  1. If they had simply put the money in index funds.....a lot of the union people would believe anything their union told them....lots of corruption in the pensions....seen it happen over and over.

  2. Sorry Gonzo and perhaps I havent done the research but any financial guru I take with a grain of salt.

Its not always a tall poppy syndrome but I cannot believ all what these people say.

Im also not a racist and I as a outsider cannot believe what I hear about Obama. Is he any different that other presidents of the USA? In some ways yes but has he done a worse job than his predecessors? I think not.

My opinion is that Barrack had the right idea/push but the American bureaucrasy fakd it all up....how surpising.

Your insight into America is almost as interesting as Landtrout's week long stay at the Santa Monica YMCA, but neither you, nor it, know squat about America. So just keep drinking that warm beer, and proclaiming your acceptance into free Thai health care. but those of us, who are true Americans; couldn't care less. My great-great grandfather was actually an Englander...must have been a sex tourist. Him and his brother came over and impregnated two young indian women. Probably explains why I am disease free, and not bald...however, it is quite obvious that the German side of me is four times smarter, and we've even learned how to drink refrigerated beer, or should I say "refrigerate beer."

  3. something like 85% of Coloradans live within 20 miles of I-25...it's along that corridor.....One hour from Colorado Springs, 2 hours from Denver...you can legally buy an ounce of smoke in Colorado for 350 USD, or you can buy one illegally in Tucson for 50 USD...go figure. Colorado Springs is a big HQ for many Christian groups, so most of the gays would be in Denver, but seeing that Colorado State U. (Ft. Collins) has a lot of women's sports teams, you can bet on the Fred Flintstone haircuts being popular there, too, just like Tucson. Ft. Collins is expensive, too, similar to Corvallis or Eugene.

  4. California and Nevada aren't Republican states.....horrible public schools....Also, quality of schools can vary dramatically in 10 miles. TJ High School in Virginia is always near the top of national rankings, yet is less than Democrat controlled DC Public Schools, which are about as bad as it gets. In fact, any of the high tax, democrat controlled, big cities will have horrible schools....including San Francisco, LA, Detroit, Atlanta Chicago.

I'll let you find a list of the best universities in the world. It will be dominated by US institutions.

  5. Because it suits some people to live out in the suburbs. Having a garden is a big plus for me,Every time I go into town I can taste the traffic fumes .City living not for us, having the convenience of owning a car is great, much more freedom.Driving here is easy and fun.

coffee1.gif reads like an ad for Prozac.

  6. Hilarious, that just about sums it up. There is so lack of life there that the residents are known as the lost civilization.

When I lived out that way there were plenty of places to go (I named 3) ....... but talented and young Thai bands.

I guess you guys all want a bar with loads of old white guys drinking in it .... and failed western musicians endlessly trying to play western 70s rock music.

There used to be what I call a night restaurant not far from the police station with cheap Thai food, beers, a male Thai singer and the traditional coloured fairy lights hanging outside.

10 years ago, went in there one evening with my girlfriend. The male singer was trying to sing the Roy Orbison classic, Crying. Instead of singing crying, crying, crying, over you, he couldn’t pronounce the RRs and sang, clying, clying, clying, over you. It was just like what happened in an episode of Only Falls of Horses I once watched only this was for real. Then I decided to use the men’s room. Failed to see the sharp end of a nail protruding from inside the wooden table, as I stood up the nail caught my trousers and ripped them down from the knee almost down to my ankle.

When we got home after 15 minutes my girlfriend dived into the toilet, she had the s**ts and was throwing up all night. In that restaurant I ordered a chicken dish and my girlfriend had the tam tim fish. I put it down to the fish was off. Needless to say that was the first and last time we went in there.

It would be more newsworthy if they didn't sing "clying, clying, clying."

  7. I don't think we can have a thread about Hang Dong without mentioning "The Game;" a world class sports bar....with free tea refills, and a kid's menu. Catering to the new upper middle class of Hang Dong's highly sophisticated, soi dog infested, moo baans.

  8. I see the Dog and Bone was finally euthanized. It is now the Thai Euro Bistro...gigglem.gif I think HD is still a plastic stool in front of 7-11 or mom/pop...like the good ole days. Last time I was at HD Market I think I saw 20 good lookers that were less than 20 years younger than me. Good pickens, for sure. One of the few places on the planet, where it is still good hitchhiking, because everyone knows the yellows don't run late, and the TukTuks are rubbish.

  9. I was checking out this Isaan girl's personal profile (online) the other day. It stated ages 30 and up, "No English Teachers." So apparently, they are becoming skeptical of the value of English Teachers, even in Roi Et.

  10. Pretty funny, Nancy. I've been through the same drill. Shell was better for me as it is very close to Dayli, which is where I was going anyway, and always was able to get to KSK for 20, but they would say 100 THB to Dayli....everytime they dropped me off at KSK, they would keep going west, until at least the Shell....It just doesn't register for them. I'm more likely to get off at KSK and cut through the building, by the hotel and out the back into the Sirigarnlankagarn Neighborhood, which puts you very close to the Nimman area. I wonder if H4 residents must pay a premium to get up there, and maybe they think you are an H4 resident looking for a standard fee to get to H4, when you say Shell Station. You might as well say QT or Exxon, because it is almost guaranteed they will act like they don't know what you are talking about. That entire strip of HK is infested with both unscrupulous TT and ST after dark.

BTW, from anywhere on Suthep, even way up by CMU, it is very easy to get one to take you to Tha Phae Gate...for 20...and usually they will bisect the Old City. The biggest downside is them dropping off in Nimman, and getting in heavy traffic, but that won't happen if you are just east of Nimman. Airport Plaza almost always gets a grunt or groan, unless they are already going that way, then they will even do it for 20...we'll see if the Nimmman extension makes getting through there easier, or even possible, without going to the moat for two u-turns.

  11. Would this be possible for an English speaker. It looks like they take O-Net in P-6, M3, M-6...but it also appears that far fewer take it in M6, is that because many drop out of high school, or the M6 students take the GAT if they are college bound. Or do the college bound take O-Net, GAT and PAT....is any of it in English besides EFL? If it is all in Thai..do any of the cram schools prep students for this? I always see IELTS or TOEIC, and even SAT....but don't recall about O-net etc...I know the "Satit" at CMU has a billboard out front, showing their O-Net scores, so as always, the test scores are an excellent marketing tool for the schools, and even real estate agents in America...

  12. Most of the expats I see hanging around KSK are male. Looks like it's part of the daily routine for many.

perhaps that explains the numerous reports of "working girls" at KSK....or perhaps that explains why there are lots of males "shopping" at KSK. I think that BKK Bank branch is deep rooted in the expat community.

  13. One for the ladies, well done.

Sorry, if the topic didn't mesh with your upbringing in a poor UK neighborhood...A few weeks ago, I posted the best FD rates in CM. Might as well of been addressing a graveyard...oh wait a minute...I was.....but the semi-anual "where to buy bedsheets" will get 50 replies...with at least four explaining the big sale they have twice a year in the basement of AP Plaza, that has actually been going on the entire 12 years that I have been coming here.

  14. I will give Rimping a better rating than Tops, in several areas. I was discussing Promenda with a friend yesterday, and I told him the only reason to go to Prom, would be to run into Rimping and get some cold Heinekens, with the car double parked and running on the curb....might be true for Maya, as well.
