  1. i have always heard it's the other way around- when it comes to paycheck time the thai boat captains just throw the burmese guys overboard.

for sure that came up in the "After a five-hour questioning, the two confessed" and was discussed, and dismissed! :o

  2. anyone know if the new train going across from nonkai to laos has opened fully yet? as last time time on here was a trail run

    googled it got, http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#Bangkok...o%20Nong%20Khai

Railway under construction: Construction of the railway from Nong Khai across the Friendship Bridge into Laos started in January 2007, and was due to open as far as a new rail passenger terminal at Tha Naleng, just on the Laos side of the Bridge, on 18 April 2008 (although in practice it didn't, and is still not open as at June 2008, due to legal problems). An extension the following 12km to the suburbs of Vientiane is being studied.

First they said April, then August:don't hold your breath! :o

Methinks they haven't decided how to process the passengers yet.

Anyway, for the5Km,it will be only worth if one stay on the train all the way from/to Bangkok!

"Anyway, for the5Km,it will be only worth if one stay on the train all the way from/to Bangkok!"

for you maybe, i dont want to be stuck on a train for 12 hours, the short journey will do fine, or maybe from udon if it goes through there? if it is open, i would have thought someone lives that area!

    thanks all

  3. I can only think that only the depraved, alcoholic, and perverted could enjoy some kind of existence there.......

I have never been so insulted in the whole of my life.

I feel really sickened and offended that someone should have the bare faced ordacity of accusing decent upstanding citizens who reside in Pattaya of such vice.

This really makes my blood boil, and this specimen has never even visited Pattaya in person?

libya sorry mate, i think he was talking about me!

  4. can someone please explain how the 30 day entry rules work, "within 6 months".

am i allowed to get as many 30 day entries as i want, maximum 90 days total stay inside Thailand, within a 6 month period?

how is the 6 month period calculated? is it six months prior to the date I'm entering Thailand?

Can someone suggest a link to a thread that explains how that works?

    thank you!!

    1 :o

    2 http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Visa-Rules-C...med-t84525.html

above is an old link but gives good advice etc

3 as lop and lb said as many as up to the 6 months

is it six months prior to the date I'm entering Thailand?

if you havnt got a visa from some ie consulte or embassy and you just arrive here, you are given the 30 days as you say, so that starts as you enter the country.

if your looking to find out if you can stay say 3 months?? basically yes but you must do a border run 2 times!

"am i allowed to get as many 30 day entries as i want, maximum 90 days total stay inside Thailand"

now this one back to lop and lb, if jaansin wanted to come in and out everyday for 90 days would he be allowed? i dont know?

when i go do border runs they put no's on the passport eg 1 2 3 full, but thats cos i do 30 days a time!

  5. right the two experts in the last few postings. a archeological question. in my visits to most of the Khmer sites i flagged up with resident archeoligists what all the holes were for in the blocks of stone. the experts seem to think they are/were for lifting the blocks. this is unacceptable to me as one, man hours to drill the holes would be ridiculous , and two, the blocks arn,t that heavy to warrant the man hours. any ideas . oh kat man hours also = woman hours. lol. the pc police have got me. lol

ere, egg, thats an easy one, even i can get that, its to let the water out if someone leaves a tap on!

did they have drills 900 years ago anyway :o

    From MailBag

    Farewell Pattaya

    Dear Editor,

My wife and I have been visiting Pattaya and the rest of the Kingdom for the last ten years. Sadly, the levels of greed, early closing times, prejudice directed at farangs, police indifference, crimes against persons and raising prices with reduced service have helped make our decision to go elsewhere for our holidays.

I can’t say that all is bad in the Kingdom. Issan is a kinder, gentler place, but lacks the ocean sea-breezes, shopping, dining and “lights of the big city” that attracts us to Pattaya. Koh Samui and Phuket are nice, but captive and pricey to get to.

I’ve yet to figure out why a government that relies so heavily of tourism cannot grasp the concept that competition from surrounding countries is a reality.

