  1. I don't know so I'm asking --

Isn't the Customs Bureau primarily concerned with goods which are trying to enter the Kingdom?

Am I supposed to take great comfort in believing that all pirated intellectual property being sold here is homegrown?

So even if it's true that:

More than 30 million baht worth of DVDs, purses, clothes, liquor, watches, and cosmetics were seized in the raid.

How are we to be sure that the pirated goods we are buying on the streets and sois of Thailand are the real McCoy -

    Genuine Thai copies -

& not these sleazy cut-rate imported seized-and-resold-and-soon-to-be-re-resold fakes?

I just don't know who to trust anymore.

    Someone didn't pay off :o:D:D

  2. :D They did it in Melbourne for the CHOGM conference, they did it in Sydney for the Olympics, it is not a measure peculiar to Thailand in my opinion... :D dukkha

They used to do it in L.A. and other cities in the U.S.Then the civil liberties people(ACLU) stopped it.Now LA is over run with homeless.I feel they got what they wanted.I wouldn't live there, rather disgusting.Good for the ACLU though.Of course most of the ACLU don't go near the homeless, they just want everybody else to put up with it.They always cleaned up for the olympics etc. :o:D:D

  3. Im going to be landing in BKK and trasnfering to the domestic terminal to fly to Samui. I have 90 minuetes between landing to get my bag, go through customs and get to my next flight. Is this a reasonable amount of time to trasfer planes?

If you miss a plane catch the next one. They run almost every hr.Low season too! :o:D

  4. Hey

I was actually speaking with the Consular General in Wash. DC yesterday as I am presently in the USA (5 years), and am a British Citizen and will be coming to Thailand to open an Asia Office in either 2007 or 2008.

The gentleman told me that at present, I would have to have a return ticket to Thailand from the USA, a letter from my company in the US stating my intentions my Green Card (LPR) my UK Passport and the passport pics. and the fee, which is presently $ 125. He said it would be about 3 days for issuance and would be a 12 Month Multi Entry Non Immigrant B visa. I specifically asked about the Criminal Background Check, as there would be no problem for me getting the FBI Background check done, but getting a UK check would mean me returning to the UK. He said, there is no requirement for a background check, if applying for a Non Immigrant Visa.

So, I don't know why your friend was asked to produce a background check.

As it happens, I will probably return to the UK before going to Thailand, so I will probably be applying for the Visa in London.

    Regards

    Peter

They asked for it and he got it.LA office.

  5. Give your Immigration Office a phone call and tell them your story. I have always found the staff to be friendly and most helpful. Last month I rang to say I had forgotten to send in my 90 day report, the first time in nearly four years. "No problems" they said, "get down here after the holidays, pay your 2,000 baht fine, and we will start you off again." All very friendly, even if it did cost me 2,000 baht.

Your next 90 day report must be due quite soon. Fill in a new 90 day report and get ready to send that too. :o

I never missed a 90 day but if I did I would just let it ride same fine for being 1 day late or 6months.Any comments?

  6. It is amazing how bad services can still be! I work on HIV projects (not in Thailand though) and the horror stories like you describe never end. :o

Do you have any idea how much it will be at Bumrungrad? I want a screen for STIs as well as HIV. Will you make an appointment or just do walk-in?

I have one with my yearly at Bumrungrad.(NEGATIVE).You can get it alone results in 1 hr.,doesn't cost much and you know they tested .Someplaces take blood tell you negative and never test. :D:D:D:D

  7. I just wonder at the AAA rating, with the US debt, deficit, and the Iranian bourse going EU, etc. ad infinitum.

Will a wind blow that will make the USD ugly no matter the rate margin, and topple the card house?

If the U.S. has problems the whole world is in trouble. The U.S. rules the economic world, and is the only country that can stand on it's own. They aren't the richest country in the world by accident. :o:D:D

  8. I dont see why a farang cant win it? There is no reason why they wouldnt pay up, I think people just like to expect the worse from Thai's

The saying goes if a Thai was on his death bed and won the lottery he would go collect before trusting anybody to do it for him.I hope this answers your question, besides you just have a number give it to me I will collect for you. :D:D:D:D:D

So your saying that you should never trust a thai person???

