The bike instead of running is well-advised. Made the same change myself and am going to get rid of my old treadmill. Some walking is still good and needed, however. I do a fast walk of about 20 min a few times a week on the beach and then walk up a mere 5 flights of stairs on the way back in.

About a month ago I started using the side stepper machine at the gym for 10 min sessions. Doesn't stress the knees, and it's great for helping your balance. Lazada has home versions:

    https://www.lazada.co.th/tag/side-stepper/?q=side stepper&catalog_redirect_tag=true

Danger is that pain or debilitation may stop the exercising. So I hope your working to resolve it helps enough. Doesn't have to be 100%, just manageable and not getting worse. (Consulting orthopedist recommended, of course.) I might also suggest knee supports during exercise that stress the knee, like this:

I wear the straps during my interval sessions on the bike and I find them helpful. Keep the kneecaps from wandering around and getting into positions they don't like.

i believe you are one of a small number of poeple that try to find the source of the knee ( and other)  problems , and then work at finding what works best to alleviate the pain and regain normality ,  as much as possible for your condition.

The average "expert" , no matter what credentials they flash,  do not lead me to blindly following their "this is what it is,  and this is what you must do" .

Note:  i have remained quite healthy , with many challenges to tackle, IN SPITE of receiving many varied suggested regimens .   Mostly R and P .  ( rest and pills !)

Anything resembling getting to the root problem has mostly been ignored or misdiagnosed. ( and i have been to numerous "orthopedics"  in the CM area over the years) .   The average "consultation"  almost always gets a cursory movement of the troubled area,  a quick analysis starting with " i think you have ......" ,   followed by trying to sell me 3 packages of colored pills ( always paracetomin among them ! ), and of course some latest anti-inflamatory drug .   "come back if you don't get better " ....  Of course, now that i am older .... the standard remark is that we all age and have these "arthritic type pains ) .     What they don't know or say is that there are many, many types of arthritis ... and in the case of the knee... a ton of factors that could be involved :  https://orthoinfo.aaos.org/en/diseases--conditions/common-knee-injuries

Since i look in very good shape,  and have strength in my leg ( relative to other old farts) ...... they basically give me a thumbs up and say " take alleve, be careful with diclofenac ( does work for me, but not good for the body ) .     blah blah blah  times up.

Sure could use a basketball players orthopedist to tell me what the real cause is ..  maybe i will start a Go Fund me    hahaha

ligaments, bones, meniscus, deterioration, tendons .     How to figure out the inner workings as time wears the body down .    Diet, exercise,  suplements,  stretches, and lets not forget standing on our heads and rubbing crystals.

and,  a bit of laughter never hurts either.....

btw:  i walk a bit,  stretch a bit,  stationary bike a bit ,  take magnesium and boron,   and collagen ...... don't eat crap , ....

doing the best i can  🙂

What you describes does not sound at all  like a torn meniscus. More likely arthritis.

As emwith anything rlse, an accurate diagnosis is essential.

In my experience people's self diagnoses are wring more often than right.

Oh,  you are so right !   I also encourage people to get an accurate diagnosis ,  and encourage people to use their own critical thinking abilities in the process.

Are you taking colagen or any supplements to maintain your own health ?

I was at that time considering flying to cnx to have surgery. Now it's fine. You do not have to fly to India bro.

what was your age at the time of injury ?   SO MUCH depends on the age and type of injury .

I am just having knee "issues"  now ...... at 73 .    In good health, not overweight,  exercise ( nothing heavy anymore) , but lo and behold the knee started hurting.   Has gotten better (somewhat)   with some rest and very light stretching.  good diet. Now i have added COLAGEN  ..... which IMO  now,   i should have taken for a number of years.   The body produces

less and less with age ...especially after 40 !    Ligaments and muscles require more protein than when young to keep everything from going downhill .

