  1. I am looking at 2 cars I would like your thoughts on these choices. ..especially the long distance seat comfort and Reliability.

    1. 2004 Toyota Vios E 1.5 L. 116.000 km. Asking 190.000 thb

    2. 2006 Honda Jazz. 125.000 km. 1.5 L. Asking 250.000

    Thank you! >

  2. I was going to buy a new car with financing .. But the dealership wanted a work permit.. And I am here on an OA visa. So then they suggested my thai wife own the car and for some odd reason my pension is magically sufficient. No!

So... Does anyone have experience with "rent to buy" a car here? If so.. Suggestions on where please.. In Krabi or Phuket area. Thanks.

  3. Crime in Thailand has never worried me.. I lived in Chiang Mai City for about 15 months and have travelled to many areas. I cane across several mentions that crime in Phuket is very high due to drug use etc etc. Outside of Patong area.. any truth to this? Or things are basically same same as the rest of Thailand ?

  4. Thanks very much for the replies.. The Chalong circle mentioned is bad.. Because of construction.. Or just bad all the time? As a side note I define "crazy expensive" as an regular Thai meal costing more than 200 baht.

  5. I might live on Phuket for a while.. 6 yo 12 months. I know it's one of the more expensive areas in Thailand.. And tourist restaurants are crazy expensive. I digress...

Of the 3 coasts.. My feelings are that the west is too crowded and the most expensive.. The east.. More Thai but flatter and no nice beaches... The southern coast might be to my liking... Rawai Beach area.. I have never been. Besides expensive and crowded.. Plus Mafia taxi prices.. What are the pros and cons if Phuket living? Cheers in advance.

  6. I have visited both areas but only for a few days. I will be renting a house for 2 months in Khanom very soon. Then go back to Phang-nga area to do the same and decide which is the best place for me.

Has anyone here by chance lived in either if these places? The big difference is easy.. Walking to.. Beach Access in the Khanom area. Thoughts about people.. Prices. ... Climate.. Etc. Thanks

  7. If you're  U.S. citizen and not a permanent resident in Mexico, if you want an O-A visa, you need to apply in the U.S.

U.S. citizens, yes, get a 30 day stamp upon arrival in Thailand with no visa needed.

Yes it's possible to convert a 30 day stamp to a 90 day O visa (not an O-A) in Thailand and then to apply for your first annual extension based on retirement. (No O-A ever needed.

Very interesting information. In the past I have secured 60 day tourist visa and 1 year o-visas. This O visa.. 90 days sounds good too.

Since I need to do a 90 day address report anyway.. Might just skip the O-A route... Which I qualify for.

I am also legally married to a thai.. So I also have that option.. But again.. 90 day reporting... AND my wife.. AND the house book!

So it boils down to cost. Is there significant savings with one particular non immigrant visa? Cheers!

  8. I am looking at O-A options. Again. I will be in Mexico when I depart for Thailand.

    1. If I apply at the consul in Mexico then all I need is my social security letter stating income... Or needs to be certified by USA consul first? 2 years ago in Los Angeles I only presented the ssa letter.

    2. If I arrive in Thailand a us citizen gets 30 day entry. Yes? Then I can apply for my long stay visa?

Pros and cons of these will be much appreciated.. Thank you.

  9. yeah, im ecstatic that my ex and my child may have to leave the US to satisfy a few petty  who seem to believe they are entitled to stay in thailand.

over 20 years in thailand and i have NEVER had a visa issue. it really isnt that difficult.

The Thai Visa system is awful. I have an O-A visa.. Must Check in every 90 days.. Online reporting often does not work. Only valid for 2 years upon renewal. Cost is not cheap.. Adds up over 10 years! Thailand needs to welcome retirees better!

  10. My first O-A visa was obtained on Los Angeles.. 2 years ago..  and for financial info I presented a letter from the USA SSA. Is this letter still ok to present as my monthly income? I am currently on a 60 day tourist visa in Thailand and I see that the requirement now is an affidavit from the bkk embassy as to my income. This seems odd.. Since the letter should.. Should... Be sufficient. Has anyone here got by with no affidavit? Thanks. I

  11. Hello Happy Campers in Thailand. I was living in Chiang Mai for 15 months in recent years and now I am returning to Thailand for a 3 month holiday.

This trip will be about beaches, a few girls, a little beer and hopeful not too expensive. What are your thoughts/recommendations on your favourites town that has: pretty beach(es), a few bar girls available, serviced apartments for about 10,000 thb /month and is just a nice vibe to it?

    Cheers in advance. John
