  1. Well, well, well - I actually received an answer - which did nothing to enamour me to True!

  2. Have you paid the fee for having two tv's connected to one box.

Yes, they have a fee for that.

Just connect one via HDMI and one via component cable or composite cable.

We were never asked to pay a fee and this was set up by True themselves.

This was just a link with the main sat receiver in the bedroom and a repeater in the living room. We could not watch different channels at the same time.

I appreciate your suggestion but the sets are too far apart for that to be feasible and even then you would only be able to change channels in one location. The new box does not come with the necessary connections that were standard in the old box.

  3. True asked us to go and change our existing set top sat receiver to a new digital receiver Fair enough.

However, we run two televisions off the one box with a True installed link - one in the living room and one in the bedroom.

Having changed the box they then told us we could not do this with the digital box so said I would rather keep the old one. The reply is that if we do not change, then after the New Year we will not get any signal at all. So i now have a service I do not want (digital has no interest for me)but I cannot watch the televisions as before. The staff is the Samui shop can only smile and giggle as though they got something over on me. Of course an email to Bangkok has been ignored. So cable for the wife and UKTV for me seems to be the answer. What a load of tossers!

  4. I emailed TT&T Bangkok about this and to their credit they phoned me back within the hour.

Their explanation is that the lines are leased from TOT and whilst they are the service provider they are acting as an agent for TOT in collecting the payment hence the counter charge. Apparently if I had gone direct to TOT and paid them, there would have been no charge.

And yes I did get a proper receipt (inc VAT) for the 5 Baht when I paid.

I had four more bills due today - 2 TOT and 2 TT&T.

Went to the TOT Office in Bophut. No additional charge for any of the bills.

So paying TT&T is the same as paying at a 7-11 but 5 Baht cheaper!!

    Wonderful Thailand!

  6. Usually pay all telephone bills by internet banking and expect to be charged 10 Baht per bill.

Pay electric and water at the 7-11 and expect to pay 10 Baht per bill.

However, TT&T bills did not arrive this month so I went to their office opposite Makro and they charged me 5 Baht for each bill for the pleasure of paying my bills in cash, on time and to them directly.

I am not too bothered about 5 Baht - but how can they justify this?

    Another official Thai rip off.

  7. Cannot believe this is even remotely true.

After Tesco opened (and before the expansion) the Chaweng store had the unbelievable record of the highest sales per square metre of any Tesco store in Thailand. That was information I received at the time from one of the Bangkok Farang semior managers. That of course prompted the expansion. Even with todays logistical problems they are doing pretty well so there is no reason why the would even consider closing down. Another one if these typical nonsense island rumours.

  12. The new rates are as follows:

    0 150 2.7628 150 414.42

    151 400 3.7362 18 67.25

    401 onwards 3.9361 0.00

    Service fee 38.22

    168 519.89

    Levy (0.0600) (10.08)

    509.81

    VAT 7 % 35.69

    Bank fee

    Rounding

    Billed amount 545.498

I sent my latest PEA bill

If you wish to chat in person I am happy to oblige

    Cheers

Thank you. Appreciate that. Where did this information come from?

  13. Before I go through the tortuous process of asking the PEA for an explanation -

Has anyone seen a new tariff for domestic electricity rates?

The PEA Web Site must be well out of date - it still shows

1.1.2 Consumption exceeding 150 KWh. per month 40.90

    First 150 KWh. (0 - 150) 1.8047

    Next 250 KWh. (151 - 400) 2.7781

    Over 400 KWh. (401 - up) 2.9780

    which used to be correct.

However, none of the bills we have received recently can be calculated using this tarif.

I am not referring to the changed negative surcharge figure but to the calculation of the NET charge before other add ons and vat.

  14. They gave my first one years ago after about all but finish building my house lo. The amount of discounts was a few baht & sometimes satangs. Then at one stage, you had to spend Bht 12,000 to get one, still you hardly get anything off, unless you accumulate your points to get the big discount, I can hardly believe you got 50% with no credit points.

I just spent over 200K & got , wait for it 1 bonus point, because I used a credit card. Never told me the condition, not to worry.

I was somewhat surprised as well, but when I showed her my card and before she put the number in, she asked if I wanted the points or a discount. I asked how much was the discount and I thought she said 15% which was OK, but when she rang it up on the till I could see it was 50%. TIT I suppose.

  15. If you decide on HomePro, make sure you get one of their HomePro Cards

Do you know anything more about this? I get asked if I have a card every time I am in there. I once was about to ask for the application form for the card and the girl at the till told me I had to BUY the card for something like 2,000 THB. I thought this was odd, so didn't bother following it through. Maybe a little confusion on my part? Or her English? It isn't important, but it would be nice to know that you can get one just like the Tescos card.

I have had mine for a while now so cannot remember the exact requirements. We were buying a reasonable amount from them so maybe what she was saying was that you get one when you spend more than Baht 2,000 which we had done. Worth asking again.

  16. Having been here for ten years now I would agree that the Thai males in particular are getting less friendly. We have lived in our present house now for nearly four years. There is a small mini-market shop across the road and when my Thai wife is away I have the daughter there do my laundry and the retired father cut my hair every month. A few weeks ago my wife went to buy some ice - 5 Baht. The son (who sits all day in the shop watching television or drinking in the shop at night with his buddies) refused saying we did not shop there and the ice was reserved for their customers. So for the sake of 5 Baht both the father and the daughter have lost the small custom I brought to the shop forever.

There is no logic to this as one would expect here, but this is part of the problem. We have a lazy young man with no skills who resents the fact that other people have money and his one moment of power is to refuse to sell ice to us. The daughter slaves from morning to dusk washing and ironing and the old man helps cutting hair. The daughter was always pleasant as was the old man - but this young man is a lost cause.

  17. Three or four years ago Air Asia bought 600 Rai at Don Sak for exactly this purpose but gave up on the idea. They were going to run a high speed ferry between Don Sak and Koh Samui.

When Bangkok Airways redeveloped the existing airport they created the Samui Airport Property Fund which sold out at 10.9 Billion Baht with reported earnings of 10.9%. This fund effectively paid for the new airport although the runway was already there. Who is contributing to that - the passengers as we well know.

Now building a new airport would not be cheap if it is going to be big enough to handle the larger aircraft and meet international aviation standards. Who is going to fund this? Do Samui Residents have that amount of money to invest? (Maybe we should ask the taxi drivers to stump up!) It can only be done by Thais (in my opinion) partly of course due to land ownership issues but also because powerful political forces would be needed to see this through.

  18. I think there is a company on Koh Tao that does it using remote controlled helicopters. I will check with the guy later ?

Both the companies that did his before used remote controlled helicopters, but they have gone. Please let me know if you find out anything further. Thank you.

  19. thanks for the tip off tropicalevo, i will nip down the office and see about the res card.

and yes KTD, 350 baht is very good for 5kg over, if you are actually 5kg over ! haha

You can only apply for a Samui Resident Card in March or October. If you join Bangkok Air Flyer Bonus you get 10k extra anyway.

If you read the whole thread you will see that two of us have already indicated that the Residents Card is now available all year round.
