Smart enough to scam her out of a million baht, but dumb enough to leave her locked in a room, with access to a phone.
Maybe his smartness just comes and goes, like pain from an old war wound.

lWho is to blame here ? The Indian wearing too much gold ,serves him right. Being drunk in charge of carrying gold and being pi$$ed , could be . Thai yoofs again living on mugging folk whist living on a minimum wage ? He should of chosen somewhere else to spend his Rupees other than Pattaya. Not Samui or Phuket of course same-same but different.
Yeah, they really *should* charge the Indian for being drunk and walking alone carrying cash thus inducing criminal behavior from gangsters. Just as they should jail rape victims for not covering themselves up head to toe.

While I support a higher minimum wage, I completely disagree with this article's premise. It expresses a muddled view. A minimum wage and a wage cap are two very different things and any linkage is tenuous. A higher wage at the bottom does not necessarily have to take anything away from the top earners. One can only come to such a conclusion by ignoring the crucial factor of productivity improvements.
It is also wrong-headed to look at the effects on individual companies rather than the entire economy.
Furthermore, the article provides no data on the effects of the previous minimum wage hike. Did it lead to wage-pulled inflation or overall increase in unemployment? Did it improve productivity, or increase investment in automation? Without data, there can be no informed debate, just mindless, disjointed prognostications, as in the article.
The curious thing is that even under conditions of virtually full employment, a substantial size of the workforce is earning just subsistence wages. When you are earning so little and another job with such wages is easily had, where's the incentive to work your best? From the employers' side, when workers can be had so cheaply, where's the incentive to invest in better training or higher automation? This squeeze from both ends explains the lack of productivity growth.

s]Think before posting; think twice before deleting...
Do you often bite your tongue on this forum and delete posts you have drafted
- for fear of being embroiled in a bickerfest with half-wits and neanderthals
- for fear of moderation, and the iron-fisted boot of petty conformity
- to avoid having a thread in your recent postings page, and rereading the same offensive drivel?
You'll be grateful to know that I do
SC
SC,
Having read many of your posts, I must say your self censoring skills are commendable. If I had a modicum of those skills, I'd be only half the smartass that I appear to be on these forums..

I was in an accident. Partly my fault, but mostly the other guy's. Lady on motorbike with a two-year-old. Both without helmets. Barely scraped them, bike went off balance and fell. Kid and mom get scraped. We're near a housing estate. Ask the guard to look after the bike and proceed to drive mom and baby to nearest hospital (Chiangmai Ram). From the car, Mrs. T calls our insurance company (and the bike lady calls her husband) to wait for us where the bike is.
Hospital treats mother and child for minor scrapes. We ask the doctor to give the child a thorough examination for any internal injuries or concussion. Takes another hour. No issues found. We pay and drive everyone back to the bike. Insurance guy and husband are waiting. Husband seems more concerned with the state of the bike than family. Granted, it was clearly a brand new bike. He didn't even come to the hospital after the wife had called him to say their kid was going through tests.
Husband tried to claim exorbitant amount, finally settling on 1,000 baht as only the bike's mirror was broken and some paint scraped, with no dents anywhere on the bike.
During the negotiations, he asked me if I was a programmer. I said no, I was a lawyer. (I'm neither. I'm just a ne'er do well).
He wasn't satisfied. Finally remembered his son and said he's worried about possible long term damage. Now the mother, who's embarrassed and had apologized to Mrs. T for her husband's behavior, speaks up. He ignores her, but finally settles for a signed undertaking that if the kid shows any symptoms of head injury in the next 24 hours, we would pay the kid's medical bills at a hospital of our choosing.
With all the above in mind, would we do the same thing again in case of an accident? Yes, because it's the right thing to do.

Especially in Thailand where you have to take your sandals off when you go to a house.
Also my feet don't pick up all the dirt of the road.
"Also my feet don't pick up all the dirt of the road."
No, but your socks do, plus they would get sodden during the rains or if you trek though sewers in your wanderings. Bare feet (in sandals) can be wiped or rinsed off in a worst case scenario before entering the house. Socks would just smear it around or release the encapsulated odor of your feet and the sheep who sacrificed it's coat to make your Argyles ... no matter how trendy the salesman told you that you'd look.
I'm the cool guy on the right. Control yourselves, ladies.

Nobody has ever been 'cured' from a mental illness.
You would have better luck trying to 'cure' Gays into becoming 'straight'. It isn't going to work. People are who they are. And if a person steps outside the boundries of what is acceptable to a society, they've crossed the line.
Lock her up.
I don't hinkt "gayness" is anything like mental illness. It's like saying having a limp is like being blond.

Here's something The Moral Promotion Centre could work on. There is certainly no moral grounds, especially in the Buddhist context, but even from the New Testament point of view, for the Sate to take a life as punishment.

I knew those things will kill you--eventually.

Just my theory.

Michael Lewis' Liars Poker was published in the early Eighties. In it he described how investment banks intentionally "blew up" their clients, if it meant that would make money for themselves.
This M.O. should've been widely known since then but miraculously, the banks have been able to get away with the same M.O. for decades since.
Reading this thread, I'm gratified that the general skepticism we should have had since the early Eighties is now finally widespread.
Having said that, there is a trend of competitive devaluation going on, and surely Thailand will join the fray. I doubt though that the movements will be substantial as all sides seem cognizant of the the dangers of an all-out currency war.

As reported in the article, this is the purpose of the DNA test:
The test was intended to dispel public suspicion that the border police might be involved in the murder
And perhaps the only purpose of reopening the case?

I don't understand. Was he arrested for performing a bad parody, or for making empty threats?

*empty because his gun couldn't possibly have held enough bullets to fully carry out his threat.

I think there should be a scale inside the toilet bowls and users, upon leaving, should be charged in proportion to the weight of their deposits. The exit door only opens upon insertion of correct amount! All major credit cards and Apple Pay should be accepted.
That would be fair.
