This Agent/legal firm contends that a Non-O visa holder will be unofficially grandfathered out of the future insurance requirements...

It makes sense because what is really the difference between an OA and an O visa for retirement? If you can extend both, but the OA requires insurance, it makes no sense.
This allows them to save face... They aren’t throwing anyone out but have closed the door for future retirees without insurance...
My guess is they will also tighten the extension rules to require 800k in the bank for all renewals

Here is an interesting take on the future Non-O visa...
Good news is if you have one you are unofficially grandfathered out of insurance requirements...
Bad new is they will stop issuing Non-O for retirement purposes...

I’m surprised they have not issued monitors to immigration at the airport...

There is no reason to pit the OAs against the Non-O crowd...
We are both in their crosshairs... They started with the OA holders as this visa is issued to relative newcomers to Thailand that are younger and can get cheaper insurance - The authorities can more easily push the insurance on them... claim success train up people then expand the program to the larger, older and established Non O group saying it is simple See how the OA group accepted...
But make no mistake we are in the same boat...

I totally agree with the OP... Been here +10 years, I once thought that I could live my life out here but now I feel all long term visa options are built on quicksand... When the other shoe drops on the Non-O visas I am out of here...

Given that just about every long term visa is built on quicksand I don’t see how anyone would buy a permanent residence here...

Like this they can get everything working properly with just a few affected people if anything goes wrong, and once all processes are working fine they can do the big rollout.
They might also include people with a non-ED visa.
Think of it as starting out with cold water to cook a lobster...

These health insurance topics always puzzle me regarding expats views on retiring abroad and their priorities.
As Sheryl points out above and has sensibly mentioned before, hospitalization is expensive.
The attitude that, "i have insurance in my home country" or "I can self-insure myself" seems irresponsible if you are under 70 and never signed up for international or thai health insurance policy.
People spend millions/hundreds of thousands of baht on homes, cars, motorcycles, vacations, financing girlfriends or wives, etc... but consider health insurance an unnecessary expense at 6-8K a month.
If you get in an accident or come down suddenly with a severe health problem, "flying" home may not be an option.
No one likes to pay for insurance if they are healthy or relatively young (OP 55 years), yet if new cars or new motorcycles, or new homes take priority over health insurance, you are playing russian roulette IMO.
Yada Yada Yada...

I clicked on the source article and saw no sign of any amulets dangling from this guy...

Maybe it's because we moved the cats into a place new to them and they had no other choice but to learn to use the cat doors.
He learned quickly how to use it when a particularly LoSo neighbor cat comes around... The grippy AstroTurf balcony we built is their favorite spot for late night karaoke...

Here is a guy who installs the accordion style ones...

Anyway, the cats soon figured out how to work the cat doors and now will use them exclusively to go to and from the balcony
I had a wonderful cat door installed, private balcony and ramp to the back garden...
The cat still sits in the front entry hall and cries until he is formally let out the front door...

They have also opened one in Pramenada Mall...

The nothing burger will be Trump as a footnote in history...
What’s left of the Republican Party will turn Trump into a coffee boy in the next election cycle... Fox News will move onto a new lie to keep its gullible viewers tuned it... We in our lifetime will see Trumps name removed from every building he owns in bankruptcy...
What will remain is a proud historical record of honorable men who put the rule of law, duty and love of country above the powers of personal greed & ignorant prejudice...

Curious?... Will the airport immigration issue a multiple entry reentry or just single?
Also what is needed at the Airport?... Just the firm and a picture?

My O-A expires Dec 9th., so i did border run (SATUN) on Sunday 27th. I just filled in my TM6, passed it in with PP and was out and back in within minutes for 2nd year, stamped till Oct 2020. Nothing about insurance.
The insurance requirements do not kick in until after Oct 31st... After that everything is up in the air - Especially for O-A visa holders...
