  1. Despite these various political squabbles, which really don't affect regular people going about their lives, I can attest that, no matter what, Thailand is still an exponentially better place to live than the US, which is now under the control of a psycho felon, all of congress, and all of the supreme court, and they are doing serious damage to the US democracy and to the world economy. Trump was no doubt at least partly motivated in the Iran bombing by wanting to distract people away from confronting his systematic dismantling of democracy. Now he can play the hero, and people  will fall for it. As to what I think, it's true that Iran's nuclear program posed enough of an immediate threat that the bombing was necessary to dismantle that threat, and the rest of the threat to its neighbors with its military. But I don't give it much thought as I'm happy to live in Thailand 8000 miles from US mayhem

Would be nice to know how the scam worked so everyone could avoid it.

Re read the story. You definitely missed that part. But there are easy ways to avoid these scams. NEVER, but NEVER hand your money over to any individual, or "brokerage" whose reputation you can't check on, or respond to unknown phone numbers or websites. Also, there's a wealth of info online about hoe to avoid scams, as well as some pretty funny youtube channels of scammers being baited and exposed and even arrested due to the work of hackers who hack into scammer computers and reverse the connection.

  3. It's too bad she didn't do her homework on scams and on good honest and safe  investments. Certain rules apply. NEVER entrust your funds to another party. Do business either directly with the fund, or with a reputable and licensed broker. I did my research and picked a top rated fund whom I deal with directly, the company was #1 and #2 in its ratings. It's the Vanguard High Yield Index fund and has generated a return of over $100,000 on my initial investment of $150,000 in 2017. It pays a quarterly dividend of about $1100.00

  4. These individuals with violent tendencies can usually be identified before the relationships get off the ground. There are always telltale signs, it's so sad that so many women don't figure it out out until it's too late. Very likely that his anger and violence issues led to her wanting to break up with the guy. So heartbreaking, so much suffering inflicted to the friends and family of the deceased. Rest in Peace.

  5. It's like cutting off one head and two more grow. The best thing is to recognize the commonality in all of these. Look for the telltale signs. In the US right now you get calls from "medicare" and a bot voice, then you get switched to someone with an Indian accent. I usually say "so when did medicare move its offices to India" or "how's the weather in India" then maybe something about them being morons or maybe going to hell when they die or bringing shame to your country and its people. Shoping is safe as long as you're observant. It's very unlikely that you'll run into any identity theft as long as you've been careful with your information and never give it to anyone but an established merchant. You needn't inconvenience yourself out of paranoia. I've never ever been the victim of a scam in my entire life, and in fact I turned tables on one scammer by sending her a fake check leading her to run around all over Bangkok to try to cash it. Just learn the patternes and be deligient is all you need to do. There's plenty of information online about how to avoid scams, such as never clicking on a link sent to you by an unknown source, and also never responding to any message that you don't already know the sender.

I'm sorry but this wording makes it seem so nefarious. He was in Thailand and was using a dating app to find women. How is this targeting? . Ultimately, he overstayed his visa and got caught.

He is in Thailand so of course he would be seeking Thai woman using the dating app. He found a GF and moved in with her then overstayed his visa. I do not say the OP is wrong. Perhaps I misunderstand how it is worded.

We can't expect the best choice of words from these news sources. They choose drama over accuracy.

You'd think this was already the case but TIT. From a customer's perspective, the ride hailing apps are not as reliable in Thailand as other countries. For example, I've had several rides accepted by a driver, only to then realize he's not 10 minutes away as indicated, he's 30 minutes away. Oh, and of course once the driver (far away) has accepted, the customer can't cancel the ride. Same goes for food deliveries where 20 minutes can turn into an hour.

With Bolt you can cancel the ride even up to the time he arrives. I've had drivers arrive on the wrong side of a highway and refuse to U-turn. I not only cancelled, but was able to lodge a complaint against the driver.

  8. It would be helpful if they did their homework and disclosed whether this is a new strain and what it's called, and if there has been a vax developed specifically for the new strain if it is in fact a new strain. Also, we should be informed as to how many of these people were previously vaxxed, as well as telling us whether our own previous vax is good for the new strain (most probably yes)
