  1. Foreign criminals are very easy to spot. Sadly at the airport and land border crossings even with a passport check they welcome them right in. These three stooges Moe ,Larry and Curly have criminal written all over them.

Confession: I see slimy faces like this all the time, but often think to myself that I'm being too judgemental. I guess I'll give myself a small nod of approval.

  2. Is this a reboot of The Three Stooges ? Moe, Larry, Curly ? Thailand is Heaven on Earth for foreign criminals . The majority can be found in any tourist slum. The government does not need to change the visas. They need to check the criminals better as they arrive at the airport or land border. Thousands are already hiding here.

  3. I think the majority of foreigners 99.999% would say booze , bar girls and over priced crap foreign food. Most travel half way around the world and eat the very same food they left behind. If they are really brave they might try Pad Thai or Fried Rice and again only eating where other foreigners eat with an English menu paying 120 baht or more. Really weird if you ask me. In the sixteen years traveling here i have seen less than a dozen eating in a REAL Thai restaurant. ZERO IMAGINATION ! BORING !!!!!!!

  4. Sorry you don,t seem to get it. Foreigners over staying their visas and foreign criminals living and hiding here are the reason behind the visa changes. Gap year party idiots, neo hippies and sex tourists/alcoholics have been taking advantage of the visas for years. the Thai government finally woke up to the fact that they are causing numerous problems. Thousands of dodgy foreigners will now have to leave. I think its great!!

And the old farts on this forum like to blame overstayers as the reasons why immigration makes it more difficult for them.

  5. Go to Samui or Phuket thousands of people like yourself.

So just got back from Koh Phayam. Mixed feelings about the place in general. The flight situation in Ranong doesn't make it the easiest place to get to. You will be stuck in Ranong on your first and last day there at least if you are traveling from somewhere like Bangkok. You get the speedboat in Ranong and it is quite pleasant, however the port is pretty scummy and stinks basically of raw sewage.

Once you get to Phayam, at least this time of year services are fairly limited. This would be expected but actually for the amount of people around they could do better in this regard. For example the main "bar" right at the port only had luke warm cans of Leo beer. Order a rum and coke and you could be disappointed, although I finally managed to get a Sang Som with coke and ice after they went to go buy coke and ice separately. Bare in mind this is the main tourist bar right at the port and the shop was around 10 meters away.

I used to think Laos was bad in regards to service but this place makes the effort to do less.

I found my best luck was at Oskar's bar which is actually owned by a guy named Rich. You order the day before and they do pretty good food. I had a pretty nice meal of Indian food there complete with homemade nan. The ocean and beaches on Phayam are generally polluted and not so great. I want to say what Phayam lacks in night life it makes up for with something, but the truth is it lacks nightlife and the beaches are nothing special. I asked about activities but there really are none unless you want to go on a live aboard dive boat. I was quoted 6,500 for a snorkeling trip and understand the distances they go for such trips given the price but didn't see the point. At that sort of price you can do it many other places that are better and cheaper.

The nicest stretch of beach I found was on Buffalo bay right in front of a place called The Sun. Really nice restaurant and place to chill the bungalows are nothing special and not on the beach. The staff were very friendly and they procured whiskey, smokes and ice for me even if it took awhile. The service was much better than some foreign owned places that are much closer to all of the conveniences.

The port side basically stinks and the big place Blue Sky there is way over priced. I wanted to like that resort but the service is horrible and the food is basically inedible at any price. If you go any amount of money you bring won't help you buy a better lifestyle, it simply isn't that kind of place. Blue Sky charges $190 a night and I just can't see paying that although I could afford to if I wanted to splurge.

So that leaves me to going back to the place on Buffalo bay and they are located in the only good spot on the beach that I saw. The sand is gentle and the water was sort of clear. They are in a sheltered corner but I saw a lot of garbage and natural debris anywhere away from this place. As a destination I can not recommend it but if you are already in the area I would say it is the best place to go if you are looking for a relaxing time.

