  1. I'm guessing they might feel alone and neglected, with no one to talk with? No if the thread had been entitled, "What do peole think of replica watches?", or "What do people think of people who buy replica watches?, then perhaps some of these 'humorous' and inane comments would be valid?

i would think that the person who buys and wears a fake rolex , and especially a fake rolex as opposed to other brands , is the person most likely to be alone and neglected , rather than the one posting the inane comments , by the very nature of the wearers obvious personal feelings of insecurity at having to wear a fake expensive wristwatch.

the subject and study of fake watches may very well be interesting to those fascinated by such minutiae , but the study of those who wear them can be even more interesting , as it can reveal so much about the wearer.

rolex , the brand , is associated for better or for worse , with wealth , thrusting dynamism , eliteness and snobbery.

if you want to know if that watch on that persons wrist is a real rolex or not , you dont even need to look at the watch , look at the haircut , or look at the shoes.

its got to the stage these days that even the owners of real rolexes keep them in the drawer these days because they dont want to be associated with birmingham mini cab drivers , yorkshire fish and chip shop owners or plumbers from moosefart , montana.

any forum query will bring forth comments helpful , funny and inane.

just scroll on down if you dont like what you read.

and dont take it all so seriously.

I like the fake watch idea, somebody steals it I get the last laugh :D:o:D

  2. There has been a progressive increase in wealth.

I returned to the UK last year for the first time in over seven years and I was shocked by how much wealth there is about. House prices have risen relentlessly, people are driving around in new cars, sports convertables of the weekend, the latest gadgets, the llates fashion necessity... The UK is increadibly wealthy and it shows.

Sounds like the US. they owe everybody. You don't inherit a house anymore you inherit the home equity loan. :D:o:D

  3. Hi,

Does anyone know of a good butcher in BKK, what does good sausages

, bacon (not the streaky <deleted>), burgers, etc?

Preferably somewhere that will also deliver.

I've just tried ordering about 10 items from that "food glorious food" and they only have 2 in stock, though they are all advertised as availiable on the website  :D

    cheers

    :o Villa Market Sukhumvit Soi 2 or 31. :D:D

I knew it was a scam when the bar girl paid me 1000 baht to finish my drink and walk out of the bar with her.

I knew the scam was continuing when she paid me another 1500 baht in the morning.

Two years later I still believe that I am a victim of her scam but now she has upped her payment every morning to 2500 baht.

I am now up to my neck in her money and it still keeps pouring in.................I just hate scams !!!!  :D

:D:D I knew it was a scam when his lips started to move :o:D

  5. I don't know anything about HSBC, but the banking laws in Thailand allow the banks to charge for everything. I once deposited a check from the United states and they charged me for depositing the check. Figure it out.

    Good Luck.

    Barry

:D I used to put a personal check into Siam City bank and they wouldn't credit it for 2/3 months.I would check on my computer and see they got the funds in a week.I am no longer with them.I guess they think we are all ignorant or fools(or both).I now go to AMX write a check ,get the money like now,and it takes them 2/3 weeks to clear the check. No charge. :o:D

  6. My resolution last year was to quit smoking. Well one year later and i'm still smoke free. This years resolution will be to lose weight.

Merry Xmas and a happy new year to one and all.

    Barry

congrats with the smoking Barry, I'm struggling with the weight thing too :o

    Thanks Bronco,

I think the key is more excercize and eating less carbohydrates, but easier said then done. Good luck.

    Barry

:D Mine is no more New year resolutions :D:D:D

  7. good luck!

But I recommend, also have a look at the other places in Thailand. I am here since 4 years (but half of your age) and for me Pattaya is the worst place to stay.

Only if you are a Sex-o-holic it might be the first choice.

if you have 5 month, have a look at Phuket, Koh Samui, Chang Mai. Maybe you like some of the places better than Pattaya.

Hi my name is whittler/ aka mike, I live in the USA, Indiana. I am 64

retired, and next year I am going to make a test run of 5 months to

Pattaya to see if I would like to live in LOS.

    whittler

:o Agreed that wood be a bad place to test Thailand. :D
  8. I have been a member of TV for a while now coming up for two years I think.. I have never felt the urge to really post on here due to the clique-ness of the site. I read it on a daily basis but just don’t have the urge to risk posting and being jumped on by some of the long term members.

So why is there such an urge to berate and bully new members and give sarcastic advise to them? Time and time again is see people threatening to tell somebody else about something that has been said get them ‘banned’ or ‘officially warned’.