So..... I am about 4 months in ( 2 on collagen)  and notice a difference.   Whether the knee(S) will completely heal remains to be seen.    But definitely not hurting as much as 4 months ago. I am now doing light strengthening , stationary bike best for me .   I will try to keep improving .... before heading for an operation.    All our situations are "unique" ..... and hearing others situations can help with comparisons on how to fix,  going forward

We originally paid 15 million, and we have since expanded the size of the house, kitchen remodeling, extensive landscaping, and we've just completed refurbishing all the teakwood inside and outside the house. All these additions cost another 3~4 million. While there may be some home depreciation to take into account, the land value itself has skyrocketed because it is in the actual city, not the suburbs. The neighboring moobaan, built at the same time as our home, but with smaller identical looking houses, has even higher asking prices (per sqm), and is full of Chinese families.

i waited a few minutes.... to get over my initial response :   "Supply and Demand "  .   That is ALWAYS the case ... but the seller only has to find ONE  buyer .    From my experience local real estate agencies offer very little ( and can be a pain in the butt) .    Also you will save a huge commision by finding a buyer yourself ( or offering less than the companies usual 3 % ) .    Get everything in writing !

So.... i would get a for sale sign made in English ... and CHINESE .  Use red color  55    Hang it on your gate if allowed.

And why not hand some fliers to the Chinese you have noticed in your and other close by moobahns ??

I was never shy about telling people ..... and sold one property to a friend of a tenant i had .   Also another where my neighbor knew someone ( and wanted, and got,  a commission) .

Being from the UK I have no interest in learning the language, when in the UK school I also had no interest in learning French, which we were told would be a great asset...😂

For me, been living here for many years, I get by not speaking Thai/Laos, when I did speak it, folk just looked at each other...😂....so now don't bother, except some very basic stuff.

I have even spoken Queens English with Uni-English Thais, same thing, don't understand me, though to be fair, if I phone 3BB, press 9 for English, with a problem, they understand me perfectly, 10 out of 10........

So no, if you want to learn Thai/Laos, great, but get to a stage where you can converse, if not, waste of time....🤗

another typical excuse .   plain and simple  🤗

in fact.... thirty years ago , living in CM ,  i would cringe whenever one of the few farangs living here would tell people about it .    Now that they have come ..... look what's happened .

how much, what size house? I really dislike my wife's house in Mae Jo as it's near the highway but I don't think I can stomach the horrible little housing projects which are filling up CM at rapid speed. Getting an ok house now seems to costs minimum 3.5 mil, something you could build for far less on more land in any other city. Sorry for the negativity but I'm bitter with CM at the moment. 🙂

I just visited Hua Hin for 3 days to check it out and I didn't like it all. Ugly and congested streets like CM, miserable hot sticky weather and more expensive. Tourism was out of control too.  It was better more south but still really touristy (drunk weekend Thai tourists from BKK) and outside the beach resort areas it was pretty rundown and had Cambodia vibes (yuck).

I'm totally sick of Chiang Mai though, I would move tomorrow if my wife could leave her job. The city is overpopulated, ugly and hard to get around to do basic things. It was better in the past but it gets worse every year and is even a rip off compared to any other smaller cities in the north.

So why stay? Well CM sucks but the north of Thailand is so much nicer than the south. I love the mountains which I cycle in and I'm living in Samoeng as much as possible now for this reason. I think I'd rather just give up on Thailand if I had to live in the south but that's easier said than done. Isaan looks depressing too but I haven't explored there much.

Unless you have really big bucks.......... everything is a "trade-off"  nowadays .

Personally i meet very few older farangs that seem to care much about their health (IMO) .   Little exercise and a diet

that i can not handle . ( we won't get into that argument here   haha) .

My point is ,  the North and even Central now has MONTHS of bad pollution .   Other months are really nice .

The humidity near beach areas is not so pleasant .  But last month i sat out on a balcony mid day and the breeze was so nice .  You are right about Hua Hin .........but further South there are areas that are "quiet"  and have some good points.

Of course.... quieter places also are "boring"  for many .  And there are no Rimpings around  🙂

Just got back three days ago .   Stuck inside with the air filters again !

It's not just Chiang Mai, the whole of SE Asia is ablaze, and the Indian sub-continent.

Here's the burning for the last 7 days.

Is there a link for easy access to this graphic on a daily basis ?

ALSO...... as NR  points out ... the whole friggin continent is on fire .   I have a few opinions ( not optimistic ones) regarding the possibility of this changing in my lifetime ( well, could get worse, ifs that even possible)

So.......... sometimes,  as a thai would say,  if you wanna be flee you gotta flee .   Go where the smoke don't rise

i have it stored from 2011 ......... the reruns are exactly the same

btw:  i have been in the area ( includes CR and Lamphun) for 35 years .   Like everything, things have changed .

