At Least the Tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn is honest in his statement about this virus topic. “We want your money!!“

Never argue with a fool, he will pull you down to his level and beat you with his experience!! Pathetic killers!!

That says it all for me.
.... it doesn’t actually mean, that it’s the motorcycle driver’s fault..... Although, seeing some them driving makes you wonder why they are still alive....

Respectively, Keith101, It's not the Baht, or the sunken boat that has crippled tourism.
Very few in Thailand understand what attracts a tourist from another country.
The real problem is Thailand refuses to bring in a real expert who know tourism. Bring in someone with experience in Las Vegas or New York City. Then listen and implement their suggestions.
So, what do tourist want?
A good experience at a reasonable price. β100 prices won't do it if the experience is poor.
The experience is poor because:
*Tourists are no longer welcomed. In Phuket, beach policy is very restrictive.
*Timing. If Thailand has a good attraction, it needs to be promoted for at least 3 months and then be in effect for at least 6 months. Good tourists plan ahead. Any promotion which is announced a month ahead of time, then expires after a month or two, will surely fail.
*Unsafe. No enforcement of laws and tourists aren't treated fairly.
*Rip-offs. From taxis to tuk-tuks, to two tier and price gouging.
*High Baht exchange rate. While β100 isn't enough to attract anyone, a 17% rise in the Baht certainly will cost a tourist substantially.
*Eliminating tourist attractions.
Things will never change until someone in Thailand takes it seriously.
Another big problem is the lack of communication within their own departments. Unfortunately, nothing is straight forward here. It would definitely be a good idea to have tourism experts from other countries come here and help them. It would certainly turn out be a win-win situation.

The “trolly dollies”, as you call them, are there to save your <deleted> should something happen. Not very funny, sir!!

Never argue with a fool (in this case “the most stable genius“)..... he will pull you down to his level and beat you with his experience!!

Insurance companies are the second biggest crooks in the world and they are owned by the biggest crooks in the world..........banks.
This reminds me of the way these institutions work. A bank, for example, lends you an umbrella. But once it starts raining, they want it back!!

Driving at night is fine so long as your alert, one could argue it's even safer due to much fewer vehicles on the roads...
...it all depends on where you live, JaLai. This definitely does not apply to Phuket or the family vacation capitol, Pattaya

Dear Prime Minister, it all begins with a descent education and the willingness to do your work accurately in order to become “high income” country (not only for the elite).

If it makes you feel better the landlord could do a screenprint of your report but a receipt will not be asked for as immigration can see the entry in the online system.
A SETV is done outside Thailand and nothing to do with TM30 or checking if one was filed during another visit.
..... not so in Phuket!! The competent official wanted a print out. Make a screen shot to be on the safe side. If you want to print it out you must do it quickly, only possible for a max of 7 days after registration.....

No matter what speed limit the government will impose..... nobody cares. Sad, but true!!

Since the last comment is dated back to April 2014, it would be nice to have an update on this topic. Is it only my imagination, or is the service getting worse (especially on the biggest island of Thailand)?

Yep the Thai have the tent check points they just sit talk drink kinda a little party not sure what they really do TIT
I‘ve been trying to understand this myself. Officers facing away from the traffic with their heads buried in their cell phones. Surely, there must be an explanation.....

So sad and yet the daily carnage will continue. Thailand, please wake up and admit that you can not handle this issue yourself. Next step would be asking for help from the global community in tackling this incredible homemade problem. It is IMO the only way you will stop these unnecessary deaths on Thailands roads. I would even think, that there are many farangs willing to help in this matter without being paid.......

Please come to Phuket and do the same!! P L E A S E ! ! !

No matter if the Chinese tourists will come back, or not. Most of us are happy at the moment that we can breathe freely, without these unsafe and stinking tour buses on the streets here in Phuket!!
