It's one of the most visited cities in the world maybe you missed out on that fact! People often come for the street food maybe you missed that! There is an awesome clean sky train and probably one of the cleanest modern subways in the world to get you through the " traffic" in minutes as well as river taxis and canal boats. What rip offs in BKK?? The crowds are what make famous cities like Bangkok, London and New York City great. Bangkok has the best restaurants, night life ( including tons of night life that does not include prostitutes) and amazing temples and culture too. Most people live in hi rise buildings and don't live at street level where the worst pollution is and main roads are clean and plants and trees are watered and maintained regularly. Tons of small quiet sois to live on and parks and even the green lung " bancrachao" to explore on foot or bicycle.  The malls and shopping! Please don't compare Jomtien to Bangkok. Have you ever read Thai Visa Forum?? There are probably 10/1 ratio of positive Bangkok threads to positive Jomtien/ Pattaya threads. From people who live here.  Also many more vibrant, interesting and young as well as young at heart in BKK.

You talk like you are positive I have not visited Bangkok. Well I have been there many times and even worked there for a couple of months. The sky train is clean but nowhere near as clean as Singapore's. Sure it has some nice Mall's but gee I been there and its a 30 min walk to the nearest toilet. Siam Square eg. I have been to the so called best restaurants there no big deal. The Irish pub or the German pub serves better class meals. Bangkok is not a nice city, for a nice city you should go to Singapore, no crime, very clean, and every taxi driver is not trying to rip you off. You could eat your dinner off the floor of the subway stations or the train carriages floors. I am sorry but in my humble opinion Bangkok is a dump.Especially around the river markets.Don't get me wrong Pom Rak Mon Thai but not Bkk.

There are some cheaper areas of BKK even close into the central area.  I'm not sure why this has not been mentioned but if you could  sign a 9-12 month lease agreement you could get a great deal on a condo/ apartment.  Can you live in a larger studio ( maybe 35-40 sq meters)? Or do you need a separate bedroom and living room?  You can get clean but basic studios near Rachatewi for 6-7k per month nicer buildings with much better kitchens 10-12k per month.  Utilities could sometimes be included or some may be separate.  Then you could easily go 12 months on 45 k. As you said you may go out 1 or 2 nights a week so maybe 6 times a month. There is also a BTS stop in Rachatewi and you can walk to almost anything you will need in 5-15 minutes.  Other BTS stops as you go to Phaya Thai ( less stuff in the neighborhood) and Victory monument are also cheap.   There are several local streets off Petchaburi near soi 14 that have cheap local street food and massages are still only 200 baht/ hour. Also many reasonable rooms in the area. You can even walk to airport train in Paya Thai in 8-10 min when you want to go elsewhere.

Who wants to live in Bkk for months. 1-2 weeks is plenty. Jomtien is the way to go. More peaceful than Pattaya.

I think the time to question things would be when you give your wife/girlfriend 500 baht to buy something and 2 hours later she comes back with the item plus 2000 baht.

Back on topic, can anyone see the similarity on places you are ripped off and the old Tommy Cooper joke.

Tommy - Doctor, I've broken my arm in three places.

Doctor - Don't go to those places then.

Obviously my wife is different to yours. She was a rice farmer not a bar girl.

Sorry fellow scouse did not mean to ignore you, just lost track of the thread. I don't have any strong feelings either way, never been to any of these places in Thailand and just mentioned East Africa as a sort of comparison.

The PI hmm. You don't go to the chippy in Subic do you??

I have been in the Phils over 3yrs and never paid to Pee yet. No shortage of toilets in the malls and the coffee shops and Macca's dont stop you just walking in and using the loo.

Thats the stuff Australian immigration look at, length of relationship and proof, photos emails etc. A job or children etc to come back to, reasons to come back. Lots of information if you google.

Also, a bit of paperwork to get married, if you are divorced you need original of divorce certificate, trips to Australian consulate and Thai ministry of foreign affairs in BKK.

Its getting very expensive to take her to Aussie. Best just try and hope for a tourist visa. Only other visa maybe a student visa but she will have to enroll maybe study English, it will be expensive either way.

Thanks, well, it isn't that straight forward (Never did a TM 30 EVER!)

I left Thailand for 2 weeks in September - I am on a Non O, marriage extension have been for years. Never been asked for TM30 at yearly extensions.

I need to go to immigration this week anyway as either them or Thai post has lost my return 90 day slip - by post.....not the first time.

So I am trying to get my house in order before going to the agent for the yearly extension due in March.

So at the moment my 90 day report is missing, 25 days already, not much hope that it is going to turn up. I just want to make sure that if I turn up at immigration for a reprint of the report I am not going to get hit with a request for the TM30. (It is a 90KM return trip to drive out there)

So I am preparing for the worst case - I have the TM30 filled in, I have a Power of Attourney to allow me to pay the 1600 baht (WHAT A JOKE! 2 witnesses required - Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse no doubt will do if they want some money!!!) on behalf of my wife.

From what I can gather, the agents dealing with the extension are asking for the TM30, I would have thought that the Yellow Registration book pretty much covered all of that crap anyway....however, This Is Thailand! They have probably cut down more trees to satisfy immigration than the British ever did in Thailand and Burma combined.

  7. I am surprised no Chinese queue jumpers mentioned so far on this topic. They are by far the most rude arrogant queue jumpers in the world. Possibly because they have to push and shove in China due to the overcrowded situation. I forgot how many I elbowed (accidentally)in the Australian betting shops as they shoved in to get a bet on at the last minute. I was even thanked by the person serving at the window once saying the offender had been pushing in all day.

If the father dose not want to take care ok .

i was reading from the first part of the story.

it will cost the op lots of money for the visa for the kid .

not sure about English visa but Australia ones are going up to $10,000 each soon for kids and parents.

so I can see in the future man not taken parents and their kids out of thailand.

Well they have to pay for the illegal boat people somehow.

When She  says that shes  just going around to 7/11 to buy something and can she have some money, She really goes to a 7/12 and buys that thing for HALF-PRICE and keeps the change

Apart from my previous reply I forgot to mention we did everything together so that alone stuffs up your theory. insanemax
