  1. Hello Aaron.

It beggars belief that the BH can threaten to keep your daughter if you don't settle your bill.

I hope you can raise the funds to clear the bill.

    Surely their action is illegal!

Good luck & update us. :D

Whether illegal or not it is common practice for hospitals in Thailand to do this. My wife's sister after giving birth had a 30kB bill and the hospital would not let her leave until paid. The same happened to my wife when she was out of town (different hospital) and had an emergency and I had to transfer some funds to get her out of the hospital.

And it does beggar belief in all these cases.

They solved the problem, they make everybody pay up front now.Too many dead beats skipping out on bills making it harder on everybody else.No money no fixee. :o:D:D:D

  2. I have also experienced this kind of treatment at Bumrungrad. And there was no question of payment - they just did not have the bill ready and delayed 5 hours. Then when credit card was used for payment they used a special set up to convert baht to dollars at a very poor exchange rate and bill credit card in USD. Needless to say I will never use that hospital again.

You can have the bill in baht, all you have to do is ask,Ignorance is bliss. :D:D

Need to actually read the posts. He said the bill was in baht but his card was probably in dollars. :D

You get the bill in baht charge to your card and get the visa rate which is better.2 n 2 equals 4

I read it do I have to explain everything?/I do it all the time :o:D:D

  4. I have been thinking about having laser eye treatment for a while now and next week i am going to make an appointment to have my eyes checked out and get a price for the treatment. Has anyone had this done in Thailand or even in there own country? Any advice etc is welcome.

    Thanks Noodles.

I had it done in the 70's in the states, still have 20/ 20.I am glad I did it.I highly recommend it.Threw out all the glasses, contacts etc.I am sure it is advanced since then. :o:D

  5. Had a look to try and find like minded threads, but only people from other countries discussing finances.

What I feel I need is what are the pitfalls and common mistakes. ( some threads maybe)

    Thanks

HONEST??? I thought I was set for life after my second marriage. No difference accross countries of the world. Women want; and will leave; if THEY are not happy. Men just take it in the nuts. ( DO SOUND BITTER?)

Last time I was in my thirties and knew deep down life would get better and I would get another chance. This time at my age in the UK there is nothing for someone who is over 50 nothing at all.

Anything is better than a UK woman. :o:D:D

  6. I have been working in Bangkok for nearly 5 years . Next year I hit 65 and was looking forward to receiving an Australian Pension. Initial enquiries show I may be very disappointed having been told I must return to Australia get the pension and stay for 2 years. After that they will lodge pension in any nominated bank.. words used were "after 2 years we dont care where you live"

After being a continuos tax payer in Aus for 42 years I am appalled at this requirement if correct. Apparently Thailand does not hace reciprocal rights with Australia unlike Germany ,UK etc.

I have recently married and to move to Australia would obviously mean my Thai wife would have to relinquish her job in Finance in which has spent 9 years.

Any information to help would be greatly appreciated

Use an Austrailan bank, and address. It is none of their business where you live.I assume they direct deposit? :o:D

  7. :o

Spent all night out recently (yes, it is still possible to do in BKK). On arrival back home the next morning the wife accused me of playing up, which I denied of course (if I did, I don't think whoever it was would have been very satisfied judging from the headache I had next day).

Anyway, the wife came up with a pretty odd suggestion. She said that if i was going to go out and stay out all night I have to "earn credits" to do so. 15 credits and I can stay out all night once. To earn credits I have to "perform" at home, 1 "performance" = 1 credit.

I'm interested in hearing about any other unusual arrangements which wives/girlfriends have imposed on their husbands/boyfriends in similar circumstances.

I was prepared for the yelling and screaming, objects being thrown, being chased around the condo, having to retrieve objects from the swimming pool, possible surgery, demands to go upcountry and visit the relatives, trips to the gold shop or other shopping extravaganze.....but not this. Totally from left field and knocked me for six.

:D:D:D Maybe her boyfriend is taking care of her while your out?

  8. Just thought I'd share:

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- It could be the ultimate in May-December relationships.

A 33-year-old man in northern Malaysia has married a 104-year-old woman.

The Harian Metro tabloid reported it is the groom's first marriage and the bride's 21st.

The new groom told the paper he found peace and a sense of belonging after meeting the much older woman.

He said he's not after his new bride's money, because she doesn't have any.

She is a Muslim, once they cover up they all look the same. :o:D:D

  9. I also suffer from tinitus from my time in the Oz army but obviously not as serious as you are. I have had my tinitus recognized by Dept of Vet Affairs and received a small pension for this. The main thing is that once its recognised you will receive treatment for it at the depts expence. Whilst in Oz in Jan I had to go for another periodical hearing test and was told of a treatment for this condition. Apparently it is in the form of having a device put into the ear and masking the noise. Not too sure of the specifics of the treatment.

Anyhow if you already havent claimed for it, maybe its worthwihle doing it next time you are back in Oz.