    No,my prior posts said I trust one Thai.Actually I don't trust anybody. :o:D:D

  10. if you make the effort you will pick up, don't be disheartened, at times it feel very difficult but stick at it and you will be fine, once your sourrounded by native speakers you learn the language much more quickly, good luck

Been here 14 yrs and know 14 Thai words. It is more important that my girlfriends learn English(and they do).I am not shy I get what I want without talking.Just me and I get along rather well.Money talks and Thai speakers sometimes walk. :o:D:D:D

  11. Of course insurance cover property damage. If he has the legal insurance and drives into your car (and of course paid the insurance, has a drivers license, wasn't drunk and all the other usual exceptions) then it covers up to, i think 100,000 baht property damage, 1,000,000 personal damage. This is for cars, bikes are somewhat less as they're assumed to not cause as much damage. But there is coverage. Check with your insurance agent if you don't believe me.

    Most don't have insurance :o:D:D

  12. ... I am sure not all Thai people are cowards ...

    Kuhn Alexander[

Alexander, please try to not let this eat you up inside. Accidents happen, and some people run away when they are to blame. You'll probably never see him again and it won't make your life here any happier here searching every face in the crowd trying to find him. If he is Buddhist, then "Waen Gam".

Try to forget him and move on. Best wishes for your wife's recovery.

Even if they stayed you wouldn't get 10 baht from them. They may want you to pay them.Let them run, your better off. :o:D:D

  13. I got respect for ya tutsi but I never understood the fascination with people getting tattoos. I mean like you could be importing some tall boys and slamming em down nana way instead

Everybody should have at least one tat :o:D:D:D

  14. I'm gonna be 56 y.o. soon an' I always wanted to get a tat...not just some little emblem but like twin dragons coming down the arms...or a landscape on my back. I've noticed that the skin on my arms is sagging a bit these days, but not to the extent that a tat could not be supported without embarrasment...for the next few years...

    help ol' tutsi out...

Have the artist intentionally exaggerate the the height of the design. Then, as you sag more....the image itself becomes more normal.

    .....jus a thought

If you get them over 50 they don't sag and the color lasts longer.Been there done that.I have a great dragon! :o:D:D:D

  15. Dr. Pepper...whats the worst that can happen? Maybe a failure of the thermos during the procedure?

    Hepatitis

    HIV

    Septicaemia

To name just a few :D

Get new throw away needles, some people worry about everything.I feel sorry for them.Do it!!!!!!! :o:D:D

Forum brethern...has anyone had a tat when over 50 y.o.?...old enough to know better, perhaps but wild enough in de haid to say 'fuggit...lets do it'...any distortions to the image regarding old and sagging skin?

I would select the design carefully...I have a low pain threshehold and would carry a litre thermos of vodka to ease the pain. We're not talking about a 'gettin' drunk and gettin' a tat' scenario here...the activity shall be with all true deliberation...

    help ol' tutsi out...

I got my first scratch at 16yrs old.My second for my 50th birthday. Then a few more, all can be hidden from inspection by Gov officals(customs etc.).Go for it I never regretted any.I notice people don't bother me when they see the tats. :o:D:D:D

  17. I doubt it

I play it and thought about it.There is only one Thai in the country I would trust to collect for me(don't want taxes in my country).Yes one in the whole country. But don't worry the chances of winning big are slim and none.Remember when you could buy one ticket? Now you have to buy two.It doesn't increase the odds of you winning, just doubles the cost.I can't pick two numbers but I still buy when I see a ticket cut in half.It is a suckers game. :o:D:D

  18. The Labour Ministry puts on hold daily minimum wage adjustment

The Labour Ministry will not adjust daily minimum wages at the moment but will find ways to increase welfare for labourers.

Caretaker Labour Minister Somsak Thepsuthin (สมศักดิ์ เทพสุทิน) said the wages had already been increased twice last year so another adjustment this year might add a burden on employers who may finally have to shut down their businesses.

Mr. Somsak said he had ordered the Social Security Office to prepare welfare assistance measures for submission to the cabinet for consideration.

Mr. Somsak added that daily expenses of workers have jumped to more than 200 baht.

Source: Thai National News Bureau Public Relations Department - 01 June 2006

Raise the minimun wage? The big shots have to pay for their high life styles.Never will happen! :o:D

  19. The whole thing is TINK TONK! In this land of official xenephobia, investing, is like dropping a gold coin in the desert sands, the more you try to retreive it; the further it sinks!

    Very well put,

I've always been inclined to rent instead of own, so it's a none issue to me, keeps my mobility unencumbered, :D

If you only rented all your life ,you lose the landlord wins.Only loser's never buy.Haven't you heard about inflation and property increasing. As far as Pattaya you can keep it all. :D:o:D
