the tiny amount of occasional fees.
  8. The military mind is not best equipped to understand even the basics of economics nor marketing of an industry. It’s limited to thinking a simple reopening of a severely damaged and ravaged infrastructure is all that’s required and vague wishful thinking of a 'better class ' of tourist. They will be lucky to retain a decent fraction of the numbers of old with little will to understand the new dynamics of more expensive airfares and constrained spending currently hitting many source countries . The postponement of resuming flights to Thailand by one of Europe’s most significant airlines until further notice is a signal of reality flying above the rather dense heads here.
  9. It takes 30 days to count up to 8 starting with 2014? The maths here is worse than I thought! ????
  10. Because I’m in a bit of an outlying area with just a few other neighboring houses we have what PEA describe as an ‘emergency' meter (although it been there 4 years) and they charge us 7+ baht unit compared to 3.5 baht at our other house elsewhere. Others also pay similarly (unless they’ve a dodgy connect to someone else’s meter down the road. There is talk of at some stage when further other houses are built (further installation made?) that there’ll be a capital charge for the infrastructure and the rate will go down to normal. Anyone else have this scenario?
  11. Rather different scenario. That is the price of electricity in the U.K. reflecting basic costs /taxes which vary by country. 8 baht is a 100% uplift on what the landlord is paying- a practice which is illegal in U.K.
  12. It’s a "misunderstanding "….
  13. Not only 30% more expensive, but add in that diesel is more efficient/economical and the difference probably 50%? Take the Honda CRV SUV. Ancient 2.4 litre petrol engine or the newer 1.6 diesel twin turbo ? All those varieties however long since extinct in western markets . Thailand- Honda's dumping ground for old engines.
  14. There are cleaning additives in normal fuel. The occasional use of a premium grade fuel may additionally help
  15. I think you’ll find that contravenes data protection laws -access to sensitive information, especially of foreign governments is rightly tightly controlled. Revoking of passports for petty offences ??
  16. It will be on their record,in the country they were convicted /home country. Are you saying you want Thailand (any countries) to have unfettered access to a foreign country’s police database ?
  17. I guess this would be classified a quiet day in Liverpool.. ????
  18. It is,although widely recognised as the worlds most deadly snake is the African Black Mamba, for its speed and aggression along with nasty venom
  19. I hope you signal your ‘dismount' with something more polite than 3 beeps ! ????
  20. You appear a little touchy! How can I react to a post without reading it - some sort of logic disconnect there?? Yes,it’s a mass produced wine and ALL wine here is overpriced due to the tax regime.I’d already pointed out it was half that price in U.K. I was simply asking your opinion as to whether there are better choices HERE in that bracket.
  21. So irrelevant from the point of view of this thread -and even Thailand itself. For circa 600 baht is there anything appreciably a better choice than Yellowtail?
  22. At 600 baht I find the Yellowtail range (Australian)a reasonable compromise of price vs quality, but that’s still double the U.K. price so drink wine very rarely.
  23. In Liverpool it’s wise to assume they are by default? ????
  24. 18% Massive ? U.K. prices (and in Europe) are scheduled to TRIPLE and from a higher base, meaning average of circa £5000 per year for average house next year ! Add in that diesel is approximately 75 baht litre and I have to say the costs savings being in Thailand have increased considerably. That is not to overlook the fundamentals of Thai people being generally much poorer and the difficulties in absorbing increases being onerous. But this is part of a wider problem related to inequality and corruption which isn’t going to be solved soon ,so the short term answer is to subsidise those essentials to affordable levels.
  25. I’m shamefully aroused watching the Elephant Man. Do I need help…or an optician?
