Foreign Gang Overstays Visa, Assaults Officers in Phuket Villa Raid
gravity101 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Well yes, more to this story than a simple overstay. Wonder if they have a tax number? 'The inquiry revealed that this group of suspects are Indians. The wife of the leader is from Ukraine. Three months ago, they came to rent and buy land for a luxury villa for 500 million baht, with an area of at least 10 rai, and they lived as a family of more than 20 people, with a Thai housekeeper and a Thai gardener. An antique military vehicle is positioned as a sign at the villa’s gate, equipped with security guards and its own ambulance. There are more than 20 luxury cars inside, each with a licence plate that does not match the car’s registration, and more than 30 drones. In addition, two white lion cubs worth over two million baht, two macaws, two raccoons, and one meerkat were discovered with no proof of possession. They were confiscated and turned over to the Choeng Thale Police Station for storage and examination' -

How can they get such basic info wrong. They're definitely Indian in the photos on the fb page, if that's them sitting down. And some tattooed dude who could be anyone. Harley bikes and a hillside villa... more to this story than simple overstay. -

Should we apply to a few schools simultaneously?
gravity101 replied to STD Warehouse's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
You should apply for a few. Some schools here are oversubscribed not in terms of teachers, but also space and resources.. Contractully, good schools wont and can't expand class sizes if they can't create classes. They increase revenue in over subscribed situations by increasing fees and extras. (Or so it feels!) If you can afford and don't mind the application fee which can be considerable, apply for a few. Many schools also have a nationality quota so as to not effect the balance of the school. You should ask as although there may be a queue there may not be a queue for your kids nationality. Good luck, been through it here. My kids have been unsuccessful before, luckily they weren't my first choice schools. -
Nailed it. Those traffic pinch points will become unbearable soon. I wonder if the environmental approval includes these issues with massive condo developments.

The statute here allows for 3 to 15 for vehicular manslaughter + fines. (Section 290) Accidental or otherwise, drunk or otherwise. The problem in this country is that it can be commuted to probation by the courts (or no charges brought at all) if adequate compensation is paid (to the victims families satisfaction) either at the time of accident or during the court process afterwards if the perp was silly enough not to pay compensation quickly. This is why its so unjust here, money legally solves the problem of a custodial sentence in instances of manslaughter. It's sickening but reality.

Crazy Traffic - Only going to get worse - Phuket going to be overrun
gravity101 replied to ESLTeacher1989's topic in Phuket
I'll wait until Patong hill fully reopens before condeming Phuket. Cherngtalay and Chalong routes were taking a hammering with Patong diversion traffic and I suspect still are. Yep peak periods are nasty at the moment, but outside those times its pretty calm. In fact I did 18 minutes from boat lagoon to chalong yesterday at 8pm. (Yes we do have a 'highway' ;)) . That's as quick as its ever been. Its easy to moan about traffic, probably the same people that would moan if there wasn't modern conveniences, places to work, modern schools, water parks, malls etc. You have to expect crowds, you can't have one without the other. If you don't like that lifestyle, move to the countryside or an island with a bamboo shack and little else. -

Volvo XC60 Experience in Thailand
gravity101 replied to JuanMatus's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
My wife has a new 60. Few months old. Great car, small battery though even for a hybrid ;( I believe they are now coming with a larger battery. Had no issues so far, the 5 year free service and warranty is a bargain package tbh. The guy who came to install the charging station even sorted out some dodgy electricals in the house free of charge. Wife's happy, hardly uses the gas for school runs etc, husband not so happy as he still pays the electric bill. Would recommend. -
Chalong Pier scheduled for significant renovation including an AI system

Unless they sort out the chaotic and inadequate parking, access roads etc it'll be a waste of money.