With that thought, we say farewell to Thailand and we will cherish the fond memories of our Thai friends and experiences from holidays past.

Goodbye Thailand. Our money is going elsewhere.

  8. He is on overstay at his own fault. He will just have to pay for the 10 or 11 days.

    yep, anything else?

Are you sure Mr A cannot have two more, relatively small, stamps in some odd corners of his passport?

If so, why not go to Malaysia and renew his passport at the British Embassy in KL? One Thai traingular exit stamp (5cm x 2cm) and one small (4cm x 3.5cm) Malaysian entry stamp and he's there.

Malaysia has a 90 day visa exempt entry for British Citizens.

Surely this is a more sensible option.

sounds a good option and cuts down on overstay for him, i was under the impression that for most and i thought def malaysia was a 6 month validity and either one or 6 blank pages?

his expire date of passport is fine

    thanks again

    chris

  9. right here we go,

right, (british) man named mr a miss's his flight, and runs out of visa exempt entrys on that day so becomes an overstay

add that to the fact his passport is absolutly full and no space to get a stamp or visa etc

he needs a new passport and can get one from bangkok that will take approx 10 days

    My advice to him is

go bkk apply passport, wait 10 days, go to laos pay maybe 10/12 days overstay then on in to vientine and get a visa.

so what im asking is, is this his best option? or is there a way he could maybe report to an imigration with maybe a reciept from british embassy confirming his application for new passport and maybe they can so put his overstay on hold?

any ideas or suggestion's will be of help

    Many thanks

    chris

  10. Great report Alex! I am due for a visa trip in September (do I go to Penang or Vientiane?). Chris, if you read this what would you say? My U.K. passport was issued last December, and so far I have one single t.v. and a double from Vientiane. To risk or not to risk another apllication is the question. Penang may be a better bet - I don't know. Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

    Gas :o

Totally agree good report, and great to hear ev thing still ok up there.

well i think vientiene for sure, for no other reason, there dosnt seem to be any bad reports coming back only positive ones and many incuding alex report have had prvious visas and still no problem, i wanted to go try cambodia to see if things are now ok cos that would give a plan b, but things have changed a bit so ill leave that this time, im pretty sure im off next week to vientiene and this will be my second x2 so will try do an update on my return.

    chris

  11. Vientiane has openly voiced there displeasure with people using agents from reports here; so expect that may have something to do with it.

well touch wood, i have used an agent there and not had any problems in fact the reverse, the service has saved time and potentanally money, the guy i use is from laos so maybe they do like doing buisness with a falang visa agent if that is who this cludio is?

from memeory im sure tropos missus is a philapino and he went up in january i think so maybe he can shed some light on that?

    chris

Hi there. I'm in the Philippines right now and this is the first time I've had a chance to check this forum.

You are correct Chris, my missus is Filipino and she had no trouble getting a double-entry TV in January. There was a bus load of Filipinos at the consulate on that day and they were giving out double-entry TV's like hotcakes.

hey up tropo, nice to hear from ya mate, seems everthing still ok up at vientiene, will you be going next month or can you get anything sorted in filapines?

i might be back up a couple of weeks, was toying with cambodia as been told things are easier now as was going to a wedding anyway but thats now off with the problems ariseing from preah vieher, so no def plans yet what to do.

    chris

  12. Seems that the rules are a bit unclear on weather you can get an extension after you have used up your 90 days visa exemption entries. The experts say probably not.

You can do one of the following things:

    1. just do your third visa exemption entry and apply for a 7 day extention. They might give it. If they don't give it you will have to pay an overstay fine. It is no big deal.

    2. Make a visa run instead of a border run.

    3. When you make your border run, stay a few days in a neigbouring country and than come back.

yep good advice and or if ya off to kl, maybe you could change flight date to fit in?

