The past few trading days have shown the Baht/USD spiking back and forth.... Seems like there is a tug of war going on - assume the BOT is one player - wonder who is the other?

In the last few days the yahoo daily graph shows the baht rising and falling by almost a bath/$ within less than an hour - almost like a tug of war?... I wonder if the BOT is causing it?

Just as a word of warning to folks from the UK wishing to transfer Thai Baht from Sterling to Baht - it cannot be done!
A Royal pain in the butt - particularly on how pitiful the dollar is against both the kip and baht!
You mean to say I won't be able to send my hooker GF her monthly allowance?
Great
Transfers for Thai Goods & Services are exempt
On a serious note - Has anyone tried to use their ATM card in Thailand today....

Fiddlehead look on the bright side... you did not invest your $24,500 in the Thai stock market

I would assume that our wire transfers in for condo purchases wired directly into the condo developers Thai bank account for the purchase would be exempt from these rules as the transferring of funds are for the purchase of Thai goods (Condo)... And hopefully at a +40 to $1 rate

What South Africa needs is more parking ramps... Thailand has perfected the fully employed parking lot:
Salute Guy
Look for bomb (two guys)
Ticket Guy
Reverse whistle guy (one for each floor)
Return - review ticket guy
Departing salute guy

"The Airbus story does not turn on the familiar European issues of excessive taxes, restrictive work rules and 35-hour work weeks. Rather, it's about the pigheadedness of French and German partners who care less about how many planes Airbus sells than how the work is divided between countries."
"The wings of the A380 were made in Britain, the tail in Spain, the rear fuselage in Germany and the nose and front sections in France. Each national unit had its own engineering system, technology, suppliers, and legal and accounting staff"

This Titanic of a plane is a bigger boondoggle than the Concorde - Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner will take the entire market.

Bose store here in San Francisco told me Dual Voltage model no longer sold in USA unless I order direct from Bose which is much more expensive than US internet retailer

I want to set up a Bose 35 surround sound system in my condo in BKK. I want to buy the unit in the US. The units sold here in the US are not dual voltage so I will need a 110-220 voltage converter. My question is two fold... Are these converters reliable and safe to plug electronics into and do they use a lot of electricity when the Bose system is not turned on?

If you purchased a Dell laptop with thier standard 3 year warranty in the US and you need service in Thailand how is that handled. Do they have phone support in Thailand and if it needs to be physically repaired where do you send it in to?

Bot Pegging The Baht To Dollar At 36?
in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Posted · Edited by sfokevin
Seems like the Baht exchange rate is being set at 36 to the Dollar.
I assume this is BOT policy?
I wonder how long they have currency reserves to keep it up?
What is strange is why BOT needs to do it at all - you would think after the latest turmoil that people would be getting rid of their Baht....
