  1. So the question is why the Baht? Why isn't the PHP or the MYR up 8% against the USD over the last 3 months?

Probably the objective is not making money, but to destroy Thailand export industry, sending the country back to an agrarian society (so the junta will be happy to see a "sufficiency economy" :D ). Who might be so angry with Thailand to waste so much money to achieve such a mean objective ? I guess Singapore has many good reasons to hold such a grudge. (Temasek- Shinawatra probe, and do not forget the 100 billion baht fine on ITV)

An even bigger shark in the water is China and they have the patience and the cash to crush the BOT... (They are the Walmart of Asia and designed to put small businesses OUT of business... It just good business :o )

  2. Why bother to transfer it to Thailand if you're worried? Why not leave it in a US account and have him withdraw it through ATM machines?

Are you kidding? 100k is a lot to be withdrawing from ATM machines. Many banks have a pretty low limit on how much you can withdraw from ATM machines.

Do a search you can find ATMs that allow 40K withdrawals, do that every other week and yous are at about your 100K/month mark...

PS... all traditional banking systems will be scrutinized by Governments... If this is really an issue you will need to resort to a small unmarked bill technic...

  3. What is currently working for me is a U.S. based credit card that has no fee for cash advance and only a 1% interational transaction fee. Go to Thai bank, (also used in Laos), take cash advance. Access U.S. bank online checking, send payment for cash advance to credit card company. Minimal fees and very quick.

Could you possible tell us the brand/bank of your U.S. based credit card :o

  4. If one was 55 years old and not receiving a Government/Company pension check what other income source is acceptable? Could a stock portfolio of $500,000 be acceptable as the 65,000 baht/month income source?

I looked at the Bangkok US Embassy website and could not find any information on their certification of income does anyone know where more info can be found? Maybe a link to a .pdf of the form the Embassy will certify? Thanks

  5. When I went to the embassy in October to get my letter I didn't have to show them anything that proved I had the B65,000 p/m income. And when I went to Immigration the only document they wanted to see, concerning income, was the letter from the embassy.

Are you over age 62 and assumed to receive Social Security?...

If someone who was 55 years old (like the OP) would the embassy be as accommodating and assume you had the income?

  6. The airport’s problems also dominated yesterday’s cabinet meeting...

Adm Theera said the cracking was increasing, including those found at the northern end of the eastern runway and the southern end of the western runway.

The immediate solution was to advise pilots to avoid cracked areas. That would be possible because the runways were wide and long enough :D :D :bah: Adm Theera said.

Make sure your seat belts are on tight for landing! :o:D :D (My quote not Theera's)

  7. Going back to the original thread - It seems that 670K BP (1.3 million USD) is a rather high number required to get you to a 100K baht/month... Is your assumption that you will need the 670K (plus inflation cushion) at the end of the 20 years? If your plan is retirement (and then death) seems like you could spend down some of the principal over the 20 years... with this assumption you can start with a smaller nest egg?...
