These types of interactions are there. I think part if it is the bar scene here. Guys are used to sitting at a barstool near other guys and expecting a conversation.
I also interpret some if it as gay, but it depends on the guy. It's always at the back of my mind.
I have no probs with gay people only those old guys my age who put on acting decrepit with limps and walking sticks and they moving slow ,some are 50yo and act 80

Just wondered why you chose there knowing about the small rooms.
I stayed in VT2B a month and was glad to get out.
It's good to experience this.
Long term I know it wouldn't suit he.
I can't live in shoebox noisy rooms , I live in a noisy place back in Australia but I regard that as temporary until retirement
But if I was going to retire I think Pattaya wouldn't be part of it anymore

What happened to the boxing regiment.
I joined Tony's ,they have punching bags ,but it's been so hot I only lasted 5 minutes
I didn't think I needed a A/Con gym but it looks I do
Most of the time I'm the only one in Tony's Gym
I will have to go there at night time to use the bags though
I can't let my fitness go because of the heat
I walked from Jomtien Rompho yesterday to Central Festival, wasn't easy but I did it

I have come to the conclusion after 2 weeks here that there are many lonely guys here expats living in hot shoebox rooms ,
I have had to start using my headphones to deter lonely people AND attention seekers
Attention seekers are guys who look for you and try to get a reaction
One guy sitting next to me on a banana chair trying to impress me that he can speak thai , shouting in the phone then looking to see if I'm looking
I sit outside in view talay apartment reading my books right in a corner chair well AWAY from others only to get some one who wants to sit next to me ,all the way out of the way from the pool, only me sitting there doing my statistics and data study and still get a farang sit next to me and proceed to shout on a phone call in Thai.!
I then had to get my headphones out or move, he then got angry tapped me on the shoulder ' hey buddy do you know what time it is ?
Lonely guys ,please don't make a expat life exciting if you are living in shoe boxes looking to attention seeking for lonilessness
Life here in Pattaya doesn't look exciting to these old bored expats
I'm here to read my books not have get into conversations or hear your whinging stories

They work on a days pay, ( I still think the agents 'friends' do it ) also you have to pay a professional carpet cleaner, and not allowed to do it yourself with a hired one.
Don't blame yourself Brian ,your not a cleaner ,your a Scholar !

Yep. Especially when fare itslef is peanuts.
I recently rode a nice new Grab car to Aranyaphrayet. The way I did it was I took a 100 baht ride and once I scoped out the driver, offered him the Grab fare of 2500 cash "off the books". I was at the border 3.5 hours later, and he let us smoke weed on the way, so he had a 3000 baht ride.
Plus whatever he snagged on the way back.
How much is it normally to that destination?

I had a lovely Grab driver recently, although I have started using Bolt as last night it was half price from the beautiful FLYBIRD condo to Jomtien being 104 baht compared to Grabs 194b
But that's another story and please don't try to side track me away from that !
Anyhow to cut a long story short the Grab driver showed me out of a 140 fare he only made 80 baht ,a teacher by day and driver by night using his own Toyota vios
I was quite surprised at how little these angels make
And to me who certainly doesn't have the wisdom or the glory or the bravado to ride a motorcycle then they are angels in the wind to us !
Who if I may ask can recall many years ago of being *forced to grovel to baht bus drivers to go places or pay the huge taxi prices that these charlatans demanded from us peasants !
These angels such as Grab and Bolt drivers deserve to have a higher percentage of takings !
I also noticed far less motorbike taxi drivers and stands , which selfishness I display I don't give a damn about !
They were dominate charlatans floating in a sea of red vests dominating their authority
I will add...and please don't hesitate to quote me ..but I'm do feel guilty when I do hope on a Grab motorbike taxi for the sometimes very low price if 24 baht !!!!!
They take it from my bank account I don't need to pay cash ..but...being feeling guilty of putting my big rear hind cheeks in a motorbike taxi I slip 20 baht cash in a tip usually to these Angels
I have to tip im sorry but I have to tip anyone working for a lousy 24 baht !
How many I ask if one could sit that butt for no more
How many I ask and yes it does happen mostly from backpacker but you sit on a BOlt motorbike taxi for 25/30 baht and don't tip but realise in your cognitive function that years ago you were paying the red vests charlatans double !
I must admit being a honest not disengenous that once last week I did not tip a motorcycle taxi from Royal Plaza to Tonys gym the Grab qouted fare of ...28 baht ... because of his abrupt driving actions ...28 baht ...now recall 10 years ago that would of been at least 50baht
They take it out of my bank account!!!
Thankyou angels ,thankyou !!!!!
I have only had ONE bad experience with BOLT when I ordered a Yellow & blue taxi turns up ,I was quite surprised as usually I get a *normal " car
, during the ride he tells me that the 74 baht that Bolt quoted is not enough he needs another 100 as it's not enough for fuel
I have written personally to the CEO of Grab to thank him / her for their angels in disguise, they are the angels
May I ask if anyone knows if Uber owns Bolt ?
And where is Bolt based ?

