Roses, maybe the price is way up for Valentines Day because 3 years ago I was in Bkk and I was suprised how cheap roses were. I bought 1 dozen red roses from a street vendor on Sukhumvit Rd near Nana for only 240 Baht.

Regarding Aspirin. It is not illegal in Thailand, heaven forbid as there are too many old folks taking low dose aspirin to prevent blood clots and heart attacks/strokes. However a word of advice re the taking of aspirin for blood thinning purposes. Aspirin used to be my hang over cure in my early life until one day I took 2 and the next day I took 2 more. I had not taken any for a while at the time. This time I experienced a large circular area on my diaphram and a circular areas on both my wrists. There was no pain they just looked like blue bruises. I visited my GP and the first thing he asked was 'Had I taken aspirin lately' and of course I had. I had tests and was diagnosed as a borderline bleeder (haemophiliac). Since those days over 35yrs ago I have not been able to take aspirin for any reason. I had no trouble for 30 yrs taking aspirin then all of a sudden I became aspirin allergic. So be warned it is safe to take aspirin for a long time but then with no warning the same could happen to you.

I too am well travelled throughout Asia.I was going to retire to Thailand having been there numerous times over the last 20yrs for varying lengths of stay. However I have ended up retiring to the Philippines, I have not experienced any of the bad things toy mentioned. Maybe that's because I have not spent much time in Manila. I agree Manila is a bit rough, but I never had any bother when I stayed there 2for 2 weeks, going to the Malls to eat and not going to night clubs, making use of the hotels entertainment. However Cebu is a lot different from Manila apart from the bloody traffic. Other places are ok too, so please dont tar them all with the same brush as Manila. Also I am starting to think I made the right decision reading this forum on all the crap you need to go thru to stay long term in Thailand and they seem to be creating more hoops to jump thru as far as visa's are concerned. In the Philippines you just extend your tourist visa every 2 months costs about US$100. I myself have been here just over 12 months tis time and I have obtained a Permanent Resident visa which cost approx US$330 its a temporary visa for 12 months then I can convert it to a full Permanent Residents visa. After that I will just do an annual report so they can keep my address on record. I feel safe here but its like any other country where foreigners stand out in the crowd, best not to wander around alone, always have a local with you. Cheaper too when you want to purchase something.

Trying to stay healthy living in Thailand. Its not easy and Street food is a definite No No. Nothing wrong with Thai food if you stay away from the fried stuff god only knows what they fry it in. Coconut oil is a must to fry food in anything else is looking for trouble even olive oil as its authenticity is always in question.
The best way to keep healthy is juicing your vegetables and eating lots of good fat. A probiotic is a good idea daily.
Alcohol is ok in moderation, find a drink you like without having to add soda drinks or stick to beer.

I would not worry about the reporting etc. Seems like you travel quite a lot. Surely your bigger worry would be becoming a road casualty as Thailand has a very high road annual fatality.
Take care...................
Has ThaiVisa discouraged you from moving to Thailand?

I have been to Thailand many times over the last 10yrs and was planning to retire there. However I am glad I did not do that now after reading Thai visa forum for over a year now. I retired to the Philippines, no hassles with Immigration obtained permanant residence for less than A$60. It appears that Thailand is close to a Police state the latest new law is the Police able to hold your passport for as long as they wish even for a simple minor traffic accident. I don't think the military will ever relinquish power there and if they do they will take it back again at the drop of a red shirt. Don't get me wrong I loved the Thailand I knew but I am sure its not the same now.
