46 minutes ago, Bangkok Barry said:Does anyone find it strange that, for most of the year since the pandemic began, Thailand recorded almost no cases. Now, suddenly, we are told of countless people coming over the border illegally, Thai and Burmese, and spreading the virus. Now, suddenly and in numbers. There were very few such instances that we were told of before, and now it's almost a tsunami. Why? What has happened? Has the border suddenly become more porous?
Is it not perhaps that border jumping has been going on all the time but over the time covid-19 has spread in Myanmar and exponentially in recent months making it inevitable it too would jump the border?

I'm sorry if I have created a topic that has unleashed some friction !
My news is that after several hours my attempt to change format from exFat to NTFS has resulted in a failure notified by Win 8.1 informing me that it was "unable to complete the formatting".
At this time I have not yet attempted to see if it is now a hybrid ex-krap !
For those who have an interest I do suspect it is not genuine because an attempt to access seagate product support using what appear to be serial numbers or product numbers are not recognized.
However I have found that is not uncommon for many products sold in the Asian market using US based home sites because I have been lead to believe that Chinese factories have " many doors to assist the production capacity to flow outwards" ! ????
I will try again tomorrow as my patience has been tried sufficiently for today.
If I have success I will provide link detail to product purchase origin.
I should add that if I had not had need to use this on a Linux os I think there would be no issues.

In that case it's likely due to not having a partition yet. Go ahead and reformat on your Windows computer. You could keep the file as exFAT, or you could change it to NTFS if you're going to be using it between different computers.
Don't worry about any warning messages.
Ok ! Thanks. I will try that. Hve been delayed due to a power cut so now back online.

Good luck with that. I bought new stock Seagate 1TB slim drive as they were cheaper but not 500THB cheap, never again. Lasted all of a month as did its replacement under warranty. Rather than waste any more time I sucked the loss and bought a WD, still going 3 years later.
Noted !

Before someone asks I AM using usb3 to usb2 input which I know has caused some confusion with drives if usb3 port is used.

On your Linux machine- open a Terminal window from your applications menu. On Ubuntu and similar Linux distributions, type the following command and press Enter to install the appropriate packages. You’ll have to enter your password, too.
sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils
On other Linux distributions, use the appropriate software-installation command or open the graphical user interface and look for the “exfat-fuse” and “exfat-utils” packages. They may be called something a bit different — search for “exfat” and you should find them.
After you’ve installed the appropriate software, you can just connect an exFAT drive to your computer and it will be mounted automatically.
If it’s already connected, just unplug the drive and plug it back in.
For Windows, go ahead and reformat. You can still use exFAT - it has no 4GB file transfer limit so it's a little better for larger file types.
Thanks for that. Unfortunately my Linux os already has the utils but still will not access the drive. But on Windows OS is no problem. Given the warning contained I am wondering if it is a "genuine" risk to change format or if it just some propagandist thing in defense of Windows/ Microsoft compatible with exFAT.

I notice Zagor put the question and seems to have run ! ????

Have just purchased a Seagate drive as described via Lazada. On a Linux system is detected but can not read or write to because it is formatted exFAT.
Read a Windows system it contains a "read before use" warning to NOT reformat which will render it useless. Is that true or bogus in anyone's knowledge or experience?
It was only a little over 500 Bht ( old stock) but my most used OS is Linux which can handle NTFS .

Such opinion/prediction/forecast in terms of overall outcome is and has been consistent for at least the last decade.
Trump's original 2016 election campaign catch call was in recognition of the evidence. Unfortunately his "rally around the flag" MAGA tactics have only accelerated the inevitable as it has further stressed and weakened alliances across the board. The US is not becoming less. It is just being overtaken due to the development of not only China.
If the dissemination of democratic principles is deemed appropriate for peaceful world order and a shift in economic strength occurs as a result then the US need recognize it's sense of responsibility in place of continued assumed superiority.

If it gets to the point of another Govt. shutdown I hope Trump is informed of the fact that the keys to the Presidential Limos have been misplaced , Air force One & Two are denied refueling, and a few old old fat guys who patrol car parks at Walmart are now his Security Detail !

The leaked documents are from concerned CHINESE citizens working in the healthcare industry. Are you saying the Chinese Healthcare workers are US propagandists?
"leaked documents" provided (directly ? ) to CNN . A video clip fronted by a Republican member of Congress deflecting from the abysmal failure of his GOP at a time of political need to save face?
I am not defending CCP. I am questioning the motivation behind the deflection and the continuation of untruths in the process. Telling lies about lies simply buries the truth ever deeper.

You have to be pretty gullible to believe China. I mean, everyone in the world knows the propensity to lie. Even the Chinese people know. ???? But seems you have not caught in yet?

Sadly amusing to see that the "debate" has not altered much !
Well done Boris for achieving a deal with a Sunday to spare!
Now that (as a previous poster put it) the end of the beginning is done and the term "Brexit" is redundant no doubt the customary wrangles of opinion will surface yet as to the impact but hopefully under a new title!
Four years of media bashing needs the change.
My prediction is that UK defenders and dissenters will find some common ground in the rough ride ahead as the pinch is applied !
Good Luck and Seasons Greetings .

Was the man charged with the murder found dead in Surat Thani, or was it the person he killed ? Surely a professional reporter should be able to side step such ambiguity !
The headline does create some confusion ! But a read of the item reveals the facts . Either badly worded or deliberately.

Can only hope confidence wins ! The streets and roads do seem to be a lot quieter than same time last week so maybe people are scared enough to voluntarily accommodate good sense without need for drastic action?

Ah, fair enough.
There is some suspicion about frozen or refrigerated food packaging potentially harboring the virus. Other than China claiming they have detected it on packaging I have not seen any overall confirmation but it is accepted as possible. Eating food that may have it in/on is not considered a risk.

I doubt any small car that hits the back of a heavy truck at speed would fare any better than an MG as it goes under the tray and then impacts the rear axle.

53 minutes ago, Ventenio said:The system creates this dehumanization. Like in America, people come in illegally, work for nothing, abused, raped, killed, and it's because the system won't allow them to come in any other way. The system calls them "illegals" for a reason, to make them less of a human. You want to change things? Bring them in legally, pay them properly, and get them all the necessary paperwork. Why not? money is made and they have leverage over these workers if they step out of line. Power and money....that's not going away soon.
What you suggest is of course correct in a sense. Unfortunately the main flaw in the concept is that if that were to become an enforced situation then it would negate the demand for migrant workers to large degree.
If all migrant workers were legalized, paid properly, provided all the legal and social rights afforded by being legal and legitimate thus protected from abuses then the advantage of employing them would become marginal in preference to genuine citizens. The core issue is that migrant workers are cheap and abused generally for the purpose of maximum profit with minimal responsibility or liability sanctioned by indifference to the fact. The leverage exists already.