Only thing i can think of thats better is the internet  🙂      What else could we do waiting out the bad months?

Shoulda ............. moved South .   More humid and not quite as "charming"  as the North, though.

  13. looking for recommendations for 3" or 4"  GOOD QUALITY  memory foam topper ( brand name, specifics, price )  if possible.

Hopefully from persons who have actually purchased one recently ( like in the last 2 years   🙂 .

Homepro or Central would probably have best quality ...... but any other ideas ok

    thanks,

They have the right to be whatever they want, as long as it doesn't break the law.

Restricting gender-affirming care for minors and excluding trans women from participating in sports teams aligned with their gender identity is IMO an entirely proper thing to do. Children have no idea what they want to be when they grow up and are easily swayed by fads, while genetic males have a built in advantage over real women in sports. I'd have thought that was self evident.

"self evident"  no longer exists for an amazing number of humans .    and that number is ever growing.

stop living in the past TBL !   haha    (btw.... i just spent a month in bang saphan.  still quiet and very peaceful )

Rock hard Thai mattresses (which is 95% of all Thai mattresses) will do this -- all the more so if one is thin.

For home, get a good memory foam topper, well worth the expense and makes a world of difference.

For travel,  get an air mattress and bring it with you. If buying from lazada search for "air bed". And make sure to get the little electric pump to inflate it.

I never stay in a Thai hotel without having packed my air mattress. For exactly the reason you describe.

any recommendations for a brand or specific place to buy a good memory foam topper ?

Here's an honest, though admittedly very pointed question about the studies.  Did they break out the victims to differentiate between long Covid and long Vax?

Because my symptoms started the day after my 2nd Pfizer and over a year before I got Covid.  So color me cynical if they don't break it down.

well,  i believe the creative thinkers giving us covid "information"  have,  after being "baffled"  by cases such as yours, come up with the newest unbelievable explanation .   Those who have had ongoing problems after being vaxed... but long before getting covid......... are suffering from PRE COVID symptoms !

    Yep.   pre covid .   that's it .

Thank you, now we're getting somewhere!

That is not an official government form, which as I recall you said was given to you by the agent, the form does not show a form number on it as all official forms do. The design and contents of the document suggest the form is part of Immigration's "greater scrutiny" campaign, rather than anything that Revenue might use. The question is now, whether this is a local office, one off or is it more wide spread.

What is widespread (and worldwide) is the slow but sure increase in billionaires ,  the ongoing controls being implemented on "ordinary" workers/citizens,  and the sands of freedom being washed away into the ocean of one world order.

Every new dictate and demand to make us show every detail of our lives , as "they"  pass by go and collect money from the masses does not go down well with me .  But, just my personal feeling, of course.

Sorry for adding this off topic comment..... but i did give a pertinent one previously   🙂

So you were asked during applying for your annual extension at CM Imm about details of your the monthly income- amount(s) & source(s) and you were using the 400K+ money in the bank method and not the monthly income method?

I rarely get involved with the assorted issues people have at CM immig...... (as you can see it turns into a real circus. the comments.  and everyone is "an expert" )

but...... here is my experience as of 2 months ago.   I am on retirement extensions, and have fixed account which i leave untouched ,  for years now .  NEVER an issue or question.....BUT THIS YEAR , even with an appointment, they wanted me to go first to the  blank blank guy at the window at ground level .  He looked at my papers , which are same as always , and then hits me with the Bull that i need to go to bank and get a record .  Trying to talk to him was useless so i did not argue ....but i went upstairs and asked at info to speak to an "officer" .  Talking to a "helper" will not work.  An officer came over and in polite talk I said that i use a fixed account (showed my book, she sees my balance remains the same) and she told me i do not need any "other"  info or form.

The next day when i went to my appointed time the attending officer , different than who i asked the day before, started to talk about the bank form ( no, not the letter we always have to bring about proof of funds) .... and once again i say it is not needed.  The MAN who presided confirmed this and that was that .  I even asked for the form the guy below had talked about and the presiding officer said "NOT NEEDED" .    I left it at that.

note:  i speak pretty good thai,  do not raise my voice (but i might have shown a bit annoyance .  very hard not to as the blood pressure raises  haha) .    Anyways ..... the guy on ground level seems to refuse to accept what i just relayed here concerning people using money in the bank method .  (and probably many agents do not understand it either)