The smog from Indonesia didn't help matters I have never seen anything like it outside of Chiang Mai. I spent 4 days but would have been happy to leave after 2 or 3. There is no party vibe and conversely the beaches are littered with garbage. They are basically mud flats if you stay on the Ranong side of the island.

I wouldn't rate it as good value for money although it is still cheap and if you are passing nearby anyway it is worth a visit. Phuket visa hoppers might find it worthwhile. Cashews are very cheap but after a few days you might get tired of them. Bring everything you think you might need because there is a very limited selection of anything to buy. I brought a box of wine and found that was a worthwhile thing to bring. The best part about the island is the locals are very friendly.

That is my take on Koh Phayam. Anybody that doesn't share my views can feel free to write their own trip report. Also just for Phuketrichard I refrained from smoking in the room.

  6. I agree they are everywhere in plain sight. Not that hard to spot. On their forehead in big red letters FOREIGN CRIMINAL !

Thailand is a big haven for criminals of all sorts color and creed, if you grab Thailand and shake her,

you be amazed how many crocks will fall out, people that you didn't thing that they were criminals

and fugitive from justice, it can be your friend from the bar or pub, next door neighbor or even your

brother in law.. such is the magnitude of the throve of criminals hiding in Thailand and most

    in plain sight....

  7. The mods warned me i can,t say anything negative. So i will say this. I think she is lovely and i hope she pulls this stunt more often. It will improve tourism for foreigners in the Nana plaza area. It seems the new fade in Southeast is riding on a bike naked. It will teach others that this behavior is tolerated with a 500 baht fine and no jail time. Hopefully more foreign women will provide the Thai and foreign men with this form of entertainment in the future.

  8. Thailand is heaven on earth for foreign criminals. They are in every tourist slum. The majority are Euros.

    9,000!!!

    Jesus.

One has to ask how 9,000 were allowed to enter illegally in the first place.

Clearly Immigration has no idea what the hell is going on.

Most of these cases involve regional offenders, i.e. from Burma and Cambodia. They came across a porous border undetected, or came on legit visas for work or visits and just stay. In many cases, the entry was illegal because entry was gained by way of a visitor visa when the intent was to work. This is the famous Pattaya/Bangkok westerner boiler room worker method. The west literally has millions of bogus residents who have over stayed their student, or visitor or work visas. It is too expensive and difficult to round all these people up.

Under the Immigration Act people with criminal records are forbidden entry to Thailand. However, short of being a well known criminal or on an international watch list, the ban is unenforceable. The Thai immigration department does not have real time access to other countries criminal records. It's not like the EU or the Canada/US border where a border agents can access security information. Unless the Thais are informed that someone is a fugitive or a felon, the Thais do not know.

  9. Your story seems to change often. Sorry but this whole situation sounds fishy. You could not pay me enough to live or even visit any of those islands. If your story is true it is still a VERY BAD IDEA . So you plan to help her in her shop also ? Do you have a work visa. ? Are you willing to pay off the local mafia often? Are you willing to risk your savings and your life for this fantasy ?

Met on the beach ? What bar did she work in before? You can speak Thai but you can barely speak English Yea she got angry because she knew that you were starting to wake up from your fantasy a tiny bit . But once she had her top off you were back in La la land. For example where i live i have seen a woman with a shop for years. Every year she has a new foreign sucker. Seen at least five already. I am sure she is heading back to Pattaya to look for number six. Perhaps you would like to be her next victim. WAKE UP!

Yeah I am here, read all the answers and here is my :
My girlfriend has already a shop in phi phi more than 1 year.
I met her there at the beach.
I know to speak thai language enough to understand and make myself understood by others.
I asked her about the problems you mentioned and she first got angry and she said that she doesnt know anything about this, and that there are many nepals that own shops and etc.

So now I think about this method:
Going to visit her for 2 weeks and learn the field,
If it will look like we cannot do it (of course I will Ask the other not locals people about everything, even about the payment to the police as she said) then we dont, and if it looks like we can so we will.

    What you think?
