But it's not just Brexit that's causing the GBP to be weak, all major currencies (AUD, USD, SGD) are down against the THB so other factors (e.g. Trade War with China) are hurting it also.

 

IMHO this decade of Quantitative Easing is what has damaged €, £ and $ against other currencies.

The day those countries will stop, their currencies will quickly go up against THB.

But we are waiting for that to happen since 2013...

So, except if Thailand start the same kind of policy or is actively willing to lower the value of the THB, i think we will continue to lose on the exchange rate for the next years and maybe more.

Hi,

Planning to cross the border on Tuesday morning from Pakse with the 8.30 AM bus, then take a flight to Bangkok.

I'd prefer landing in BKK as Pattaya is my final destination.

The only afternoon option is the 14.10 Thai smile flight.

Could someone who use regularly this bus tells me if have big chance to get this flight, means leaving Pakse at 8.30 a,d then getting a taxi or tuk tuk at Ubon Bus station and being at check in around 13.10.

The other option would be a nok air flight at 14.55 but landing in don mueang.

Yes i understand this part of the law.

Just would have like to get infos from people in my future situation to know if they had to justify that this money was already in their foreign account the year before being transfered to Thailand.

Thing is, let's say I sell some shares or withdraw from a saving account to transfer in my Thai account in Thailand (buying condo, paying elite visa ...)

This money was earned years ago but produce interest or dividends on a yearly / monthly basis.

Could I be liable to pay taxes then if  I have the Thai fiscal residency?

I am a 43 years old French national and French Tax resident.

I have been staying quite a long time in Thailand since autumn 2015 on Tourist Visas and Visa exemptions and I have decided now to apply for the Elite Visa.

I don't work anymore I live on my savings and get a fair amount of interests, dividends and capital gains every years.

So, i will become Thai tax resident, staying french resident makes no sense due to the amount of taxes you have to pay there if living on passive income.

This raises some questions the first is:

I certainly have enough saving to live in Thailand one year and more without relying on my passive income.

Now if i transfer any large sums money to my thai bank to pay for the elite visa, buy a condo or even fund my daily expenses will I have to prove that this money was not earned that year to avoid being taxed?

Any help from people in that situation appreciated.

I finally asked my hotel to order a taxi for me as I found out, reading different forums that they usually use the counter in Ubon.

There was no issue, paid 40 from the counter and an additional 30 that is, I suppose, for the pickup (the driver was speaking 0 English and showed me 70 on his phone).

This is cheaper than the grab quote when I did a simulation last night, so overall a good experience with Ubon taxi.

I am in Ubon City Center and need to catch a flight departing tomorrow morning at 8.40AM.

Will it be an issue to get in a reasonnable amount of time a grab driver to come to my hotel around 7.00AM?

As i have wrote and experienced, spending 1 or 2 month in Malaysia or any neighbouring country and showing up again at DMK is not working to make them happy.

OP, i am in a similar situation: enough cash for staying in Thailand for years without working and living in the country for many many months since october 2015.

Last summer i have been pulled out of the queue in DMK even though i was out for more than 2 months and spoke to like i was a bad kid but luckily not deported.

After being in an angry frustrated state like you : "how they dare treating me like  that with the amount of money i spend  in their country" i did a reality check :

- the money you have in your bank account does not matter

- using airports as a hint your are not broke does not matter

- spending months in neighbouring country as a hint that you do not work illegaly in Thailand does not matter.

As a poster in Thai Visa said one time: the majority of the people here don't need us and they don't want to see us staying around for a long time in their country.

Now, i use land borders and does not leave anything of value in Thailand, knowing that one day it will probably become difficult there as well.

My plan is that when this time will come, if i am still enjoying spending my time here, I will probably go the elite route one time and then i should be eligible for the retirement visa.

I think you need to do a reality check as well and plan accordingly.

The Elite visa because of your history of overstay is unlikely to work.

Living with your girlfriend and your future child in a neighbouring country with a different language, far from her family ... well ... i don't know your and her precise personal situation but it seems unlikely to be a viable option.

So, you probably get 2 more months in Thailand with the land crossing, then what?

I don't know a lot about visa based on marriage but it looks like the best plan.

Ok, everything went smoothly at BKK airport.

20 minutes were needed for the paperwork and the stamps transfer.

No stress for me as i was there well in advance on purpose, but people need to think about it if they have to fly early.

It was ok without e-visa, however i will point out for people interested in the subject that i had a 5 minutes interview with the airline check-in staff in BKK because of the absence of return ticket.

When was the last time you went in cambodia, how long will you stay, show me your hotel booking, where you go next, etc etc...

Well, my fault, i was going to do the e-visa thinking it was 24 hours to get it in all cases but then i've seen some reports of unlucky customers who had to wait more than 4 days...

I'm confident that it will be ok at the airport.

Worst case i will buy a (probably useless) ticket out of the country in BKK if i get troubles at check-in...

French Passport holder, going to arrive Siem Reap on a Friday Evening (18.40) via Bangkok Airways. 

I haven't been in cambodia for more than a year.

For a smooth travel, i have few questions.

1) No return ticket, would Bangkok Airways make any trouble at check in? Would it be advisable in that case to get e-visa?

2) Should i expect huge queue at SR immigration for VOA on a friday evening? In that case would it be worth paying the 6$ extra for e-visa?

3) I will probably book accomodation via airbnb for that trip. Is it looking for trouble to give an airbnb host address to immigration instead of hotel adress?

Sorry, i have an other question,:

I am currently on an extension of my tourist Visa.

The extension is on the old corner cut passeport.

I understand that when you leave the country, the immigration at the border transfers the stamps with the dates into the new passeport.

Can you confirm that they are able to transfer the extension that has not been done at the border but in the local immigration office.
