None had to pay for the government hospital or the field hospital. This could be because both the adults, teacher and parent work full time and pay Thai social security.

Thank you for your detailed follow up, it is much appreciated. The only point I would make is that international school teachers do not pay Social Fund contributions.

In the context of this discussion that is positive, as a non-contributor to the Social Fund was treated for free.

  2. It depends where you are travelling to.

If you are travelling to Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam or Yunnan province in the People's Republic of China you can take out up to THB 2,000,000.

If you are travelling anywhere else you are allowed to take out up to THB 50,000.

You need to declare your cash to a customs officer if you are taking out an aggregate amount exceeding 450,000 Baht or USD 15,000 or its equivalent.

You can find out how to do that here.

Your transit and destination countries may have their own declaration limits and procedures.

What about the other way around? Using a Thai QR code to receive money?

No. You cannot use a foreign bank app to scan a Thai QR code. It will not work. This is because international bank transfers require a SWIFT/IBAN number, and those are not embedded into a Thai QR code that is generated by a Thai banking app.

Your foreign bank app would scan the QR code, then have absolutely no idea which country in the world payment should be sent to. Don't forget that some Thai QR codes are linked to PromptPay, so all the QR code contains is a phone number.

How would a foreign bank app send payment to a phone number that doesn't even contain an international dialling code?

Am I liable for damages in this scenario?

Yes. You are completely liable. The car was stationery and your bike hit it. The fact that the car was not in a parking space has nothing to do with it. On private property vehicles are not obliged by law to be in a parking space.

You cannot blame the vehicle for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Your actions caused the damage. One question that is always asked is what if it wasn't a parked car... What if is was a child? Would it be the child's fault for standing there?

Thailand has 270 COVID-19 testing laboratories, with each lab having the capacity to test around 81,000 samples a day.

As has been previously mentioned, this equates to about 21 million tests per day. One year ago Taweesilp Wissanuyothin, the  spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health and the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration stated that with a total of 97 laboratories nationwide there was a testing capacity of 20,000 tests per day. That's about 2,000 tests per day, per laboratory.

One year later, the average testing capacity of each laboratory is about 78,000 tests per day. Believable or not? You decide.
