Many of the lower socio-economic-educational demographic see consideration and politeness as weakness.

Its not that they don't remember him (the 'big tipper') - its that he failed to treat the motorcycle taxi's with a mildly polite indifference (just as Thais would) and they now see him as weak and have no respect for him.

Many expats here don't know the game when playing with those on the lower rungs of the Thai status totem-pole ' (for want of a better description)... they don't see the world the way way we do or the same way Thai's higher up the totem-pole do....

Its difficult to generalise, however many of these 'types' are uneducated formally and socially, and, especially in area's of high tourist footfall value very little in terms of 'community spirit'.

If the same guy goes back tomorrow any pays the exact 60 baht fare - they'll likely not notice.

    Excellent point you make

One must consider and PLEASE give me your expert opinions when I ask .......

Do some cultures see KINDNESS as a WEAKNESS??

  2. How does one define the word "jaded "

I describe it as becoming bitter but as I sit here on a sunbed in the rain I'm thinking of the poem a sunburnt country I think by Banjo Patterson ...but please let me get on with the story !

A farang last night told me for weeks yes we weeks not months not years but weeks...he had been going to the same group of motorbike taxi drivers outside his Condo building and using their services , apparently the fare was around 60 b and he gave them 100 a effective distinction of 40 baht tip .

Now come yesterday and please I'm not 100 per cent sure of the exact time so please don't quote me ...that he walked to the motorbike taxi stand and had a 1000 baht note or 40 baht , he apparently or should we be legal and say ... allegedly....asked the SAME group if they would take him for 40 baht as he would have to change the 1000 baht !

To put it point blankly ( if there is such a word !) they refused

Leaving this belated bitter man to walk to a 711 to change it

Now please I don't know why he couldn't of changed it on the way ....but....but ....he no longer tips , he has become jaded they don't REMEMBER, you understand....they didn't remember his kindness ,his devotion and his love 💕 for them

And PLEASE may I ...may I quote many who say they went to a particular bar and DID NOT once tip as this "jaded " situation that they never received the service they normally got? Would that be fair to say in front of a jury ?

I had a nice gal, hardest body ever.  44kg lean and Amazing.    We went out to a late lunch and her friend came with.  It was a nice place and we ate outside.  There was a bar ditch not 20 meters from our table. Had some water in it.  A public trail on the far side.  The friend was on the big side.  They ordered like 10 dishes.   I'm not keen on not eating all you order unless you plan to eat leftovers . There was at least half the food left and I was a bit bothered.  But the last straw was when a poor looking father and son walked down the path hunting for food. They saw something in the ditch and looked to check if any restaurant staff was looking then the father pounched into the ditch.  I think he caught a frog.   Right after the friend left i told this gal i didn't need a ride back to my hotel.   My plans had changed and they didn't include her.   It was feeding a pig and the food waste in a 3rd world country that bothered me.

    Kudos to you Sir👍

    You did the right thing

I have seen this happen many times over the years where invited friends or family will over order and not care

I thought you promised not to press the "Start New Topic" button anymore???

In case you forgot, permission to use that button requires at least a 3rd grade IQ level and is only intended for people who don't plunge their vapid tongue into cow dung 100 times per hour. That means it is meant to be off limits for you.

So please be polite to everyone else on AN and keep your inane thoughts to yourself.

How's the weed smoking going and the Shame you gave your mum and dad as you have said before

A son as a drug addict and Shame to the family ,you know you disappointed them

Imagine carrying that around with you that you

I feel sorry for you mate knowing you live your life in that weed forum

Never achieved anything, why did you do that to your mum  doing absolutely nothing with your life

Think about it and reflect why .

I mean understandable if you had a bad childhood but you didn't,so why

You let people go to their graves disappointed in you ,very sad life you had ,I'm sorry you don't realise the pain you gave to those

Imagine having a relative in heaven now and you know who it is , crying at your shame and disappointed

    Any areas with foreigners.

You are safe amongst the Thai's, peaceful, friendly people.

Sure you get the occasional bad Thai but from my experience, many years of living here in Thailand, it's the foreigners you got to avoid.

I wouldn't say there are NO unsafe areas

I have emailed the hotel clerk to find out exactly which area he lives in which has his so called '"bandits" demanding cash in his slum area at night that he can't go out after 9pm his words

Would you get strong arm robbed or attacked? I have never felt unsafe in Thailand except two or three times I was menaced by  farangs

In US some places unless you come to a spot buy drugs and quickly leave you would be lucky to get out  of there in your underwear.  Meaning the locals take your clothes and shoes even if they like them.

Parts of Newark NJ comes to mind.

I will try to contact this Thai guy and ask him EXACTLY where this place is  that has *bandits" after 9pm demanding 20 baht for him to go through!!

I'm fascinated by this place that this hotel clerk has to be home by 9pm because of "bandits"

And we will ALL meet there and go there for the next ASEAN members party 🎉

The problem with your technique is that time is money. You have not really received a true price or a discount. You paid for it with time and probably aggravation.

You are right Jim and the only sensible one on this forum 👌

In Breaking News..... Ozzy gets arrested and deported for constantly annoying, and complains everywhere he goes, he is being held while he gets a mental health assessment before he is deported and banned.

Unfortunately you will never go to the Philippines because you stereotype , others are taking offence at your name which nowadays could be considered racist to other cultures

Please try to go to Manila to experience the Filipino ness

  12. I have been reading some interesting books lately on Dark psychology

You will find a hustler in Asia  taxi or market stall  will raise the price if your in a hurry or they know you have no other option

One thing I love doing is booking a grab or bolt then running out of my hotel with my bags to ask the street hustler how much for the taxi to Bangkok he then ok ok ok ok

But doesn't tell me the price

    I tell him I'm in a hurry

    He then says 2500 ok

    He then calls the taxi

I wait for my real car then hop in and wave to the hustler as I go 😂
