I lived 4 years in Vietnam where this activity was a VITAL part of the society. The recycling ladies on bicycles more often had bigger smiles than many other people... knowing they will not freeze to death, knowing that even though they are unemployable, no family, no governmental safety net, maybe not even a roof over their head, they could still eat and survive. This could not be done in the USA / Canada / UK etc...