Just curious to know why this forum is so much more inaccessible to new people.

:D:D Good post.Thailand is full of double standards and TV is no exception. They really get on me but I enjoy it.Thousands of posts? They have my sympathy,I guess it is cheap entertainment.I have been here a long time(see posts not many)I get bored I look at TV.I wrote into Bangkok post and the Nation for years.50% hate me 50% like me.I just tell it like it is and let the chips fall. They don't pay my rent! :o They should have a NOT SORRY sign.

  9. :D

If you have bargained the price down to the last baht

    then a surcharge is reasonable.

If you are paying the marked price then say no and start to walk out.

If the shopkeeper has any common sense he will call you back.

I know "common sense" is not usually available in Thailand :D

    but you might get lucky.

:D:D I have done a lot of walking, but if I really need something I pay.I now book all air tickets online. They get greedy and they lose.Satang wise Baht foolish. To me it is the same as stealing 1 baht or 100 baht. What do I know ,I am just a retired cop.Been there done that. :o:D:D:D:D

  10. The best way to lose friends is to lend them money, or in Kayo's case, extend credit to them. (same thing really)

Having lent money to someone, there is nothing worse than having to remind them to pay it back. That's usually when things start getting nasty.

If you are a bar/restaurant owner, you should display a sign stating that no credit will be given.

You should be strict about the application of that rule. If friends complain, then you couldn't classify them as good friends.

I know of some kind hearted Pattaya bar owners who are the greatest people and who often go out of their way to privately help their customers, but if those customers buy drinks/meals, they are expected to pay before they leave the premises.

Don't let kindness interfere with common sense, particularly in business.

If you own a bar and lend money to a customer you lose money and customer. :o

  11. :D I thought when you make a contract (businesses) with a credit card company you agree not to charge extra for the service.A lot of places hit you for extra.I know it costs them, but why do the credit card companies not cancel them if they get complaints?Maybe I am wrong? :D:D:o
  12. i have a  Canadian friend .. he  told  me  that his  farang friend  has a TH  missus ..

the  guy cant speak TH (understand only few words)

the  girl can't speak Eng (and  dont understand any word)

    it just like

Farang Guy - Im  hungry , Could  you cook something for me,please?

Thai Girl  - Mai reed pah , nuay  ( i dont iron cloths , im tried)

    :D

Sounds great cuts down on the arguments :D:D:D:o

  13. I say the Sheraton Grande on Sukhumvit.  Pricey at about 900 Baht but has all the traditional foods and even Indian!  They have a great Indian Chef.  Nice live music, on the skytrain route and a decent and not too expensive wine list.  800 for a decent bottle of Australian or Chilian Chardonay.

    :D Sheraton buffet 1800 ++ now INFLATION :o

    That is for xmas eve

  15. :D:D When I used to make visa runs I went to Nepal trekking twice a year.I stopped when all the trouble started.I sure miss it.Anybody been trekking in Nepal lately?Thinking of going in April. :o:D:D
  16. Thai papers are about 8 baht. Typical rip-off Thailand. Shit doesn't go up inline with inflation, shit goes up at a ridiculous rate in whacking great chunks. The hotels are getting ridiculous: take pai for example - I used to stay at the Sunhut quite a bit but have just learned that they have increased rates by 300%!! Extortion, it's going on everywhere. Beer is also an absolute rip-off here after tax...whinge, whinge. Still, wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Happy Christmas :D  :D

:o Speaking of rip offs the Marriott went from 900 baht to 2200 for xmas eve dinner.Looks like all the big hotels are doing the same, you can't tell me they didn't get together.Mcdonalds anyone? :D:D:D

I drank with the locals,Mafia and police

how did you know they were mafia when you were drinking with them?

did they talk like al pacino with a thai accent

did they show you their guns.

did they eat a lot of spaghetti.

    did they have fat cheeks.

did they introduce themselves as mafia.

did they take their washing home for mama to do.

were there a lot of them , with moustaches and hats all sat around discussing hits.

or are you just another wannabe hard case dork falang with an overworked imagination who comes out with nonsensical crap like... "I drank with the locals,Mafia and police" expecting "ooohs" and "aaaaahs" from your peers.

:D Just my reply to those bad mouthing Samui. As I said lived there 6 years knew a lot of people you probably couldn't figure it out :o

  18. The French Tennis Open for this year has been canceled due to a National crisis.

They have plenty of rackets...but no balls!!

    ******

Q: Why don't they have fireworks at Euro Disney?

A: Because every time they shoot them off, the French try to surrender.

