Prepaid Visa card?
Don Chance replied to Don Chance's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
How about mastercard with Bangkok Bank? Is it easy to get? I need a solution because my prepaid card has expired and they won't send a replacement to Thailand. So i am bit worried about something going wrong and not having a back up. I have 2 atm cards and $400 in amex checks. A few Ether. I guess i could transfer funds from my account to a local bank if need be? I think i better buy about another $1000 in TC's. Is the best solution. -
Has anyone used this card from SCB ? What i am wondering is can it be used internationally and in case of emergency get cash from a local bank or get a replacement card? I have contact them via email but haven't heard back. The T&C does not say.

That just proves my point. Asian do not use the sprayer like a power washer.

Kanchanaburi - River Khae for 3 or 4 nights
Don Chance replied to grain's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Kanchanaburi used to be nice, now it is just dismal tourist trap. I would avoid it at all costs. -
I always thought there was no tipping in Asia. The staff are starting to give me the Evil eye, i think they are pushing for a tip. They hardly clean in this old place, sure it is cheap but it has a great view. The staff act really difficult if i ask them to do anything for me. I get it they don't get paid much, but is that my fault?

That's the hand you eat isn't it?

I don't know about Thailand but i know in subcontinent it is not used like this. People wet their left hand with soap and water and wash themselves. I don't see this pressure washer as a good idea.

Smoking marijuana regularly changes the way you speak!
Don Chance replied to Don Chance's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
The effect on your voice is only a small part. The real problem is how it makes people more anxious, stressed out and even causes depression. Can trigger schizophrenia in teens. This is why when a chronic smoker quiets they rarely start again, unlike say alcohol. Because they realize they are more relaxed when they don't smoke it as to when they smoked 1-2 grams a day! -

The inevitable .... Thai Evil Eye!
Don Chance replied to Don Chance's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You can see a divergence of opinions here and i agree with @BangkokReady :people who haven't experienced the evil eye in Thailand just haven't traveled enough. These are regional differences too, th south being worse. Thai's have a common culture, language and traditions but have very different castes being a Buddhist country, like other countries such as India. Some people are raise with the religious tradition, Brahmin, others are in the military tradition Kshatriya They tend to be narcissistic, machiavellian and these are the people who will give you the evil eye. It is abusive and they are disregarding the farang (who has no caste btw.) Without talking to them. It is a form of bullying. If you don't think Thailand is filled with psychopaths and narcissistic, then just read the news. No amount of police and cctv's, draconian courts or prison will deter them either. -

Water purification machines, do you trust them?

I got the 20 L clear blue water tank. It was 50 baht for the bottle and 50 for the water. It is not clear if he will refund the 50 when i leave and return the bottle. My arms really are sore now carrying the thing all the way home . Worst part is that the first gulp tasted like plastic. That clear blue is not food grade. I had a bad experience with these refillable jugs in India because people just use them for other things like transporting diesel fuel and then return them. Better stick with 7-11 or get a filter system. -
I heard they are 40% faulty with bacteria in an old news article. I notice that the tap water smells a bit like chlorine here. So i am thinking that the water machine might be ok? The one i see on the corner looks rather old, it is from of laundry coin mart that looks really old too, complete with the old lady who runs it. Should i take a chance? I need about 6 liters a day.

You've been in Thailand, in a town or area for a while, you know a few people, guesthouse owners, staff, bar restaurants owners workers etc. Then it happens. You get that look, that angry, glare of disapproval. You think, hmm, they are probably in a bad mood, nothing to do with me. Then you see them again and the same disgruntled look directed at you. Hmm, that's strange. Then again later, now it is for sure. It's the evil eye! You are a bad-object! A bad farang! What have i done you wonder? So how do you handle the situation? 1) Ignore it. Wait for the whip to come down. 2) Go through in your head the many things that have happen and encounters you've may have had with the person. 3) Confront them. Hey what is the matter with you? Of course they will not speak a word of English at this point. 4) Give them the stink eye back! 5) Leave town.

I took a mini bus from Kampot to Koh Kong today. What was upsetting was this women who was completely unconscious being taken care of by her husband. When i first got into the van i thought maybe she is sleeping or bit sick but then after a while as we drove on, i realize she was completely out cold, unconscious. The drive was long and rough, the road was unpaved and dusty. At one point we stopped for a break, i was relieved to see she was still breathing. I tried to ask what was wrong but nobody spoke English. The other foreigners on the bus, seemed to care less. They just shrugged. Her poor husband kept trying to proper her up. Why take her so far, instead of to a local hospital. What do you think was wrong with her? Is it illegal to transport someone like that? I was thinking of flagging a police man. It is depressing image in my head. Cambodia is sad country, seem to be run by children.