"just do your third visa exemption entry and apply for a 7 day extention. They might give it."

if you do this one please post your result as it will confirm some misunderstanding with me on here, or maybe ask at imigration before its time up?

maestro and lop, thanks for your responses,

    chris

  13. He has no visa to extend. And he has used up his allowed 90 days visa exempt entry per my understanding. It will be up to immigration and they normally try to be helpful. But in this case he has plenty of time to arrange a different strategy and believe he would be well advised to do so. The call could go either way in my view.

right, he has no visa i understand that, he also didnt extend for 30 days if i read it right, no problem, what im trying to get at is if man a gets 3 x30 days visa exempt entries then on last day he applys for an extention of 7 days can he have it?

thats what its for isnt it?

or if what your saying is you cant extend on 3rd visit, so then can you extebd 1st visit,? then second? would they only give say 20 days at border on that 90 day ruling???

" It will be up to immigration and they normally try to be helpful." yep as always, but if i asked you lop what extention could i get after doing my torist visax2 and completing my second entry, how many days may i extened if for, your reply i belive would be 30 chris, why cant this be as stright forward?

    chris

  14. I have 2 left. Just wanted to know after the 3rd and last 30 day stamp from Cambodia run if I could get an extra 7 days at imm?

    Sorry for not being clear.

I think the above makes it clear that the OP is planing ahead for the third 30 day stamp and I don't think, that any extension of stay after 90 days in LOS based on 30 day exempt stamps have been used up, is possible.

    opalhort

why? surley cant we find this out? this dosent seem hard to me,

after he has done 3 border runs x30 days then he wants an extension of 7 days why he cannot have 7 days?

my reply was and still is yes, for no other reason he is asking for an extention which is what the 7 days is about no?

one of the mods says unlikly, opaolhort says no, lop not 100% sure on your thoughts, is this correct you cannot extened for 7 days?

this isnt an argument, if im giving this guy bad advice i want to know, the same as op yes or no?

    many thanks

    chris

  15. Hi,

I have 2 more Cambodias left before I leave for KL to get hopefully a non O multiple entry visa. I have worked out that my visa from the last Cambodia will run out on the 26th September, but I have a flight to KL on the 29th September, maybe even 30th. Could I get a 1 week extension of stay after the 90 days out of 180 days, or are they insistent on you leaving? Obviously i'll be a few days over and don't want to overstay.

    Thanks all.

You have been staying in Thailand on visa exemptions ?

I had a double entry tourist visa originally but when that ran out last month I did the first Cambodia run for the 30 day expemtion. I have 2 left. Just wanted to know after the 3rd and last 30 day stamp from Cambodia run if I could get an extra 7 days at imm?

    Sorry for not being clear.

Should be fine 7 days no worrys, unsure why one of mods put unlikly?

    Chris

  16. penang wouldnt be my first choice at the mo, singapore also, laos almost 100% and you can get x2 gives you more days in thailand

  17. Incidentally, the temple is now accessible from the Cambodian side, albeit not a 4-lane expressway.

In about 2004, the Cambodians pushed through a rough road from the bottom of the escarpment all the way to the top. This has opened up more Khmer people accessing the temple area, mostly vendors, army and other support personnel. The track is best negotiated with motorcycles (dirt-bike-types), 4x4 vehicles, or on foot. Several of my American friends who live near the border on the Cambodian side have done the trip.

My guess is that with the recent UNESCO designation, that approach will be improved and Cambodia will be able to assert easier "natural" control of the site due to better accessibility. It's time for Thailand to give it up, practically and emotionally.

"It's time for Thailand to give it up, practically and emotionally"

Totally agree, the arguments of for and against or whose "now side" made it always seem to go with the cambodian side, they aint got owt left out of life and not as greedy as other countries, all they want is eat, happy and and some old temples, the most annoying thing in all of this is its hitting street people now with cambodian workers here (thailand) returning to cambodia through work not bieng passed them as much and a dislikeable attitude from (thai) boss's!

so "It's time for Thailand to give it up, practically and emotionally" and with good luck and maybe a helping hand from the thai tourism atth to promote and encourage visitors to thai to travel over the border to visit!

  18. got a acer 5051 laptop and would like to connect it to my a tv, i bought a cable last week pc to tv cable from big c, when i got it home it wasnt a usb type plug as i thought it was similar but not same.