    ******

Q: What do you call a Frenchman advancing on Baghdad?

    A: A salesman.

    and the piece de resistance.......

    Dear Abby:

I am a crack dealer in New Jersey who has recently been diagnosed as a carrier of the HIV virus. My parents live in a suburb of Philadelphia and one of my sisters, who lives in Bensenville, is married to a transvestite.

My father and mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana and are currently dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Jersey City.

I have two brothers. One is currently serving a non-parole life sentence in Attica for murder of a teenage boy in 1994.The other brother is currently being held in the Wellington Remand Center on charges of sexual misconduct with his three children.

I have recently become engaged to marry a former Thai prostitute who lives in the Bronx and is still a part time "working girl" in a brothel.

All things considered, my main problem is this. I love my fiancée and look forward to bringing her into the family and I certainly want to be  totally honest with her. Should I tell her about my distant cousin who is French?

    A bien tot....

Look up French victories on google and select feeling lucky :o:D:D

i dont want to transfer my pension to Thailand is that, that it cost alot of money and the thaibanks never book the money at the same date, but at the date when the exchange rate is good for them

I had a similar experience some years ago with a remittance to a Thai Farmers Bank account (have boycotted that bank ever since). All other times, my remittances got credited to the Thai bank account (am using Bangkok Bank and Bank of Ayudhya) on the same day the amount is debited to my Swiss bank account or at the latest on the following working day.

One thing to look out for is that your Thai bank should be a correspondent bank of your home (German) bank for the currency (EUR) you transfer. In other words, your German bank should have an EUR account with your Thai bank. If this is not the case, the remittance gets routed through an intermediary bank and this may delay the transaction and also incur additional bank fees.

But talking about pensions, I always understood that the requirement is for funds in a Thai bank OR proof of income (in your case an embassy letter confirming your pension amount) OR a combination of both. In the case of a pension, I thought you could leave the money in your account abroad and remit to Thailand, or withdraw in Thailand from ATM machines, whatever you need at a time. Wait for Lopburi or somebody to confirm if this is so.

:D I have retire visa all funds in the states,no problem. :o:D

  20. In 1995-96, it was reputed that the craziest girls were in that bar, the one on the corner....I remember these two scandinavian blokes, who went there every year for 1 month and stayed in Apple, and were drunk 24 hrs a day, she use to "protect them" and take care of them....I went back a couple of years ago, after having left in 1997....I didn't recognise any of the places, it has all been torn down and rebuilt...The only landmarks I recognised were the mushroom bars..Sakura bar :o , Lugano, Bauhaus...

I remember the Swedes they sure were good customers for her.She took good care of them. She now has two other bars and does a little real estate. One is across from Mcdonalds and the other by the boxing ring. She has a lot of repeat business speaks well of her.I passed out in her bar once(low blood sugar) woke up in the hospital and Apple was holding my money.Had a lot was leaving for Bangkok the next day,not a baht missing. :D

  21. As a prior expat resident of Samui, I'm still amazed that there is no reporting on the darker side of Samui and the fact that the police are powerless to stop it. Just last week, the same mafia shooter "Gao", that shot and almost killed me in Mar. 2005 was back on the streets on bail and shot and killed a local policeman and shot an English tourist during a shooting spree in Solo pub.  I have been back in the US recoverying from my injuries and have wanted to return to Samui, but apparently the Justice system does not apply to the Samui Mafia families with enough money.  This same shooter I was told by locals killed 2 men on Koh Phanang just last month also.  I am still awaiting the Samui court system to bring this bad man to trial, but I feel like this will never happen.  I would like to know how many other Samui expats are aware of this violent criminal activity going on. I certainly was not until I happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Any thoughts on how to rid this beautiful place of these people before they make it where no tourists will visit.  Anyone wanting more information can contact me on my e-mail at [email protected]

    Kris P.

    good post.

I was involved in a drunken argument last time on Samui with a local. On my way home that night I was hospitalised in a hit-and-run road 'accident'. :D

I cant say if the 2 are linked whatsoever but the rumours of Mafia control and hitmen certainly had me paranoid. It was the first time I felt uncomfortable on Samui.

    :o:D Drunken argument and driving home?Your fault,sorry.

Where does it say that the OP was driving ?

Hit and Run usually denotes a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle, and the driver of the aforementioned vehicle not stopping to give his/her details to the police/victim.

    :D

:D Driving or walking drunk equals a fool. :D:D

He didn't give enough details hit &run can be both.He did say drunken argument nuff said :D
