Good info. Thanks . this is probably off-topic, but I will try anyway. Wife and I are in our late 70's. We are non-residents for tax purposes and file the necessary forms.. We get quite a few messages from Revenue Canada, along these lines: (quote) Dear Paddy O' Furniture: The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) sent you new mail online called: Notice of Assessment letter/NR5 etc.
If you have My Account, sign in and click on "Mail" to read your mail.
If you signed up to receive mail online but don't have My Account, go to the CRA web page to register.I have forgotten if we have My Accounts. The CRA says that we can register. But, we need to do a 2 level verification. That requires a text message. But, they say that they do not issue text messages to mobiles outside of North America. What should we do? I am thinking of writing a hard copy letter asking them to change our wish, from online to receiving hard copy notices and letters by mail. This is a bit stressful, at times. e.g. we filed our NR5 forms on timerecently. But now we each have a letter referring to the NR5 - and we do not know what they are asking for. thanks in advance.
Paddy,
If you scroll down a bit on the CRA website you will find they offer three different options for signing in to your account. Try option one the sign-in partners and get into your CRA account via your bank.

Agree with both of you but don't think you're going far enough. I do (did pre covid) about five to six months in Thai and visit other countries from there. Then about two months wandering through Southern Frances vinyards (out by the start of the summer holidays). Finally to Canada for an enjoyment of the approximately 4 snow free months they have. (struth!)
Rinse - Repeat.
It has been a great retirement so far but the pandemic and the new restrictions have had me hunkered down in a cave for the last year. This hopefully is the time to resume my slow drift around the planet. Hope to be in LOS next week.

Not a farce. But rather sheer panic. Expats are leaving in droves and tourists are not coming. Income is dropping, unemployment is rising, so are suicides. The economy is in the toilet. Desperation is setting in. The goons are grasping for straws after sabotaging a most vital industry.
But the baht keeps getting stronger

Dear God, I hope not. You ever seen the size of the 40-50 year old Russian women wallowing on the beach waiting for the next tide to float them ?
Yeah, I've noticed them. Reminds me of the southern pod of Orca on a seal hunt.
The REALLY good news was that those young incredibly fit young women had managed to mostly put on a bathing suit that showcased every tattoo on her body no matter where they were placed.
The BAD news was that the grandmother that came with her to Phuket was wearing an identical bathing suit.

Has anybody checked to see when they'll be finished unloading that train???

Just remember that all this is brought to you by the same people that will confiscate a deck of cards and a crib board - and fine you for having them

Thai trade surplus and a hawkish central bank (according to what I've read).
Out of curiosity by "trade surplus" do you mean that point in time between the submarines and the attack aircraft where the military junta sold large portions of the stored rice reserves to foreign countries rather than feed their own people???
KB, I'm not poking at you, it's just that the inequities sometimes just can't be ignored.

The condo managers and actual owners.
Yes !!!. Distributed services and load bearing may be handled quite differently in commercial high rise vs residential high rise. The building owners get the say in who gets to rip which walls out of their building.

Get your friend to send you a copy of the house registration in Thai (of course) and add that to the invitation when you upload.

Bite the bullet and buy a ticket to Singapore. There are several good makers of bespoke shoes there. Buy yourself a couple of pairs. They will last for years and when repairs are needed, just post the shoes to them.
Problem solved for this lifetime.
It isn't that they are too expensive - - It IS that you are worth it

From the price I'd say Shopping on the Champs-Elysees'.
Why is this newsworthy?? Just another smuggler caught bringing in luxury goods illegally. Every country on this planet has some law regulating the flow of goods across its borders..
Canadians are allowed to bring back about $800.00 duty free after 72 hours outside of the country. Anything above is taxed.

That means that you need to have proof of owning 1 million baht before even applying for a non O-A ?
It is clear that they do not want poor people come here .
Before the excuse for that amount was unpaid hospital bills left by foreigners ... but now the obligatory insurance covers this .
They seem to be very ingenious in finding solutions to prevent people from visiting Thailand .
A million baht isn't that much. It's about 40,000 Canadian. When I was doing the NON OA I had to provide bank statements from one of my accounts in Canada. It only had to be transferred in if you went forward with the second year of the program, then they wanted some in Thailand. I never had to transfer the money in the first year. That I wouldn't do. I did get very tired of getting a medical certificate saying I wasn't suffering from the third stage of syphilis. ????

What a load of toss, politicians and ethics, yeah right...
Yeah, that thought crossed my mind also. I don't think the holdup has anything to do with ethics. I suspect that the reason witnesses have not been asked to come forward is that no one in parliament will bar fine them out.
I could be quite embarrassing if some of the witnesses actually recognised and found they were on a first name basis with some honorable members of parliament.
Perhaps a flight of fancy but I can just imagine "HI POOPSIE" ringing across the hallowed halls of justice.

Crikey, I think the dam baht is up about 8% over the Canadian dollar in the last month. David555, I'm glad it's good news for someone.
It's surely made life more difficult over here.

obviously I'm missing something here. Pfizer does not charge any import duties. Pfizer does not have any rights of taxation in Thailand or any country for that matter. The price for the vaccine is set by the Thai legal entity that purchased the vaccine under government purview.
None of these monies other than the original contract price goes to Pfizer and thus does not affect its' stock price.
Now if you were talking about some unknown and unnamed Government officials that inserted themselves into the supply chain for their modest surcharge of 30% to 40% the story might vary somewhat.
Pfizer is only guilty of living up to its' contract at an agreed upon price.

Thailand is not a leader in this movement.
Look at what Singapore is doing and what is starting to happen in Europe. No poke - No play - You pay
Singapore has decided not to subsidise covid related medical treatment for non vaccinated people.

No. I'm saying I do/did have an approval and a Q code was sent to me.
These question which indicate that they may have lost or mislaid my information possibly brings that approval into question.
I am imperfectly pleased

Also got this message. Sent a copy to the Consulate asking (in a polite - ish way) <What The Frog?>. Asked them to let me know if I still have an approved Thailand Pass or not.
I'm just a wee bit fashed as I have/had?? an approved status and have my Q code. Don't know what I have now.

How can these unelected military types still walk?? They keep shooting themselves in the foot.
I thought that the time to start large government subsidized projects was exactly at times like this. It could provide thousands of good paying jobs to Thai workers. Then the country has some excellent infrastructure built and ready by the time the increased tourism requires it. It needs planning.
I can't say .......... damm I hate them. What country are they working for. It sure as hell isn't Thailand?

Haven't really seen any relief very recently. A few months back the CAD/BHT pair went from 25 to 27 baht per dollar but the rate has restabilized in the low 25's since. Don't know how the other pairs have fared.
