It makes sense because what is really the difference between an OA and an O visa for retirement? If you can extend both, but the OA requires insurance, it makes no sense.

This allows them to save face... They aren’t throwing anyone out but have closed the door for future retirees without insurance...

My guess is they will also tighten the extension rules to require 800k in the bank for all renewals

These health insurance topics always puzzle me regarding expats views on retiring abroad and their priorities.

As Sheryl points out above and has sensibly mentioned before, hospitalization is expensive.

The attitude that, "i have insurance in my home country" or "I can self-insure myself" seems irresponsible if you are under 70 and never signed up for international or thai health insurance policy.

People spend millions/hundreds of thousands of baht on homes, cars, motorcycles, vacations, financing girlfriends or wives, etc...  but consider health insurance an unnecessary expense at 6-8K a month.

If you get in an accident or come down suddenly with a severe health problem, "flying" home may not be an option.

No one likes to pay for insurance if they are healthy or relatively young (OP 55 years), yet if new cars or new motorcycles, or new homes take priority over health insurance, you are playing russian roulette IMO.

Maybe it's because we moved the cats into a place new to them and they had no other choice but to learn to use the cat doors.

He learned quickly how to use it when a particularly LoSo neighbor cat comes around... The grippy AstroTurf balcony we built is their favorite spot for late night karaoke...

Anyway, the cats soon figured out how to work the cat doors and now will use them exclusively to go to and from the balcony

I had a wonderful cat door installed, private balcony and ramp to the back garden...

The cat still sits in the front entry hall and cries until he is formally let out the front door... :coffee1:

My O-A expires Dec 9th., so i did  border run  (SATUN) on Sunday 27th.  I just filled in my TM6, passed it in with PP and was out and back in within minutes for 2nd year, stamped till Oct 2020. Nothing about insurance.

The insurance requirements do not kick in until after Oct 31st... After that everything is up in the air - Especially for O-A visa holders...
