I don't think this is a product driven only by geeky brand loyalty... It is a very inventive evolution/merging of technology... You can bet that Nokia, Samsung, Sony, LG and all the rest will ALL have a phone that are based on the iPhones ideas within a year... Unlocked and at a price all you Apple basher's can afford...
-
Actually, the Iphone has been cracked by Norwegian,Jon,who also hacked Itunes...
This is all fine and dandy... This guy has a $600 8gb wifi Ipod not a PHONE!.... But it is a good start, I think in time we will see a hacked phone that one can make calls using any sim... but it will never have the full functionality it was designed with... Remember in the end this thing NEEDS to be synced to iTunes periodically... thats where big brother's got you...

My new iPhone just arrived in Thailand today, via fed ex from the USA. I bought an unlocked iPhone on eBay.com, cost me an arm and a leg.
Anyway, the good news is that it works with AIS, but I need an unlimited data plan as its using data all the time and at 1 baht per min for data that means that it costs me 60 baht per hour just to leave it switched on.
It DOES have a sim slot.

I find your statement hard to believe... The iPhone is a little more sophisticated than your usual "locked" phone... The IPhone rquires you to initially activate any new iPhone thru an online sync with an iTunes account that will require you to sign up for a 2 year data plan... To date (less than 7 days released) all the proprietary "locks" on the iPhone have not been cracked...

Also look at how the SET is doing... Seems like a classic bubble building...

I would like to install a monitored burglar alarm system at my in laws home in Bangkok. I would mainly like a system that came with door & window monitoring and would have an additional health security alarm that they could wear in case they fall or hurt themselves someway... Any suggestions of companies?

Yes, tell us the outcome... I would worry that the above described technic would run into one glich... Once you put the first 500GB drive in your system it would try to rebuild the raid array and format the 500GB into a drive that has only 80GB recognizable - It will want to make a "mirror" of the original good drive and the other 420GB will not be usable... which may defeat your whole idea... This is not permanent but you will have to try another strategy... I would get one of those cheap external usb enclosures for a HD and put one of your 80GB drives in and see if you can access your data... If that works then remove the other 80GB drive and put both 500GB drives in at the same time... rebuild your new 500GB mirror drive and plug the usb enabled 80GB drive in and copy it over to the new array... If this data is really important look into a service like mozy.com - at just over $50 a year you can have a nice off site mirrored backup of unlimited size.

I would say that those ads in the paper have a high probability of being bait and switch...
And most give you that old styled printed ticket that scares me - If you lose them your screwed - Why is that??? Your name SHOULD be in the computer - Right...
Your original post seems to suggest that you want a one way ticket... You pay more per flight with the airlines directly for a one way fare... And expect special attention from our wonderful Homeland Security...
Look at a round trip also...
Check out kayak.com it is a interesting flight search...

You should also consider if the reception of the cell service of each provider... If you are going to use the for a desktop in your home you need to make sure the reception is good otherwise the speed will diminish greatly - most likely below the speed of your dialup...

I have a regular shower regiment of shaving the flag poll and the jewels ( I think it makes them more sensitive to the touch :>)... I clip the rest to about 2 inches... any longer and it looks like a jungle...
I got hooked on it in college when a date brought out a hot shaving cream dispenser...

I also have the CIT400... It works wonderful and completely stand alone with no need to have computer on. It also has a connection for a land line so you can switch between land line and skype (great for answering lobby security line!). I also have the Belkin wifi phone that is a bit of a pain the get logged onto wifi networks but once it is it works wonderful... Bad news is I don't know where you would get them in Thailand... mine came over in my suitcase

The advent of social security and retirement systems has changed the social contract and obligations we in the west feel required to pay to our parents and family... We should remember that this is not the case in Thailand... I am fully aware of my partners life long obligation to provide for his parents and as his partner see it as our joint obligation... Just like it is my partner obligation to return home with me to Iowa every Christmas and eat my crazy mothers turkey dinner...

Has CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) ever published a study suggesting that one should NOT invest in real estate?

I found this website - but the law as stated seems confusing:
http://www.thaiembdc.org/info/customs.html
What doe this statement imply?
"The following are subject to duty charges:
* goods which are brought into the country in a limited quantity as personal effects and are not for a commercial purpose.
* goods not exceeding 80,000 baht in value."
vs...
" the total value of all goods taken together not exceeding 10,000 baht, will be exempted from Customs duties"

This is my choice...

Fits in your pocket, has a nice big screen (Most important) and zoom lense - should be able to find for 7,500
Might be a bit small for some but - I find it perfect for travel and great for family events
