  1. those who dislike pattaya can move elsewhere.Plain and simple!.No need to beat the poor horse if it's already dead...You came, you saw, you conquered. No need to bash and be considerate for those who like living or have to make a living there. And there are "only" hundreds of cities in the world and a several of them can last you a lifetime. Why force yourself to live in a place you don't enjoy anymore? true, Pattaya is facing overgrowth problems. The reason it floods every time it rains is that most of the city and outskirts of the city is now paved and water has no place to go. it rises and flows slow. The rising population because of "the gold rush" which creates heavy traffic most of the day, also is responsible for the bad smell and trash.but so what? there is no perfect place.I was recently in Medellin,Colombia and stayed 1 month.Perfect!..Clean, green, blue skies, mountainous, avg. temp. of 28day-time/20night-time throughout the year and lots of chicks. But no ocean :(  .Back to the topic,Pattaya isn't going downhill...Actually the whole world is!

The difference with Makati was PROBABLY that the girls etc moved to Angeles. If Pattaya closes the barbeers/ gogos there is no where else to go, and you ignore the fact that thousands of Thais would lose their incomes.

Also, does anyone actually think Pattaya will ever become a nice place to stay? Everything they do makes it a worse environment.

pinays are sweet and more fun. They all paint their nails(unlike thais) and look much more feminine.and ofc you can have normal conversation in english on top of everything.Bars in Manila don't have male servers, sketchy and pushy male characters. But I do like going to Pattaya every 2-3 months but limit my stay to 10-15 days

I understand that Tulip Group have been fired and that Park Plaza Hotels have put in their own management.

I have seen a recent letter from the new management saying that they have agreed to demolish the top 5 floors in an effort to compromise.  They have, at the insistence of City Hall, asked all buyers to sign an agreement, which will become part of the sales contract, to say that they agree to the automated car parking.

City Hall are obviously worried that Waterfronts car park will work whilst theirs does not.  Oh the embarrassment!!!

One wonders what somersaults City Hall will turn next to provide further delays.

They will own a condo or a shophouse and not be concerned if it is getting a return

I may have seen this strategy  in Investing 101 but then again,I may be wrong:P

When they are thru with the rats they can do something about the ladyboys. Or maybe the ladyboys should come first. After all when is the last time you heard of a rat pickpocketing a tourist?

I say, put the ladyboys in the same cage with the rats!:cheesy:

uhmm  maybe not... as that would be an insult on the poor rodents!

I see. No, I cant. Outside of Pattaya there are the naval beaches which are generally clean and tidy, but there is a charge for using those (and possibly dual-pricing also which is a form of greed and corruption as far as I can see).

true!.on a different note, I wonder how easy/difficult, expensive/not so, safe/unsafe, worth/not worth keeping a speed boat or a power boat in Pattaya or near Pattaya. There are plenty of islands nearby and white sandy beaches.I like to think out of the box and not restrict myself to only bars at night  and  malls during day to evade  scorching heat.

Frankly, the only appeal I see in the place, is the availability of a large selection of women for hire. Other than that, the place does not offer much from my point of view. Therefore I consider it to be a very one dimensional sort of town. I realize there are nicer beaches to the south, go kart tracks, good golf courses, etc. If someone is passionate about karting or golf, it has more to offer. But, for many of us, especially those of us who are not big drinkers, nor big supporters of the bar girls, there is simply little appeal to the place.

Once you get out of town, to the east, there are some very scenic areas. But the town itself is quite ugly and the beaches are substandard, by almost any measurement.

    agree!

In which countries? I know several stunningly beautiful places in Europe that are entirely free to access, and are well-maintained with good roads. Dropping trash there would earn you an instant fine of many thousand Baht (equiv) or potentially a jail sentence. As would conducting any sort of unregistered or unauthorised business (ie food vending, condo building etc). And no possibility of bribing the policeman issuing the ticket.

Not all countries in the world are full of greedy people who have no regard for rules or the law, though I admit that they are more numerous everywhere than they were before.

    Kitten, I rephrase my quote.

I bet no one can name a few spots in Pattaya that has not been ruined by greed, corruption, trash in the past 10 years

While it is a decent concept, it would never happen. Pattaya is now part of many Chinese tours. It is easy to get to, relatively inexpensive for the tour operators to book rooms (as there are hundreds of hotels willing to discount their rooms substantially, as long as it is not public knowledge) and they can include:

"tour of the wild crazy sex workers zone"

"see how the Thai sex industry thrives"

"witness the lives of the Thai hookers"

"come and see hundreds of lady boys all dressed up"

"visit the morally depraved zones of Sin City"

Interesting view and you are right.

while I understand why Chinese tourist are interested in pattaya because of it's proximity and the fact that it is relatively inexpensive if traveled the way they do, i just don't understand the reason why Westerners STILL insist on this part of the world especially after it got so dirty, overcrowded, lack of beach and rats on it, angry Thais who look for any opportunity to scam tourists or beat them up to bloody pulp for minuscule reasons etc etc.

I mean, They have every right to do what they want but why complain so much in these forums and still insist on this city??