The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand expresses its deepest condolences to the family and many friends of Colin Hastings, a longtime FCCT journalist member.
Colin died suddenly on Monday afternoon in Bang Saray near Sattahip in Chonburi province when the car he was driving hit a wall. Emergency services were unable to revive him, and he was declared dead at the scene of the accident at around 3.15pm.There were no other casualties.
A veteran British journalist with Fleet Street experience, Colin arrived in Bangkok in 1973, and worked on numerous publications with the Bangkok Post and at Media Transasia. He went on to become the first editor of Thailand Tatler in 1991, and in 1999 launched his own expat-focused publication, Big Chilli, which he managed to keep afloat while print media all over the world went out of business.
A superb squash player, Colin was an outstanding all-round sportsman and highly clubbable. He served on the board of the British Club, and moved as easily in Thai society as he did in foreign circles.
The FCCT will publish a fuller tribute to Colin in the coming days, along with details of arrangements for his funeral.
I wonder why a Monday ?
The highest statistical data is Friday night , early hours of Saturday mornings .

I had a weird incident in VT2B where I saw an elderly foreigner guy just sitting on his bed with the door open, staring at the TV which was off. I think he was mentally ill. He never saw me, just stared straight ahead.
Also, I had a problem with a mentally ill lady trying to open my door each night. I asked security to pull up the CCTV tapes, but they knew who she was and said she was mentally ill and just did that all the time. I think they get a lot of older people who are nutjobs in the VT's. Not sure why. Maybe it's just the easiest place to end up if you're not real picky.
It reminded me of the single occupancy hotels I stayed at briefly when I first moved to new york city for school and was looking for a regular apartment. People can't afford climate control so you see and hear a lot of "humanity", open windows and open doors for ventilation, people in their boxer shorts, etc.
There are also a lot of single lonely people who kind of want to interact with other residents but don't really know how, or they don't just want to be in a closed door room and there are not a lot of common spaces and facilities to hang out in. Better places have pools, pool rooms, libraries, etc.
You absolutely right!
I think a lot here at View talay Jomtien are lonely ,your right
I had a guy walk into me yesterday, I have extremely good situational awareness, he criss crossed into me to get a conversation from me
I could tell he was lonely
Yes a few here walking around have mental illness and I would say are on some kind of disability pension from their home countries.
Sad but it's made me aware was going to retire here no way in the World would I be able to live in these shoe boxes !!!
Very depressing to see older guys end up on a bed shirtless in a 21sqm room even less in some cases .
Some with Television blaring out

They live in these shoe box type of rooms
All look bored out of their minds.
Some sit in their rooms all day with the fan going with no shirt on,their front door is wide open and you can see them laid on the bed shirtless

Well it depends what Generation of UK police you’ve imported maybe they are 49 up and have the stomach for it.Over the last 10 years the UK police has recruited so many women and wet men that could not save them selves let alone other when the 5hit goes down.
Seeing two 5ft women who look like dinner ladies driving round my area of the Black Country England makes my blood boil. All they are is clerks with body cams picking their battles so as not to get out of their depth. Every opportunity I get I take the 4iss out of these muppets for hanging around (patrolling around a high street or shopping park or Mall ) where they will likely have the backup of some,at least 50% of the public a lot would stand and watch as the police were smashed in. The Covid period taught us whose side the police were on and it was not the Publics. Arresting old grannies and those who had the balls to protest the erosion of our rights of freedom. Were we able to eat out to help out and go shopping but not gather to protest ?
They’re are in it for the pension and retirement at 50 and any of my involvement with the pigs in previous years has shown me say nothing as they will twist it to make their life easier not see justice done.
Oh and Oz is off my list of places to visit. It appears to be a leftists totalitarian state and unfortunately I can only assume the majority of Ozzies concur as thy voted that lot in , Up the Aussie Cossack!!
Yes Australia is becoming woke ....
But ... It seems the Aussies are now angry at immigration because of the housing crisis ....well too late !
The door has bolted !
Pauline Hanson said 20 years ago to STOP immigration, they all called her a racist !
I could see the future 25 years ago when they imported millions of migrants ,of course house prices would go up !
But no ...they even jailed Pauline Hanson!!!
Sent her to jail for speaking her mind
Well now the fools suffer

What's next, thread about where to buy a sandwich maker?

The OP has been seriously misinformed here. Depending on the reason for a call out, almost all UK police cars are equipped with firearms and a trained firearms officer. Unlike a certain country, the UK police do not go in heavy handed, guns blazing, to a domestic disturbance, when there is no necessity. However, there are times when armed police are in plain sight, which in most cases is a deterrent.
So the guns are in the car !
Geez you wouldn't want to do that in Australia, they would jump in and take off with the car !
I don't know about you but if your a cop attending a domestic and the offender pulls a knife , I'm not going out to the car to get the gun

Yes
I went back to a man's condo last Wednesday night.
He is from NZ , he is very foolish with his money and invited some Thai guys and their girlfriends around that he had met a week before at the markets , apparently they had market stalls
I only found out later he wanted to put in 500b to buy them beer and prawns to sharec
He later complaint to me the thai people had used him and wanted gasoline money in which one Thai guy actually asked me for , I said to him to ask Eric the guy who invited them, nothing to do with me gasoline money
Anyway Eric had run out of money and they didn't bring anything to the party he said ,we had to buy the prawns and beer ,
I told him he shouldn't of invited them over ,for what reason?
I left after one hour anyway ,they wernt keen on a conversation and kept guzzing down the beer!
The audacity of one of the Thai guys with his GF to ask be for gasoline money
I was out of there after one hour ,!
