British and Dutch men arrested in Bangkok for drug trafficking
Jonathan Swift replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
In the majority of cases it does not. Cannabis use exists side by side with other drugs, but in most cases the one doesn't cause the other. Correlation is not the same as causation. This has been studied ad infinitum. For people with inherent addictive personalities it doesn't matter what they start with, they're likely to get involved with most anything anyway. 90% of cannabis users use it the same way as a few drinks or beers. They are not addicts. -
British and Dutch men arrested in Bangkok for drug trafficking

They were talking about two different things. One was the two men, the other was about larger groups of smugglers. Yes, these stories are not the best examples of English literature. -
Filipina's Viral Video Criticising Thai Women Sparks Backlash
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Like the balot, and century egg. But I agree with you. She's right about a relatively small demographic of Thai women, mostly the bar girls, And a few from the mainstream, but when you're out in the general public the percentage of them is low. -

Yes, you're not all like that. But somehow there are a lot of them in the more visible places -
It's a medical term. I assume you've never been to medical school. There is a whole spectrum of injuries that fall in that category, such as a ruptured aneurism, stroke, subdural hematoma etc. Those can easily kill. So there is indeed such thing as a minor symptomless brain bleed. Calling it a minor brain bleed does not mean it isn't serious, it only means that it is not life threatening.

KO tragedy: British boxing hopeful’s final round in Pattaya hotel
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Darwin doesn't cover young people simply making foolish mistakes. Drugs are a plague, and the temptation can be very strong to vulnerable people. There's the near universal "party" mindset that exists in every country and not just Thailand, and that includes the fentanyl plague. People die of it every day in the US. Preaching judgmentally comes from people who don't understand the nature of the problem. It's not a stupidity problem, it's a human problem. How many people do you think would stop using if you stood on a street corner telling people to "avoid putting stuff up your nose"? So who are you talking to here? What "folks"? My brother died of an OD at age 42 and I can tell you most certainly that he wasn't a stupid person. He had emotional problems that he couldn't deal with. -

That would be me. I usually top out at around 700 baht for perfectly comfortable guest houses. All the more money left for better things. -
KO tragedy: British boxing hopeful’s final round in Pattaya hotel

Well said sir. This is a tragedy and should be regarded as such. For all of your stated reasons, you can't trust the accuracy of stories like this. After all, they misidentified the deceased right out of the starting gate. There is a race to get a story out that inherently compromises factual accuracy. As to this publication, the writing is often cartoonish and amateurish, written at a high school level. So expectations should not be high. Cheers. -

Thank you for that. -
There are bullets flying in every country, including yours. In every neighborhood, in every city. In the west it's 10 times as bad. The very worst is the US, where I'm from. My house is in a neighborhood that's very nice most of the time, but there have been shootings and murders right near me. 2-3 houses away from mine. So don't be a hypocrite. It isn't funny, even when you're being sarcastic. People are suffering no matter where it is.

You're so jealous it's making you insane. Why so unhappy? It's not a matter of finding women his age, it's a matter of he probably just doesn't like western women and their catalogs of neuroses and dysfunctions. I can relate. He's free to happily live his life and no doubt doesn't care what you think. Wonder what your problem actually is, that you have to stick your nose into someone else's business and personal choices and project imaginary value judgments? That's shifts the question of perversion onto you. Project much?

Pakistani Gang Arrested in Pattaya for Scamming Indian Tourists
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Don't know where most of you are from, but John Travolta in an old sitcom used to say "up your nose with a rubber hose" so that's the first thing I thought of. So I'd say it's a tie. Cheers. -

Foreigner Wrecks Chiang Mai Stall After Smoking Ban Warning
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Another drunken self centered cigarette pig. No one has a "right" to smoke. People have a right to breathe clean air, especially where people eat and food is served. Foreigners have an obligation to respect the people who live here. I've run into the same attitude at hotels, someone coming over and sitting next to me and lighting up, smoke blowing in my face, with no regard for me whatsoever. Under Thai law it's illegal to smoke within 10 meters of a restaurant or food booth. Smɑck this guy upside the heɑd and shove a lit cigarette up his bυm. -
Foreign 'Mafia' Harass Tourists in Pattaya, Taunt Local Police
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
If these are organized extortionists they may have paid off the police, hence, no fear of them. But I think it's more likely a bluff, part of the intimidation "act". -

In what world? Where exactly do you live? In a convent? Try looking around. This is the REAL world, out here. Doesn't sound like you're living in it. What exactly is your idea of self defense? The guy was threatening and extorting people. That's all you need. Ever hear the quote "talk softly but carry a big stick"? You don't have to actually beat the guy, but if he stands there threatening and being aggressive then he needs a beating. Chances are if you pull out a bat the coward will run home to mama crying. I can tell you that if he threatened me I wouldn't hesitate to crack a chair over his head if need be. But I'll bet a good slap upside the head. would send him running. No warning, just a slap hard enough to knock him over and humiliate him in front of his victims. These people deserve no less. It would all be on video, so self defense. -
Expats in Thailand urged not to worry about negative income tax
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You're right about needing a multi faceted approach to dealing with the poor and unemployed. The same problem is the same in the US and elsewhere. Your statements about welfare are not what invariably actually happens in the real (western) world. Have you ever been on welfare? I have, in the US. Nobody in those lines wanted to be there, they would gladly accept any decent job. And they often did eventually. I couldn't wait to get off. The amount of actual welfare cheating (in western countries) is actually so relatively small that it really has little effect, and the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I make $1625 a month on disability and still get $170.00 in food assistance in the US, no benefits here other than my $1624. However, corruption in Thailand is a different story, and you may be right about this program's implementation here. However, if one weighs the benefits to persons in dire need against the cons, it may be worth a shot. I say give it a try and watch closely to see how it pans out. Some of this is fact, and some is just my opinion.
