  1. Another pearl clutcher extraordinaire. That's a whole heap of words about something that just isn't happening. I've followed this thread from the beginning and the only thing I can find to even slightly support you is one poster saying 'I am not glad that he was not murdered'. Where are all the posts saying "Too bad the assassin missed'? If anything the VAST majority of posters who don't like Trump are being their usual conciliatory selves and condemning every bit of this. As they should be. As usual, you right-wingers are putting your own projections into situations that are just not occurring in a pathetic attempt to paint all those that don't support Trump as people with 'Leftist extremist views' who condone violence. We don't, so how about YOU give it a rest?
  2. Firstly there's a substantive difference between a 'bull's eye' and 'crosshairs'. If Trump had suggested 'crosshairs' then there's only one connotation you can take from that and he would have been rightly condemned for it. He didn't but you are still trying to justify your stance by doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing i.e. saying people would be blaming Trump when you are actually blaming Biden by inferring his statement of 'It’s time to put Trump in a bull’s-eye' led to the shooting. No sane person would think this. You've even got the quote wrong. It was 'It’s time to put Trump in a bull’s-eye' not 'the'.
  3. Enough of the pearl clutching....especially when you end your nonsense with 'maybe Killary'.
  4. It's this kind on nonsense that adds nothing to the narrative. As is usual in ALL of these situations ((Reagan, Lincoln, Garfield. William McKinley, JFK, Roosevelt and now Trump), you can only draw one parallel and that's America does like to solve its grievances from the end of a gun and this like all the assignations and attempted assignations will prove to be the work of a lone gunman (or small group) and will have absolutely nothing to do with the Dems.

  6. Sorry for all the repition with the posts. System kept on saying to wait '10 seconds to post'. Maybe the moderator can delete all the repeats?
  7. Thank you for this. It's pretty much what many of us already know which is cannabis isn't for the young. But neither is alcohol nor cigarettes and both of these are regulated through age barriers to entry, so rather than throw the baby out with the bath water, just make sure age restrictions are strictly adhered to. I suspect that this will never happen though as Thaksin has a REAL thing about ANY drugs - as was evident back in 2003 when his 'war on drugs' led to 2,800 people being simply executed https://www.hrw.org/news/2008/03/12/thailands-war-drugs.

  14. Well done for remembering Obama was black however he has been the only black POTUS out of 46 and gained the office through the largest turn out of black voters in American history. All the rest have been old, white men and since whites make up over 2/3rds of the American voting population (and the majority of these are aged over 50), gambling with a black woman at this stage might be just too much to ask, hence why I said they will stick with Biden. Your other perceptions of Kamala may also hold true (I don't agree but others may) but in my opinion it's better to be a 'cackling imbecile' than the amoral crook you support.
  15. The main dilemma is the obvious replacement should be Kamala (can take the campaign donations and she is VP after all) but we have seen how little appetite America has for a woman POTUS never mind a black woman (Americans do love old, white men after all). The racists and misogynists would be out in droves, which could cement a Trump presidency unless women and minorities come out in equal if not greater droves. And if they choose anyone else then there will be chaos at the party convention as black voters will be mightily pi$$ed off with the Dems if Kamala doesn’t get the nomination. This alone would then hand Trump the presidency. So in summary, I think they’ll stick with Biden and keep their fingers crossed it’ll be enough.
  16. If this is your experience of the ex-pat community then may I suggest you try and widen your social circle or better still, just stay away from where these types hang out (Pattaya springs to mind). I have lived here for 15 years and have met many great ex-pats who do literally the opposite of what you are bemoaning but then again I don't choose to hang out in the kind of places I would likely bump into these people (apart from the odd night out in Nana). I'm active with a lot of ex-pat groups mainly for golf and the vast majority of these people are culturally sensitive, most speak the language and a lot have successful businesses here and are married to Thai ladies and have a Thai family. I would suggest it's just where you hang out as if you hang out in seedy areas/bars then expect to bump into a few seedy individuals, but I would suggest this is the same the world over. Change your scene and the people will change too.
  17. That's not what it means at all. Or at least to the VAST majority of English speakers. ghet·to - a poor urban area occupied primarily by a minority group or groups.
  18. I live in Thonglor. I can assure you it isn't a 'ghetto'. Or if it is it's the poshest one I've ever lived in.
  19. Talking of cognitive bias..............
  20. Absolutely spot on. I see this a cognitive bias quite a lot on this forum, especially when talking politics. If someone wants to see a problem, they will and it just feeds into their negativity. I have been in the same situation with street hawkers like the example Bob gave, but rather seeing it as indicative of a whole nation, I see it as an individual at the bottom of the social order (they are street hawkers after all) who is just unhappy and perhaps (although of course this is pure speculation) with problems of their own. They are not particularly representative of Thais but Bob is looking for examples to back up his rather obvious bias so he sees the situation in a completely different way than others (myself included) would.
  21. Agreed but I also think there is real concern about rising sea levels and the prediction that Bangkok will be under water by 2050. I see very little being done about this by successive governments who, as usual, are kicking the problem down the road for others to solve. This is one of the main reasons I will not buy in Bangkok and why I rent instead. Sea Level Rise Projection Map - Bangkok | Earth.Org
  22. There should be one VERY obvious reason why Trump should never see the inside of the Oval Office again and it's all about Project 25. For those unfamiliar with what this is then please take some time and watch the video below. It's handled in a humorous manner but it is deadly serious if it ever happens. I would also like to hear any Trump fans who think they can defend this.
  23. That's not what 'generalisations' infers but I suppose you not knowing that kinda supports the second part of your statement.
