  1. This topic has been done to death over multiple threads over recent years.

The main thing to bear in mind is that each amphur office has different requirements. Some say must be married, some don't. Some say it cannot be done unless you own a condo, some don't. Some take months to issue, some do it immediately. Some just refuse point blank to issue a yellow book (pink ID card is a simple addition once yellow book issued).

I got my yellow book and pink ID card in 2019. It has been useful, especially for extensions of stay and with the DLT for driving licence and vehicle registration. I do find more hotels are happy to accept it these days (always have a picture of passport and entry stamp on phone just in case).

Car passport (international transport permit) is ONLY issued to those holding BLUE registration booklets for cars.

Motorcycles only receive a "vehicle inspection certificate", which is issued in English (partly in Thai). Car drivers receive this too; for motorcycles, this paper (there are two actually) is used to show customs in the neighboring country. Make additional copies of these papers and don't lose them.

You'll need your passport and your original registration as well as relevant copies of your passport information page, visa and entry stamp and car or motorcycle registration page. Some DLT offices will also require you to present a certificate of residency or yellow booklet. If you don't have one of these, go to Chatuchak in Bangkok. They will NOT require one.

Thanks! Very useful info. Morchit/Chatuchak DLT is my local office. I have yellow book too along with Non-O extension. Appreciate the advice.

  3. In a similar situation, I researched a lot and settled on Genki World Explorer. They offer coverage for motorcycle injuries (not racing). I started with them in November 2024. I have not made a claim so cannot vouch for their claims service. The coverage offered suits me. Their world policy covers from 1 month to 2 years and they bil your card montlhy until you cancel.

There I cannot help you but I know of people who did it with whom I can recheck.
    - the green registration book is in your name Yes/No?
    - yellow house book; take it along yet I never ever had to prove any residence issues. The Cambodians do not care and have no clue what a yellow house book is all about.
Let me know and I can recheck with some who just did it last month

Yes, green registration book is in my name. I beleive that I have to go the DLT in Thailand a get a vehicle passport. Any ideas on what is needed please?

Or two guys throw itnin the back of a pickup.

Exactly! My first thought. I witnessed a crash the other night. An Aerox scooter ploughed into a u-turning TukTuk (rider went over handlebars but was not injured). The front forks were smashed into the body of the bike and it wouldn't wheel. After a while, a pick-up truck arrived and two guys were able to easily lift the bike onto the truck bed. Could have been gone in 60 seconds!

I would say that disc locks or chains are a useful, but small deterrent. A good option also would be to fit a tracker.

The car owner (holding the blue car registration book) needs to apply for an ITP (International Transport Permit); issued against a nominal fee and valid for a year at the Department of Land Transport (กรมขนส่ง).

I am looking to take trips into Cambodia (motorcycle) and need to get the International Transport Permit (also called the vehicle passport I beleive). Can you, or anyone else, advise what is needed to get this?

I assume; Green registration book, Yellow house book - or do I need to get a residency certificate from immigration?, Passport (with annual visa extension). Anything else?

    Thanks for any help.

  7. If true, that's quite impressive. I rarely go long distance by car in the city. Normally opt for BTS/MRT or ride my motorcycle. Could the opening of all the new rail lines have something to do with this? What about the economy in the city too? I see a huge number of businesses shuttered and not opening in areas outside the city core (namely Ladprao and environs).

  8. In the UK the 5g signal is S. He. I. T. E. On most networks in recent times. Here in Thailand it's full strength just about everywhere. Not sure if it's true (no pun intended I'm with ais), but I read that it's to do with UK banning Huawei mobile base station equipment - therefore shortage of replacements. I'm sure that here in Thailand, Huawei is likely the prime supplier of mobile base stations. Certainly, even my 3BB fibre router is Huawei. Enjoy the 5g to the max.

  9. Thai will for Thai assets (condo, vehicle and 800k in Thai bank) costs about 5,000 Baht. What the Thai lawyers will not tell, unless pushed, is that to conduct probate will cost upwards of 150,000 Baht from your estate to handle probate and disburse to benefactors. Best to disburse yourself before demise if possible.

And a red plate shows it was pretty new, so the driver was inexperienced at driving it.

    There's your answer.

Totally agree that most likely was the case. EVs are very quiet so it's quite possible that she was going faster than she realised. Red Plate=Red Flag for me when I see red plate cars I'm always cautious to keep well away, as previous experience shows their driving often erratic.

I became friends with the owner of a hotel in Dawei who thanks to Covid and then the coup, was forced to sell his dream hotel. His second beach hotel also never became a reality due to years of bureaucracy, an anti-foreigner bias, which meant it took years to receive the necessary permits to build his hotel and in the end, that project was shelved too.

My GF, mother and I, stayed at Mandolis with Nawar in February 2020. Such a lovely gentleman and vision he had. A real shame that it all came to nothing and he left.

last night in bangkok was something else! I was chilling at this small bar on sukhumvit road sipping whiskey on the rocks while the neon lights glowed all around. The smells of incense and all the chatter from the crowd made it feel super lively.

While I was enjoying my drink two massive western guys sat down next to me. seriously they looked like they could be wrestlers with those huge necks and arms. Their laughter was so loud that it grabbed everyone's attention in the place.

then I noticed the woman with them. She was a cute thai bar girl bright smile and long dark hair looking like she just walked out of a movie. She squeezed in between the two guys her eyes sparkling a bit as she greeted them with a flirty smile. It looked like she was really used to guys like them but something told me she was more than just a pretty face.

They started chatting and laughing like they were best buds. The guys were having a blast and she seemed to be right in the middle of it joking around with them. But I couldn’t help but wonder what was really going on there beneath the fun.

Was this like a normal night out for them? just a couple of dudes having a good time with a pretty girl? Or was it something deeper? Maybe they were celebrating or just trying to escape life for a bit. Either way it was clear she had a role to play and I found myself curious about what that might be.

As the night went on they got louder—dancing laughing and clinking their glasses together. I was feeling a little overwhelmed but couldn’t help but feel a part of their excitement too.

Eventually I finished my drink and said goodbye to them as they stumbled out into the neon lights of sukhumvit. Watching them vanish into the night made me feel a little nostalgic. There was something about their group that stuck with me and I wondered what was next for them.

But I had my own night to keep going. I stepped out of the bar and back into the busy streets lost in my thoughts as I weaved through the wild chaos of bangkok.
