please note, that only Goverment schools are involved on this issue. Private schools still can employ Foreign Teachers.
And as most foreign teachers are employed at language institutes, private schools, universities or in the corporate sector, they will be entirely unaffected by this. But it does make for a good story and a popular thread!
More people competing for fewer jobs.....guess what that means in Thailand?

Nimman is actually a lot better during the week, as are a lot of places...Lake Tahoe and San Francisco come to mind. Too many people with personal issues and prison mentality out on Saturdays. The possibility of getting a warm beer alone, is almost grounds for disqualification imo. Not too happy with Leos from Songkran, either, but that is more of a specific dirty deal not all participate in.

If u want dividend you have to check the NVDR box, unless the account is in a Thai name.
The email they sent me about the XD, states that property funds, REITS, and unit trusts will pay regardless. It also looks like you have three days for them to correct this type of error (converting to NVDR) "T+3." In my case, the XD tomorrow is for IMPACT, which clearly seems to be a Property Trust.
I'm a little disappointing that their system allowed me to potentially buy shares, where I would not get a dividend, which is the case of the other two I bought, unless it automatically put me in foreign shares, which I doubt. I played small, with good reason.....I sat there for two hours filling out forms, and answering questions.....this seems like a major issue that they, and their software did not address. But, there software was good enough to send me an email at 20:40 on the eve of XD, telling me that I wasn't eligible for the dividend unless it was a property or unit trust....Welcome to the land of shoot yourself in the foot.

Boxing Arena is one stop schooling on why to not open a bar. How many of those places are for sale, as I type? I haven't bought a beer in there in more than five years.

I set up a KimEng account and bought some shares. Can anyone tell me the ins/outs of dividend reinvestment. Is there a box I check somewhere? Will they ask me? and whatabout "NVDR? I didn't check the box, so I assume I bought voting shares. Is this important? THX!

Great prices - obviously set to maintain market presence!
Can't survive long on that kind of profit margin unfortunately.
Glad to hear about it though.
Yes, attitude adjustment may just have to involve hitting the scene a lot earlier than before.
No problem, right?
Anyone know how to research the changes in beer consumption (post anti-CM) and the impact on national brewers?
Really? I could have sworn I was paying less than 7-11 prices at Dayli for 10 years. Brah, Brah samesame, and a number of others. The Game was "upmarket"...or at least priced its beer like it was. It didn't end very well.
There's an old Chinese saying, "He that sell beer at double price; will sell furnishings at half price."

Dayli is doing 3 for 120, Leos, tonight special promotion.

I don't see why anyone of any age and with a cultured taste couldn't share floor space with people of different ages. That's a strange concept for westerners. ... but not for Asians
The thing is....Asians don't think much of western ideals per se because they are not cross generationally oriented and someone gets left out
Family and community first - then self
Stereotype much?

but if the lowest priced card isn't chip protected, that would be penny wise and pound foolish.

I have a Mae Ta Dee, and no debit card....I don't recall if it was offered, so I can't clarify that for you. Overall that may be the best account to have...especially in the lower interest rate environment. We'll see if the 1.8% will continue...I have seen some slight upticks in rates, elsewhere, after a rapid decline.

agreed...and it seems to last more like a week. Very difficult to get stuff done.

April is the worst month to be here. Police presence is 5X, driving is pure insanity. Go for it.

Many here don't realize how small the backpacker's budget is. I've tried to help a few find a place, occasionally, and one would think that 300 for a/c, TV, security in a good location would meet the budget needs of any farang traveler, let alone a couple. But no, too expensive, even though that is less than the taxes would be on a hotel room in the US or Europe...I just checked Motel-6 in Nogales....not exactly a fashionable destination...taxes one night; 272 THB, room 2161 THB.....So their room budget is about 100 per night per person.....just how many 120 THB drinks made with cap-fulls of liquor are they going to buy? Maybe one more than the Thais, who aren't going to buy any. They and their Chinese cousins will go to the places, where they can bring in their own bottle.

New rules went into effect about a year ago...more anti=money laundering stuff. Rollovers are easy at BKK Bank, and very profitable for them, because if you sign up for a 5, 7, or 10 month promo rate, what it renews to will be about half of what the competition is offering. That's why you want to go in there the day it matures and get another promo, or get ready to take it elsewhere.

DEMCO
down on heavy volume, today...almost 85 million volume. Where would you buy?

CIMB is doing a 2.15% for 1 year for those 55+...they told me a farang could do it, I haven't verified it....
they told me i had to have a work permit,i told them i am retirered,in that case we want your uk.address,i told them ???? ??.the mall korat.
I got this last time some funds matured. So even though I already had an account open they would not open up a new rate in the same book without following a printed off list of requirements - which included UK address supposedly had to be notarised or certified in some way...............
I got FDs without WP...I'm not yet 55, so couldn't verify that. US Citizen, so now just have to fill out IRS forms. Their speed savings pays 1.8% if you have 1 million+....Krungsri's savings is fairly tough to beat....but I got 3.2 x 13 month at CIMB earlier this year...TMB says WP required....haven't tried showing them my Yellow Book, but I didn't like their attitude.

It seems like northbound, thru traffic would use the canal rd., and bypass the whole mess, somewhat.

If the rent is too high, a place could easily have a negative value. Player's had very good reviews....night and day vs. the Game...I wonder what the rent is.
The Players bar has 7 out of 16 Tripadvisor reviews that are all Excellent, from reviewers with 1 contribution!
John's Place has 47 that rate it "poor" or "terrible."

"just ask a tuk-tuk driver".....just about the worst piece of tourist advice given in Thailand, and all too common. Freelance, bargirl, massage girl, or even girl scout would be a better person to ask about the whereabouts of anything. Tuk-tuk make a living by giving rides, and make even more if that ride is to somewhere they will receive a kickback. I've seen them threaten other Thais for giving walking foreigners directions. Red Songtaews are saints compared to the suk-suks...and of course theyre not all bad, but.....
