  1. Try telling that to the guy who says we're wrong, he clearly knows more about it than the rest of us put, RoSPA, Tufty, NHTSA et al together! Perhaps he needs pointing to some reading material.... https://www.osv.ltd.uk/green-cross-code/ (UK) https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/811026.pdf (US)
  2. In Thailand traffic should drive on the left, which means that if you’re standing on the pavement the oncoming traffic nearest to you would approach from your right. In countries where you drive on the right the advice is for pedestrians to look L-R-L, where you drive on the left it’s R-L-R.
  3. Without wanting to sound patronising, I must say that I find it refreshing for somebody to simply admit to a trivial error, far too many people struggle to do that, so whatever he may be on or not on, long may it continue.
  4. ....and don't forget to keep looking until you get safely to the other side! It may have been a long, long time ago but I haven't forgotten my Kerb Drill. None of this new-fangled, gimicky Tufty or Green Cross Code malarkey! I still have my Cycling Proficiency badge somewhere, too!
  5. If you look left, right than left again you'd be in the wrong country, although admittedly it would be better than not looking at all.
  6. Once your government (in the US) has done their part of the legalisation you need to get it done by the Thai embassy / consulate there. They should have details of how to get this done on their website. After that you take it to the MFA. There are agents milling around there who can quickly and inexpensively get translations done that meet the requirements of the MFA. I'm not a fan of agents but I used one to do that after the translation from a lawyer in Bangkok wasn't acceptable to the MFA.
  7. Returning to the theme of historical dramas (although this one is a bit of a crossover with supernatural / psychedelic), S3 of Britannia started last week, two episodes having dropped thus far. Another one that we enjoyed watching and as mentioned last year series 1&2 have a great soundtrack, hoping for that to continue into the new series. David Morrisey, Mackenzie Crook and Zoe Wannamaker among others have, among others, excelled (as you might expect). "Britannia is set in A.D. 43, when the Romans invaded Britain led by General Aulus Plautius, who is determined to succeed where Julius Caesar failed and conquer this mythical land on the very end of the Roman Empire. Kerra, daughter of the King of the Cantii, is forced to put her differences with arch-rival Queen Antedia aside in order to unite the tribes and supposedly magical Druids and face their invaders. But General Aulus carries a secret that threatens to undermine the entire mission." 6.8 on IMDb but I'd rate it around 7.5 FWIW.
  8. The first episodes of S4 of the Canadian crime drama Coroner have dropped. I like it. "Based on the best-selling series of books by M.R. Hall, "Coroner" follows a recently widowed coroner who investigates unnatural, suspicious or sudden deaths in Toronto. She visits different areas of the city and experiences the diversity of Toronto. She taps into her heart and intellect as she solves cases with the help of homicide detective Donovan McAvoy, pathologist Dr. Dwayne Allen and his assistant River Baitz, and Alison Trent, Jenny's assistant. All while doing her day job, Jenny deals with clinical anxiety, a teenage son named Ross, and working toward a prospective relationship."
  9. My nearest town, although I'm over the border in Suphanburi, near Bung Chawak.
  10. You won't get the same discounts here as 'back home' because traders here don't have the same mark-ups. I've found small independents to be generally less expensive than the sheds. I was introduced the English speaking owner of a hardware shop by our builder seven years ago and because we spent quite a bit there we always got discounts and to this day they usually knock something off the marked prices no matter how much or how little we're spending at the time. Sometimes they don't even charge for very small purchases.
  11. A couple of potentially good ones there @Will27. Just substitute '27' for 'Griggs' and job's a good un......
  12. Apologies if this got a mention in last year's thread but I've just stumbled upon the remake of P.D. James' Dalgliesh. James is a crime novelist of great repute but some will undoubtedly find the tv adaptations somewhat plodding (no pun intended) compared with more action packed examples of the genre. The two or three part extended episodes do, however, allow a more in depth portrayal of the main characters and I liked the 1980's Roy Marsden so I thought I'd give the reboot a try and have just watched the first episode. IMDb ratings barely split the two versions at 7.5 and 7.6 respectively and from my first viewing I'd concur with that. On the subject of reboots I note that a second series of Marc Warren's Van der Valk is on the way, but there's no release date as yet.
  13. Maybe he's the one who is 40.
  14. I have a Navara, it's extremely versatile with a Carryboy fitted and is a manual, which I've always gone for. We were looking for a smaller, automatic job for Mrs BM and purchased a ZS about three years ago and I have to say it's been great. Reliable, completely trouble free and I even like driving it despite it having no stick.
  15. I think that’s stretching a point, I often see selfish idiots stopping to <deleted> at the side of the road just a short distance from perfectly adequate off-road (safe) facilities. As as for toilet roll, most have bum guns. Why spread <deleted> around with tissue (which is extremely damaging for the environment) when you can wash it away?
  16. Fans of Vikings will probably also be enjoying The Last Kingdom. Production of the fifth (and probably final season) is complete but it is reported that Netflix are delaying release until after Vikings: Valhalla has aired. "The year is 866, and the Great Heathen Army's arrival in Britain is about to redefine the relationship between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. Following establishment of Danish rule in Jórvík and East Anglia, the show largely focuses on the resistance of the Kingdom of Wessex to ongoing Viking incursions to Southern England. The story covers about 40–45 years by the end of season 4." (8.4 on IMDb)
  17. Two excellent shows, I agree. Not seen the movie but I'll check it out. My personal favourite of the Italian gangster genre is Romanzo Criminale (8.5 on IMDb, available on Amazon Prime). "A criminal known as Lebanese has a dream: to conquer the underworld of Rome. To carry out this feat without precedent he puts together a ruthless and highly organized gang. Their progress and changes in leadership (Lebanese is followed by his cohorts Freddo and Dandi) take place over twenty-five years, from the 1970's into the '90's, and are inseparably intertwined with the dark history of modern Italy: terrorism, kidnappings and corruption at the highest levels of government. Throughout these years Police Lieutenant Scialoia sticks to the gang's trail, trying both to bring them to justice and to win the heart of Dandi's girlfriend Patrizia."
  18. Thanks for your concern but my comment about the comment monitor was in jest. I don't recall them commenting on one of my comments yet. Nothing to worry about, they'll never make prefect as they can't keep us delinquent types in order.
  19. I'm really losing a lot of sleep about posting now as we seem to have a acquired self-appointed comment monitor, nevertheless.... I know I'm not alone in having greatly enjoyed the critically acclaimed Vikings historical drama series that finished last year (8.5 on IMDb). The good news is that a sequel series entitled Vikings: Valhalla is coming our way in February. Follow-up series to 'Vikings' set 100 years afterward and centering on the adventures of Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Hardrada and the Norman King William the Conqueror.