I have had it for years(ex-pilot) just learned to live with it.In my case it gets worse when I don't get a good nights sleep.Been told it is also caused by stress. :o:D:D

  10. After meeting with a couple of health/life insurance companies I'm beginning to wonder if the best path is to stay self insured. Admittedly I'm just in the beginning stages of my research but perhaps some smart person out there has looked into Hospital costs, cost of surgeries, etc., etc. and drawn some conclusions. I'm 49, never smoked, drink very little, perfect blood pressure, general good health.

Health insurance in the states is a must because of the high cost involved with nearly any illness, surgery, etc. ........... but here? :D

Health insurance is like any other insurance not much good until you need it.I don't care how healthy you think you are,you never know. How about if your in an accident? You won't collect from the other party, motorbike or old car hits you. :D:o:D

  11. Beer gardens could soon be a thing of the past

BANGKOK: -- Beer gardens may become a thing of the past if a proposal yesterday by the national subcommittee on alcohol consumption control is approved.

Besides a halt to issuing beer-garden licences, the panel set up by the Public Health Ministry proposed three other measures to control alcohol advertising in a resolution passed at its meeting.

Disease Control Department director Dr Thawat Suntrajarn, president of the subcommittee, said the measures comprised a 24-hour ban on alcohol advertisements in all media, except tie-in adverts in live broadcasts from overseas; a ban on the display of alcohol products, brands and manufacturers’ names in all media; a ban on advertising competitions organised by alcohol companies; and asking the Excise Department to stop issuing licences for beer gardens.

“We see many activities in beer gardens, such as using beer girls, that are kinds of advertisement, so if the Excise Department still allows beer gardens, those promotional activities should be forbidden,” he said.

Thawat said the resolution would be forwarded to the main committee on alcohol consumption control for approval, after which relevant parties such as Chamlong Srimuang, who is heading opposition to the stock-market listing of Thai Beverage Plc – the maker of Chang Beer – would be invited to give their opinions. If the proposal is approved, the Office of the Consumer Protection Board and the Public Relations Department will enforce the new rules, he added.

Jeff Kimble, commercial director of Thai Asia Pacific Brewery Co Ltd – the maker of Heineken beer – said it was difficult for the company to comment on the proposals now. He preferred to wait for details of the restrictions.

A source at a local brewery, who asked not to be named, lamented that the Public Health Ministry would be trying to block brewers from doing business through the new restrictions and was making it seem like alcohol firms were bad guys who are killing people.

“The aim of any controls and restrictions applied to alcoholic beverages is to reduce accidents and promote good health. But this restriction set to eliminate beer gardens is beyond that … It is going to be a campaign to score political points,” the source said.

“I would like to know the real reason why they want to place tough restrictions on our business like this. Anyway, all they have done is fail to address the cause of the problem. They would do better to keep close controls on irresponsible drinkers and revamp the taxation process,” the source said. “Why don’t they prohibit manufacturing entirely?” he said, sarcastically.

Get rid of all the bars and ban tobacco

  12. been back for years but Apple visits me in Bangkok. I just bought her a new pick-up for new years and she drove it to

What is your point? Apple has loads of money already, she owns vast tracts of land in Trang/Krabi, and rubber plantations.

She is also a pimp who exploits girls from poor families. So don't make her out to be some kind of saint!

Why did you buy her a pick-up? It's fruitcakes like you that make these people think that all farangs have buckets of money, and are willing to throw at them.

I would visit you too if you were going to buy me a pick-up! Pillock!

I have known Apple since 1997, knew a girl who worked there for about 3 years, she as crazy, ha ha!

    Your a loser

I agree call me daddy. What is the point cwilliam?

TV is full of a bunch of un-educated cheap charlie losers.

  13. Bali is a Muslim country? First, Bali is not a country, and second, it is primarily Hindu. Figures I have seen are that it has less than 5% Muslim population, with more than 90% following Balinese Hindu tranditions. You might want to re-check your other research facts before moving to Thailand just in case.

Bali is in a Muslim country and surrounded by Muslims. It is a target for Muslims. :o

  14. I'll ask again....

Has anyone out there recently renewed a retirement visa using only proof of income and no significant bank account in Thailand?

Coarse I'm kidding you old dingbat. I mean with all the idiotic comments on this thread, thought I'd add my own. I even laughed out loud when I wrote it. Amazing people will actually react to shlt like this. Fricken moron.

  17. To me this sounds like coming from a different place.

Never experienced anything like this in he 6+ years that I live here.

Also a bit strange that he drags a story into his story about two westerners being murdered which didn't even happen in Samui but sure gives the impression that it did happen on Samui.

Uncohorent rambling in my humble opinion.

He probably owns a business in Phukett.Sent my 2 baht opinion into the post,Maybe it will be in tomorrow-- :o:D It ends with I wonder?
