  1. <deleted> Gee I read stuff like this and I am soooo glad I chose to retire in the Philippines. No 90 day reporting, visa runs only every 3 years. Marriage visa takes 2 years and costs only $600 approx. Never see police doing rounds where foreigners hang out checking visa's, only time I see police on the street which is not often, they always smile and say Good afternoon/morning Sir. All taxi drivers speak some English.

Although there may be some truth in some Asian women turning a blind eye to their husband's infidelities, your gross generalization about it being customary for Thai women is nothing but just that... a gross generalization.

Faith in your words about what is a custom for Thai women is further undermined by yourself with your own hyperbole. You have literally claimed that there are at least 200 ("hundreds") Thais in Australia who are "all" confessing their problems to your wife.

I wonder, with such a lifestyle to be listening to the problems of at least TWO HUNDRED people in Australia, how your amazing wife finds time to breathe and put the cat out.

So maybe your wife could make a fortune charging for this clearly much-needed service by people who - according to you - "all" keep a custom and then complain to your wife about it.

What you say has truth in it, but generalizations and hyperbole remove a lot of that truth and tend to replace it with silliness.

She works in a larger type hospital and although she is only a cleaner her vast network of Thai friends come to her to try and gain employment. So much is she respected at work the H.R dept always contact her first when a new employee is required. At last count she had secured employment for over 60 Thai friends. You obviously cannot envision someone with soooo many friends. I have no reason to lie about this so its not hyperbole.

This is a lot of nonsense. It may have happened to you, but you can't apply your own experience to other Thai women.

So you think huh. I would not have posted it if I was not sure of my facts. My ex had hundreds of Thai friends in Australia they all used to confess their problems to her. I heard this scenario over and over again so many times and it convinced me it was the norm. May sound like rubbish to you maybe because you have led a sheltered life and know nothing of real life. You should get out and mix a bit maybe open your eyes.

  4. I am sure you will like this small piece of information. There is a Thai custom that Thai wives do not  mind their husbands having a bit on the side. However there are a couple of strict rules that apply. 1. Never use the same bit more than once or it may appear you are treating her like a real girlfriend. 2. Always use a condom. My ex wife used to make sure my pockets had plenty of condoms and in her words she was well aware I was going to the market. Its a bit like the Japanese custom. They think there is something wrong with their husbands if they do not have a mistress, and they say the husbands return home a much better lover. I would sound your wife out and see if she thinks along these lines.

    Great idea and good luck.

When my wife and I moved over here from Australia, we brought a box full of the green "Woolies" bags and have used them until they passed their use-by date.

At first we got unusual looks and stares, but now around our local village we don't get a second glance when we refuse a plastic bag and just show our "brought from home " bag ready and willing.

Has it made an impact on other people in our village to do the same?......I don't think so.....we need to educate the kids, adults are too set in their ways.

    Cheers.

FYI Those green eco bags actually contain more plastic than several hundred plastic bags. What did you use to put your household food scraps in before chucking them into your garbage bin to be collected. Plastic bags are ideal for this to stop the vermin from getting at it in the bin. Nothing wrong with using biodegradable plastic bags

  6. I was entering Thailand through Don Muang a few years ago with my Thai wife. We were met by a family friend who was a high ranking Police officer. He had 3 subordinate police officers with him. Two of them took our bags and passports and we were escorted through the V.I.P exit. After arriving at our destination having being driven there in a government car. I noticed my passport had not even been stamped. My wife's Australian passport had been stamped and she had been given a 28day visa. Yes I can believe anything can happen passing thru immigration.

How about Philippines then, compare to Thailand?

I have stayed in Thailand many times for a few months at a time, I visited the Philippines and I am still there 2yrs now. Coppywriter is correct the Philippines is better in many ways to Thailand once you get away from Manila. Visa's are easy nothing like the stupid system in Thailand and lots speak English. The only thing wrong in my view is they drive on the right side of the roads which is the wrong side for me.

I eat Thai food about once a week, and that's when I make it, and only for dinner – – pad Thai, Laab Moo, Pad Krapow or the like (sorry about the spelling).

    Typical week would see: –

Breakfast: toast and tea or cereal with diced dried fruit and of course milk.

Lunch: Subway vegetable sandwich or sushi, or if meeting someone in Starbucks, perhaps one of their unhealthy croissants. Plus a large cup of tea.

Dinner: if eating out it will be at my local Italian restaurant and won't be a pizza, but if eating in will be pasta with a home-made tomato, olive, garlic and herb sauce, accompanied by a salad. Occasionally I will make a small pizza with various toppings and this will also be accompanied by a salad. If I'm feeling in the mood I will prepare a few other dishes such as duck with orange sauce, beef bourguignon, chicken stuffed with brie, chicken saagwala and a few Greek dishes with my home-made lamb spiced sausages............I do like experimenting with dishes.

Dinner will always be accompanied by red wine, and whilst this used to be one bottle an evening, I have managed to cut down to about 60% of a bottle now!!

Franken food all of it.cereal and dairy is crap food you need protein like bacon and eggs for breakfast. Go Paleo.

This BS again! How is Thai food healthier than western food ? Everything Thai is fried or overcooked, laced with sugar and oil, even som tam etc is full of sugar and far from healthy, and the size of vegetable portions, if included at all, are tiny.

They cook in the cheapest thin pots, so masses of oil are necessary to stop it sticking anyway, that's just how Thai's like it, oily and sweet!

Compare that to boiled and jacket potatoes, boiled or steamed vegetables and grilled meats and fish, pasta, salads, no comparison, western is way healthier.

Absolute crap. Western food is killing us all. I was married to a Thai lady an expert cook and she ate mostly raw veggies and salads, very little fried food. I myself eat western food but only lightly steamed veggies, no spuds or anything processed. All my meat is stewed with veggies and fish I eat lightly cooked. Basically a plant based diet. If you eat anything from a packet or a tin you are poisoning yourself. Wakeup man  eat real food not frankinfood.

  10. All good advice here, go the tourist visa way but maybe get married in Thailand before you leave. Once in Aussie get married and then apply for a Bridging Visa. Avoid all agents even the Thai agents in Aussie as they even rip Thai people off not just Ferangs. Before you go to Aussie gather up all kinds of evidence of your cohabitation and find all your old airline tickets and any receipts to prove you have been a regular visitor to Thailand. Get photo's of you both at landmarks etc in Thailand with time and date on them. You should have no problem also take her medical records with you as she will have to undergo a medical exam this is to make sure she will not be a burden on Medicare. Chok Dee

  11. My son suffered from tinitus for a couple of years then he went completely deaf at the age of 30yrs. Worst part is he can still hear the ringing/hissing noise but nothing else. I have done lots of research over the 14yrs since he went deaf and I am sorry to say I didn't find anything to help him. But what I did find out is you have to get it looked at as early as possible if you are to be helped with it.
